Wrestling Fan New Years Resolutions For 2015

Recommended Posts

Watch and review as much pro wrestling as possible.

1) Stop subscribing to F4W - everything worth reading is copy and pasted over the internet anyway, you are really only paying for THE BOARD, which is just awful.

Gave up the F4W subscription last fall when I had to cut costs to start saving some cash. Don't really miss it at all.

1. Watch more lucha. I really loved my introduction to lucha on the 80s set but it's really hard for me to just watch random matches on youtube and not full shows in context. I'll just have to get over that so I can see more Satanico, Brazo de Plata, Santo and all the rest from the 80s & 90s.

2. Get back to watching Southeastern/Continental. Did a lot of digging to find pretty much everything that's out there and then got burnt out from trying to organize 100+ discs and put everything in order. Jimmy Golden in 1981 is so good it'd probably even make El-P change his mind.

What was I trying to do last year before I got sick?

-Actually start writing about the professional wrestling on a regular basis again.
More specifically, seriously digging into the stack of 80's Joshi I've left laying for over three years. And once that operation is running smoothly, maybe the return of SLL's All-Request Friday Nights on Segunda Caida.

Yeah...that. Of course, the 80's Joshi set has since been cancelled, but we have enough really good footage that I'd like to do something with it, especially since it might still come in handy for the GOAT project.

Hey, fun fact, my original comeback project was going to be centered around the massive improvement of Seth Rollins. Boy, did I dodge a bullet on that one.

That's disappointing since that was likely the only way I was ever really going to delve into Joshi.

From last year:

I want to stay more on top of the nominated matches on WKO. It's been rough trying to cram in a year's worth of stuff into a quarter of the year. Make sure I continue on with the Wrestler Snapshot and focus on some guys I am less aware of. I'm currently rewatching all of the Royal Rumbles and doing a top 25 matches article. I want to continue that with other shows like the Clash of the Champions. Finish the lucha set, should be number one! I kind of want to rewatch the WWF in the 90's, at least everything of importance. This may be the one I don't do. Finally, more lucha.

For WKO matches stayed ontop of for first 3/4 of year, not too shabby. Wrestler Snapshots continued and I started a podcast, so that worked out well. Did the Rumble article and the only other one I did was top 25 of first half of the year. The lucha set still didn't get finished :(

So, for 2015. I HAVE to finish the lucha set. Then any other sets that come out. Continue with the 97 yearbook and as much GWE viewing as possible. Current product (outside of ppvs, NXT and highly touted matches) are being ignored for the GWE project.

Just watch more wrestling, on a week to week basis, than I have done for a while. This recent year, I just completely burned out on a lot of stuff and I'm only now starting to stir back into life. Will pick up as many yearbooks as money allows and try to follow every company on a regular basis. I'm setting myself a challenge to catch up with Lucha Underground by the end of the week to set myself off on a good foot.

So, let's see.

1. Maintain the schedule I've set up for myself when it comes to Segunda Caida and WTBBP. I don't know if I'll be able to, especially with SC, but I'd like to. 3 lucha matches a week and one essay for each WCW PPV. For SC, I'm going to do a focus on Hechicero and then probably one on Virus. I'll also keep looking at Garza as my lens for 2010 (I'm almost to the full on rudo turn and the Invasores). My guess is that I do Rush vs Terrible later on in the year and the build to some other Apuestas match (Maybe Mistico vs Casas?). I'm always open to suggestions for longer form projects when it comes to what I'm doing on SC.

2. Watch more of the following wrestlers specifically: Baba, Liger, Breaks, Finlay, Judy Martin, El Dandy. As well as IWRG in general.

3. Finish watching the Sid in Memphis stuff on youtube (I know, not a big commitment but I'm only on #3).

4. I'm torn on the Portland set. It'd be a lot of dipping back in to things I'd watched in the last couple of years and seeing other things out of context when I'd much rather see them in context. On the other hand, I feel like I need to be part of that discussion since I devoted so much time to it. I don't know. I'm much more eager to jump into the PR set to be honest. I would like to continue on Portland the all-inclusive way I was watching it though.

5. See the first live wrestling I've seen in over 10 years. (I'm taking an overnight trip to Philly to see the Rumble with a college friend).

6. Maybe guest on a podcast? I don't know.

7. There's a broader introduction-to-lucha project that I want to tackle too, preferably with a few other people, that looks at getting people acclimated by stressing the similarities to what they're used to instead of highlighting the differences, which is how people usually go at it.

