Alvarez's claim is much, much dumber than you're giving him credit for. He's claiming that in 2007, RAW had the best six months of in-ring action of any promotion in history.

Oh, wow. I didn't even consider that angle of it. RAW didn't even have the best six-months of work in a WWE demi-promotion in 2007.

To be fair, the RAW main events were better than the Smackdown main events, but Smackdown had a better top-to-bottom show.

Just sounds to me like HBK was happy with his little 2007 run and Alvarez ( a big HBK mark mind you ) was stating his opinion on the matter. HBK hate is interesting and all, but I really think the wording of the article should be taken with a grain of salt.

Reason I'm Going to Hell #70809: My supervisor's getting married this week (he's a big wrestling fan mind you), and on the card that was passed around I wrote "Best Wishes, and remember a Stone Cold Stunner is not the best way to settle a marital dispute".

I am old enough to remember this, but for some reason I can't.

When they made Fuji a manager, did they ever come out and say basically, "Yes, he was once a bad-ass wrestler"?

They'd mention he was a wrestler, and I think that he was once a tag champion, but it was usually framed in a "it was a long time ago" context.

Guest Some Guy

So when is Meltzer finally going to give up his radio show? When was the last time he was on Live?

Now that he isn't on live for TNA PPVs that leaves only 2 weeks a month and unlike the Eyada show which was loaded with info, stories, and interviews the current show is more a recap of the last month that they haven't been live for.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I've been reading some old Wrestling Observers from 2004 and they are talking about Dynamite Kid's book. Apparently it's one of the best wrestling books out there. I'm wondering, 1. Is that true? and 2: Where can I get it? I'm guessing online through Amazon right?

You are correct ,Sir.

Also, anyone else hear Candice Michelle's new theme and immediately think of the

From the ROH PPV taping yesteday:

Bryan Danielson beat Chris Hero via ref stoppage. Solid match with a lot of heat. Dragon grabbed both of Hero's hands and stomped him repeatedly in the face until the ref stopped it. Hero walked around like he had a concussion after the match.

Because this is the perfect time for any wrestling promotion to do a concussion angle on PPV. Nice to see TNA doesn't have the market on lock for "why are they doing this" moments.

And what? We have to protect any aspect of wrestling that might have had anything to do with Chris Benoit? Benoit killed his wife and child in a marital dispute. Hundreds of athletes had numerous concussions, they generally don't murder their families.

This is glorious.

I'm reading through old WONs right now and was reading the recap of Capital Combat '90. Check this out.

The Rock & Roll Express beat The Freebirds in a Corporal Punishment match in 18:59. I was originally told that Corporal Punishment match was simply Jim Herd's idea for a new name for what was known in Texas and the old UWF as a Country Whipping match, in which all four guys would come in with a leather belt and get to whip each other until they looked like zebras. However, the Rock & Roll weren't in the Mid South when those matches took place, and they were invented (I could be wrong about this but I believe I actually saw the very first one ever on Labor Day of 1983 between Kerry Von Erich and Michael Hayes in Fort Worth) AO (After Ole). Luckily, they never really explained the stipulations on TV. From what little was said, it appeared Morton (the spokesman for his team) thought it was another name for an Indian Strap match (all four tied together with a strap, the old Wahoo McDaniel specialty match from the 70s and early 80s) and the TV show where Ole Anderson did commentary, it appeared Ole also thought it was a new name for an Indian Strap match. A few things happened on the way to this match. First off, it was apparently "supposed" to last more than 25 minutes, which a Country Whipping match simply can't do (you can only avoid beating someone to death with belts for so long before they really are beaten to death). Then a certain individual who will go nameless but his namesake was a famous cowboy was told to buy whips for the match. Instead of buying leather belts, he went to a sex shop and bought a cat-o-nine tails. Well, you certainly can't whip someone with that for 20 minutes either, so they tied the whips to the ropes and used them two or three brief flurries during the match, and aside from those brief flurries it was just a regular match. As a match itself, it was a good match, but it wasn't what was advertised. Finish saw Hayes gave Morton the DDT, and when he went for a second DDT, Morton came off the top ropes with a sunset flip for the pin. **3/4
