shoe Posted September 8, 2016 Report Posted September 8, 2016 Per Collider news a director has been named. It's the person who did Punisher War Zone. So the movie is a go.
Phil Schneider Posted September 8, 2016 Report Posted September 8, 2016 Lexi Alexander? That is super weird, she is a pretty awesome gonzo action director (Punisher War Zone is a dope B action movie) but a pretty weird choice for something like this. It would be like putting John Woo or Gaereth Evans in charge.
shoe Posted September 8, 2016 Author Report Posted September 8, 2016 Yep. They have a final script ready to go.
El-P Posted September 8, 2016 Report Posted September 8, 2016 Hollywood is gonna make a movie about Chris Benoit ? Holy shit, and people "in da business" didn't like The Wrestler... This is gonna be fascinating on so many levels.
flyonthewall2983 Posted September 9, 2016 Report Posted September 9, 2016 "Based on" could mean something different from a straight bio-pic.
sek69 Posted September 9, 2016 Report Posted September 9, 2016 "Based on" could mean something different from a straight bio-pic. That plus the choice of director has all the hallmarks of being a disaster.
Al Posted September 9, 2016 Report Posted September 9, 2016 Like most stories of its type, this is something I have no desire to relive. Even if it's done well.
sek69 Posted September 9, 2016 Report Posted September 9, 2016 There's a way it could be done that would be a compelling movie if done right, but I have less than zero faith anyone in Hollywood would do it correctly.
The Chief Posted September 9, 2016 Report Posted September 9, 2016 I feel like this has been in development for ages, wasn't Liev Schreiber attached to the project at one point?
Jmare007 Posted September 9, 2016 Report Posted September 9, 2016 So it's gonna be a B movie based on his life?
flyonthewall2983 Posted September 9, 2016 Report Posted September 9, 2016 I've heard it's based on the book Ring of Hell
JRH Posted September 9, 2016 Report Posted September 9, 2016 This has the potential to be the worst "bio-pic" since Wired.
El-P Posted September 9, 2016 Report Posted September 9, 2016 Well, seems like it's already beginning. There's nothing more than a director name and people are already hating on it, ah ah. Well, I for one am quite curious about it.
Gutenberger Posted September 9, 2016 Report Posted September 9, 2016 Although I'm quite interested in seeing how it will be done, the idea of actually watching the movies makes my stomach hurt. I have NO desire whatsoever in doing this.
Log Posted September 9, 2016 Report Posted September 9, 2016 I want this to be on Lifetime with Shannon Doherty as Nancy.
greenmistguy90 Posted September 9, 2016 Report Posted September 9, 2016 I've heard it's based on the book Ring of Hell Oh shoot .
DMJ Posted September 10, 2016 Report Posted September 10, 2016 sounds horrendous. I think there is a "right way" to attempt this, but it would be somewhat experimental, maybe Gus Van Sant-ish/early Linklater for it to work? Like, have it really just stick to the last 3 days, with flashback but not overemphasize on the "WWEness" of his career. Like, really boil it down to the very core of a guy with post-concussion issues causing dementia and homicidal urges, not anything close to a typical biopic. Edit - also, no real names. Inspired by true events but abstract enough to not bother attempting to tell a factual story. I guess the movie I'm thinking of is "let's talk about Kevin" (or whatever it was called). Bummer of a movie but really, really gripping.
Johnny Sorrow Posted September 10, 2016 Report Posted September 10, 2016 I'm hoping enough studio types keep interfering with it until it's a "wacky romantic comedy". "Yeah, can we lose the whole murder/ suicide bit? It's not testing well at all. And that Billy Jack Haynes guy mentioned in the book? LOVE. HIM. He's crazy! He's dumb ! I'm thinking, he's our best friend who has spin off sequel potential."

Al Posted September 10, 2016 Report Posted September 10, 2016 Realistically and in all seriousness, isn't Foxcatcher a similar story?
Johnny Sorrow Posted September 10, 2016 Report Posted September 10, 2016 Now that's thinking like a studio player.
EricR Posted September 10, 2016 Report Posted September 10, 2016 Realistically and in all seriousness, isn't Foxcatcher a similar story? Except for the CTE, decade+ of steroid abuse, the world of pro wrestling, and a murder of a man's own wife and young child, yes.
Stiva Posted September 10, 2016 Report Posted September 10, 2016 For some reason, I'm incredibly excited to hear any potential titles for this.