I think my 2015 will be very similar to my 2014. I was happy with 2014. I watched quite a bit and I'm continuing to consume more while working on my BWE list. I'll do the same in 2015 I imagine. As long as I have internet access & WWE Network, I'm pretty good. I'll watch the NJPW iPPVs and maybe sometime I'll try out the new AJPW Network. Not sure on that one yet.

Definitely not setting myself up to break any promises but my buddy John has mentioned hitting some Indy shows as well.

Happy New Years!

- Ill be realistic and say 12 WTBBP episodes

- FInish the lucha set

- Finish the 1993 footage watching

- Finish the 1999 footage watching

- Finish the 1996 footage watching

- Write some articles on full length stuff and contributing including the lucha thing Matt mentioned above

- At least keep a working knowledge of the highly hyped stuff in 2015.

I felt like a curmudgeon in 2014 as while a lot matches were good in 2014, only Atlantis vs. Ultimo reached ****3/4 for me on a ranking sense which shows overall the tip top quality in the matches were lagging for me. I thought the year was littered with a ton of ***1/2 stuff which is fun to watch but much like 1991 as a year, it doesn't really resonate when looking at entire years as a whole. Also, WWE has completely burned me out and I have very little interest in the product currently.

I need to expand my horizons a little bit more. Since NJPW world has become available I've dived head in. I only have a couple shows left to be up to date on all their shows of 2014. So I want to get through 2010 and follow the current product .

I want to support the local Indy scene in Austin. I made 2 Inspire Shows in 2014, and 0 ACW shows. I want to make 4 Inspire and at least 1 ACW show. ROH runs San Antonio at least once or twice a year. I want to hit one of them up too.

I want to get behind a current Lucha fed that streams online. I've cut the cord and just watch streaming video on my tv. Any suggestions would be helpful . I want to watch complete shows.

Of course I'll continue to watch my passion which is 70's and 80's wrestling.

Watching wrestling, specifically,

--Stay on top of my YouTube and DailyMotion playlists. Last year I let them get out of control, and I want to make sure that I never let them get over more than 50 videos each this year.

--Finish my Thatcher project. I've watched pretty much everything I can find, but I know there are still a few out there that did make tape/internet that I need to find.

--Keep up with my Network PPV rewatch project. I'm up to 2003, so I'm hoping I can finish that by the end of the year.

--Start Raw, Nitro, and Clash rewatch projects.

--Get NJ World, and start working through their library.

--Catch back up on NXT.

--Start my PWG project, and now that I have every show from 2003-2008 I can.

--Start my CZW, SHIMMER, and RoH projects, but these are of a lower priority.

--Watch the Volk Han set I have, finish the 80s Lucha set, and get a few more sets from Goodhelmet, as well as dive into the Yearbooks.

I will accomplish maybe 20% of this, but it's all in service of the GWE, so it's all good on my end.

-I need to go to more local indie lucha libre events around South Texas.

-Watch more stuff, from everywhere.

-Read more stuff.

-Hopefully if I can do the first three, write more stuff.

-See if I can find any old Mexican newspapers that covered lucha libre from decades ago, and translate into English if I find something interesting.

-For fun, maybe interview some old legendary luchador and ask PWO if they have any questions.

For 2015:

- Start going to local Indy feds again. Not weekly, but at least once every few months. It's a lot of fun.

- Maybe start a blog. This is up in the air, but I'm considering it.

- Carve out some time weekly to watch whatever. I'm going to see most Raws, watch all the WWE PPVs, and seek out the top matches from everywhere. I do that every year. This year I want to just be able to make some time for random viewing. Weekly's more realistic than daily. I'm trying to finish school and work towards starting a career and making a living. Daily wrestling viewing is almost impossible these days.

- Well, I launched my first solo blog two weeks ago, and so far it has received a lot of positive feedback, so I'd like that to continue.

- Watch as much 2015 stuff as I can, I want to be on top of it this year.

- Would love to be on some type of podcast, rather it be invited onto one or I decide to host one myself.

- Write more "essay" type stuff, people loved the one I did on Suzuki a few days ago.

- Get some collaborations going.

- Actually become a trusted source around here (Not saying that I'm not per say, just no one really knows me outside of Twitter)

That looks to be about it, I'm excited to see where I am a year from now or something, but until then we can only wait and see.
