Optional Side-poll for Tag Teams?

This is Grimmas's deal, so I'll leave this entirely up to him. But watching as many matches of The Funks recently, I've been thinking that they'd surely have to be "up there" on any GOAT tag poll that was done.

 

I was wondering if (just for interest's sake), people could have the option of submiting a smaller, maybe Top 20, tagteams poll to Mookie alongside their ballot. Since projects on this scale are done so rarely, I think it's a nice opportunity to create a tag list. Not nomination threads for each team, etc., since guys are covered comprehensively anyway, but it could be a little side consideration.

If people are up for it, I don't see a problem with adding in a 25 list for tag teams with your ballot. I can see one big thread to talk tag teams or something.

My only concern in this is that it might make us downplay individual wrestlers who were consistently great in tag teams.

It might also enhance the idea that some wrestlers were more versatile than others because they could perform well in both settings, which might make the difference in how you rank folks.

My thought is that, in this crowd, no one is going to rank Bobby Eaton, Ricky Morton, Terry Funk, or Arn Anderson lower because they are also on their tag list. Also, it might say something, for example, if Funk finishes top 5 overall and top 5 in tags (which has a very realistic chance of happening).

 

It also might give guys who have very little hope of making the overall list (e.g. The Steiners) a bone. I nominated Tommy Rogers, for example, and while I don't see him having much of a shot at the top 100, The Fantastics might have a shot at the tag top 20.

 

I can understand not wanting to dillute it too though.

And in the case of trios, would they be eligible, and if so as a three man unit or as two of the three as a tag team (ex. Los Brazos or Brazo de Oro & Plata)?

Such a great question. My initial thought is a trios from Mexico or Freebirds would count, but what about The Shield?

 

The Shield as a trios might get consideration, while Rollins/Reigns would not. Maybe sticking to two, would be better?

 

Any thoughts?

Keep it at 2 wrestlers per team. More than that and it is a stable.

I really disagree with Will, I think trios teams should count, especially because tag team wrestling isn't really a thing in Mexico, so if you are excluding trios you aren't going to have Missionaires De La Muerte or the Brazos or Los Buccanaros

6 man tag teams should absolutely be included. There is no fathomable reason why they shouldn't. Six man tag wrestling is tag wrestling.

It would probably end up being mostly lucha though. Maybe some lucharesu with inclusions like The Shield and Freebirds. Guess where the majority of the votes would go. It's really not big outside of Mexico to have long running six man tag teams.

So if there is a separate section for 3-man teams, it would be best to keep it to lucha so that the sheer volume of votes wouldn't put Freebirds and the Shield at 1/2 while lucha trios were delegated lower.

I'm not even going to attempt Tag Teams. I'll have enough on my plate and enough to watch when it comes to the Greatest Wrestler, without getting side tracked along the way.

I think there's going to be a lot of cross-referencing as a lot of GOAT contenders did a lot of tag wrestling as well. Be it Terry Funk with Gordy, Flair with any Horseman, Lawler and Dundee, the AJPW tags, etc.
