So in the WBD upfront, they mentioned how the new Max service (the combined HBO Max and Discovery+) is going to have live sports in addition to all the other content. All In isn't being called a PPV on any of the advertising, and while it could be a loss leader to get eyes on the product it would make more sense to have it as a special event for the corporate partner's new streaming service. Putting all the pieces together it sure looks like AEW and WBD signed a new deal that not only pays them more for Collision but seems to include streaming as well. It wouldn't make sense for them to throw Dark/After Dark overboard unless they had some kind of exclusive streaming deal in place. They used those shows to give looks to unsigned talent and give reps to folks not getting regular TV time, and while adding Collison helps with the TV time issue, getting rid of a place to give talent a look doesn't really seem like a smart business move unless you just got paid a boatload of cash by your TV partner.

Now the reports are that Ace Steel was secretly rehired months ago and Punk was pulled from the Collision announcement after the decision not to use Steel in a backstage capacity led to another blow-up. This whole situation feels like an iceberg where there has to be so much going on underneath the surface because nothing about this seems to add up at all.

As for Danielson, what reason is there to think he has a great booking mind? Being a great wrestler and being a great booker don't necessarily go hand-in-hand. Recall that when he was part of WWE creative, his big idea was for him to put over half the roster. Those of you who want him to be presented stronger probably won't like what you get if he's in charge of his own programs.

No doubt, if he has any say on his own programs, he'll more often than not end up disappointing the fans that want him to see him win meaningful matches and/or be involved in the top programs of the company.

I think Danielson could be useful in a booking committee. From everything I've read and heard from him, he's hit or miss with his ideas so if he has someone that can pick and choose the good ones, he could be a good asset in that regard. But the problem in AEW is that it seems there's no one capable of doing that job, so people like Mox, Jericho (and now possibly Dragon) end up doing the first thing that comes to mind and that's that.

So unless someone with a track record like Scott D'Amore show up and help out, I don' think any name involved in the booking process should garner much optimism.

This all smacks of Punk trying to get everything he wants because he knows AEW wants him back to help kick off the new show, and I don't blame him for that.....but why would anyone go to the mat for fucking Ace Steel? I know their history and all but potentially blowing some big paydays over him is some real "cutting off your nose to spite your face" energy.

If this ends up keeping him from returning, he's either an idiot or he never really wanted to come back and is just making ridiculous requests until they tell him to fuck off Then he can make more whiny Instagram stories about how everyone is mean to him.  This man is just so exhausting.

I don’t believe a damn word that’s been reported on this entire Punk/Elite/AEW story anymore. Until I see it with my own eyes, I’m considering it bullshit. There has been so much speculation, spin, bias, unfounded rumours and outright falsehoods reported during this entire fiasco…you honestly can’t trust anything you read or hear at this point. I’m not just talking about Meltzer and Alvarez either (although they have certainly contributed more than their fair share to the problem) I’m talking about everybody. I hate to use this phrase but at this point I am considering it all “fake news.”

At the end of the day, Punk is still a contracted talent. Is there anything preventing TK from just telling him straight-up that if he doesn't show up for work, he'll sue him for breach of contract? I've seen people speculate that Punk has some kind of leverage, legal or otherwise, over TK that we don't know about. Given how everything has gone down, I wouldn't rule that out. Punk is a draw, but he's not a star of such magnitude that you have to move heaven and earth to placate the guy.

AEW is now having a 4 tickets for 40 bucks deal for both Dynamite and DoN in Vegas.

This is both a indicator of how well that show is NOT doing in terms of tickets sold, and a great fucking deal! Maybe (as in: most definitely) they should go to other markets.

Damn if I was even near that state. I would pay that in a heartbeat.

Assertations that Danielson has a great booking mind are relying on the same faulty reasoning as any talk of his alleged ability as a trainer. Great wrestler ≠ great booker or trainer.

I literally have no idea why anyone continues to pay attention (and money) to these people. On the plus side, seeing the words "according to Meltzer....", does help to weed out comments that add nothing of value.

I can’t even imagine why AEW is running Scotiabank Arena in Toronto for a TV taping on July 24, either. AEW ran the Coca-Cola Coliseum for two nights the last time they ran Toronto, and they couldn’t sell it out both nights…and the Coliseum has half the seating capacity of Scotiabank Arena. I know it’s the same arena and the night before Forbidden Door II in Toronto, but adding that second show seems like a bad decision to me…at least in that venue. There are a bunch of really good venues in the Greater Toronto Area that they probably could have run and sold out, that are much more reasonably sized.

There is a very serious problem here in Toronto when it comes to these kind of events and secondary ticket brokers. As I complained about in great length, the first time AEW ran Toronto, the tickets were $325.00 they eventually went down to about $150.00 in the last few days before the shows. That is why they did not sell out the second show, which was a Rampage taping. The tickets for Forbidden Door II were going for about $1200.00. I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect that people are going to be willing to pay those kind of prices. I am not necessarily blaming AEW or Tony Khan because I think the tickets were probably more reasonably priced and were bought up by Stub Hub and re-sold. But they have to know that is how much the tickets are going for. I know a number of people that would probably go to some of the shows but they just can’t afford it.

Imagine how pissed off you would be if you paid full price for your tickets early and then saw that they were not selling and that deal became available later on?

If CM Punk has contract leverage that allows him to go to bat for his friend, there’s no real reason for him not to use it. He bought Luke Gallows’ house for him, he’s ride or die for people that he considers friends at a given moment (had to phrase that very particularly to capture the frequent fallouts, lol). If TK is dumb enough to sign a contract that allows one of his talents to threaten a major new TV property, he gets what he gets. Spend your whole life geeking out about wrestling and running an e-fed and learn nothing from the long history of what happens when you give those kinds of concessions, just unbelievable that anybody ever considered him a great wrestling mind.

He's an enthusiastic wrestling mind, a well-funded wrestling mind, a kid-in-a-candy-store wrestling mind, possibly a chemically-fuelled wrestling mind, a romantic wrestling mind. But it's his fourth(?) year - he's still a puppy. Hopefully he grows into his feet.
