kjh
Taking bumps on a regular basis probably isn't good for someone's long term memory.
khawk20
There was also an incomplete version (albeit enough to decide HOLY SHIT THIS IS AWESOME) on the PWI Lords of the Ring tape, which was a lot more common than both versions of the Starrcade compilation. That's where I first saw it, too.
Bix
Babinsack Gift Guide! Women’s Wrestling, various promotions I’ve long been a proponent of women’s wrestling, as it has a more pure approach to the business, with talent that is more in tune the audience, booking that is more logical and less offensive, and a sense of history that often gets overlooked in the fast paced modern styles. Furthermore, while many of the indy promotions gravitate towards a mimicry of the mainstream, promotions like SHIMMER and Women Superstars Uncensored and CHICKFIGHT and others are more interested in showing that the lady wrestlers are far more talented that the pretty faces on Cable TV. Most often, they prove that sentiment. Check out the various women’s promotions with an internet search for a variety of sites that sell their DVDs. (I sense a column on women’s wrestling coming up soon.) And, in the spirit of HHH, let me not forget my own book: Professional Wrestling Intellectual. My book covers wrestling’s past and present and new stars, and provides chapters on women’s wrestling, Old School memories, controversies and likely the best collection of stories on Bruno Sammartino around…. Kronos
Professional Wrestling Intellectual. Seriously? Seriously? And while I respect what he's trying to say about indy wrestling and chick rasslin, it all smacks as just what kjh says -- your WWE fan friends need to be converted. Uggh. What the fuck is that idiot talking about? I've watched a helluva lot of chick rasslin, and it's the sort of thing that fans say about it. The truth is, it's just indy wrestling. Some of them are decent, and some of them suck. Many of the women wrestlers are accessible to their fans via twitter, FB, and even after-show parties (SHIMMER makes a big deal out of it). But is that so odd for most indies? Logical and less offensive? I don't know that that means. Women's promotions run a lot fewer shows, so angles get dragged out for months and even years (in the case of Alison Danger v Portia Perez, which started before AD even got pregnant and continued after her return). It's just indy wrestling, for all that means. But with lots and lots of tits and ass.

I'm getting a "If one of the wrestlers walks past you in a crowded space, her ass or boobs MIGHT brush up against you!" vibe. It's true. After SHIMMER tapings, which happen 2 or 3 times a year, they always adjourn to a local bar. The objective, of course, is to get to hang with your favorite gals. Daffney or Rain and their tits, any one? It seemed like a big deal back in 2008 when I went, but it seems pretty silly now now that I took a bunch of time away from that scene . And truthfully, it's pretty damned creepy at times. slamminladies.com, anyone?
Bix
On some level I feel really bad for Dave Prazak. He badly wanted this to be the opposite of the "Headscissors! BOOBS!" DVDs that were being released by others, but those folks are his main audience.

I was under the impression that by the time Shimmer reached Vol. 20s that they were drawing more kids but I saw only saw like legit two rows of adult males on the video of Serena returning to Shimmer a few months ago. I remember hearing Shelley Martinez say not in these words that tolerating weirdos was part of the job.
Bix
Even though it is odd that Alvarez has not seen much stuff pre 1990, it is even worse to me that on most weeks Dave doesn't watch Smackdown. The show is usually around an hour and fifteen minutes on DVR and for the most recognized wrestling journalist, its incredible to me that more times that not he doesn't watch the second highest rated show. This would be like Peter King skipping out on Monday Night Football. I'm pretty sure he watches it, but he doesn't have the time to write it up most weeks due to Yahoo committments. Agree with the notion that Dave watches it. I don't even think time is that much of an issue, as there's less to watch these days than when this was on the monthly slate back in 1996-99. The wrestling schedule now is pretty light. His MMA schedule is up, but doubt that all of what he watches in a 3 month stretch is up. John Whoops. jdw
I think as folks pointed to in the other thread, Dave's not consistent on whether he watches or not. Maybe he just reads the show report from the tapings. John
shoe
I LMAO the other day when listening to Observer Radio with Dave and Alvarez talking about the Regal/Daniel Bryan match which was an awesome 4 minute match according to them.(I haven't seen it) Alvarez goes at least we got to see it on Raw and not Superstars. Dave is like I wish it went longer. I'm thinking guys if it was on Superstars we would have gotten a much longer bout.

kjh
Well, his star ratings do correlate well with Dave's.
Cox
Seriously, how does somebody rate 22 matches 4 3/4 stars or better from Dragon Gate, ROH, PWG, and New Japan alone this year? It's one thing to be really excited and enthusiastic about a few certain groups, and I'm not even accounting for taste here, but how is it possible that 22 matches that are perfect or near perfect came from four promotions alone in the year 2010?
Ditch
The matches hit the groove for his preferences. The internal logic makes sense to me even if I wildly disagree with him. He places a ton of emphasis on the finishing run, isn't really concerned about a lack of selling or transitions, and enjoys athletic guys doing a ton of highspots. And as kjh says, that lines up pretty well with Dave's rating style. Who knows how many ****+ ratings Dave would hand out if he rated everything from DG, PWG and ROH? Meanwhile, Alan is enthusiastic and likeable. Seems like a perfect fit for F4W. It's not as though there's a studious rep to be upheld at this point.
