Maybe he's still angry that JR left his job as VP and moved back to Oklahoma. Vince is supposed to be weird about loyalty.

JR left? It might have been during one of my "lasped" stages of WON subscribing... or one of my "skim" stages. But I thought JR's getting gradually pushed aside was part of the cleaning out of the old guard, similar to Patterson being phased down the power ladder.

Perhaps the "JR left" stuff was simply JR seeing his front office role & power & influence gone and just tapping out.

Guest Slickster

On Twitter, Jim Ross made the preceding comment directly following last night's TNA Lockdown pay-per-view:

"U should feel good of ur work 2nite. Creative can be tweaked easily. It's easy 2 ID the players. Poor Mike lacks instincts but tries. La ..."

It appears Ross fumbled sending a private message to former colleague Taz as the message was quickly deleted, though it lingered a short while longer on Twitter's public timeline.

How does that make JR grouchy, hateful, or vile? There's been an awful lot of stretching to meet those terms in this thread, but this one seems by far the furthest away from applying to those adjectives.

Edit: Here's a screencap:

I note that it doesn't actually say to whom the comment was directed, though I suppose that Taz would be a very likely candidate.

I think Ross is far too smart to go to TNA. He may be a little upset that WWE doesn't want him to do announcing anymore, but I think he'd still much rather do stuff for DVDs and 24/7 and spend more time working at his restaurant than go down to the circus in Orlando. I think he knows it would do far more to hurt him than help TNA.

Ross is FAR too smart to even entertain the notion of going to TNA. While a Ross/Tazz or Ross/Tenay combo would probably be good. There's two things that would stop that from happening.

1. Russo. He was trying to get JR taken off of TV way back in '99 with that ridiculous heel turn because he believed that fat, southern, JR didn't mesh well with the mainstream WWF.

2. Bischoff. He gave Ross the axe in '93 for the same reasons Russo tried to get him unseated six years after.

Was it really Russo who was trying to get rid of JR in 1998-1999, though? I mean, considering that Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn have both continued to try to pull JR from television numerous times since then would seem to debunk that it was all Russo.

I'd add a third:

3. Ross doesn't want to burn his bridges with the WWE.

Perhaps he's been great with his money over the years, has invested it well, and didn't take a hit with the economy crunching. But the WWE cuts a steady paycheck, even it just comes when he does special stuff like 24/7 and dvds. With them likely heading towards a Wrestling Channel, there's more potential work for him even if he never goes back to play-by-play. If you're looking to suppliment your retirement income, it's probably best to stick with the one that will provide a more steady income.

If Ross has blown through his money like Ric Flair (unlikely), or perhaps got hit from real estate investments (possible), then maybe he's think a big payday would get him back on his feet. In that case, "jumping" for a three year locked in deal from a money mark might be something he needs. I don't see it... and unless you're smart and have the contract guaranteed by Panada, you're always at risk of Panada folding TNA into BK and being SOL.

Ross seems to have stuck around the WWE and taken the abuse over the years because he's been pretty smart: through ups and downs, it's made him a lot of money.

It's more likely that he's using the "rumors" of TNA's interest to get things more firmed up with the WWE.

More than just "rumors", Jason Powell has reported that Jim Ross has had a business meeting with the Carters recently. Of course, I don't doubt that's partly a ploy by Ross to get a better deal from WWE. Still, even with word leaking about that meeting I doubt WWE will offer him everything he's looking for (i.e. being their PPV play-by-play man). So I wouldn't write off Ross going to TNA completely, it depends whether he makes the smart long term financial decision to stay with WWE or opts for the short term ego fix that TNA offers.

"Let's have daddy-in-law have me work with the 50 year old announcer with bell's palsy and have a match, you know, a worked match, so I can actually punch the guy in the eye without getting charged for assault nor having another guy kick my ass for it, because I'm a frustrated little bitch."

That was an awkward night for me. While I was watching that match, my stepfather decided to walk in at that moment and start one of his frequent arguments about how I was wasting my life on this wrestling shit. "No, I really want to keep being a wrestling announcer, it's important to me" is a hard sell when at that very moment we're seeing the industry's most notable announcer getting the shit shoot-beaten out of him and bleeding all over the ring.

The Jim Ross vs. Triple-H match is here.

I can't see when exactly Hunter potatoes Ross, though it's partly due to Hunter's carelessness. Watching Hunter throw worked punches and chair shots looks very stiff, as if he's only concerned with making sure his offense looks as believable as possible. Were the shoe on the other foot he'd be complaining that someone "can't work."

It also appears Hunter blades Ross at one point, which I find barbaric, outdated, and unnecessary.

Watching this clip makes me question being a fan for nearly thirty years. I'm disgusted with WWE for sanctioning this and I'm more disgusted with Triple-H. The guy is a pathetic pussy who must hate that there isn't a single human being who thinks he's a "tough guy." I wish someone who doesn't depend on WWE to live would shoot on the guy and rip his celery-stalk muscles off their bones.

It's possible I'm not remembering this correctly, but I remember there being some type of story in the WON about word getting back to RVD that HHH had been badmouthing him at production meetings. RVD was taping up his fists and was on his way to confront HHH when Vince showed up immediately and said he needed to speak with HHH right away. Seems like this was at a San Francisco house show or something, and Vince had Afa with him. Did I imagine this? 2003-ish.

Heck, could we make a full Confirmed Stories of Triple H Being A Total Douchebag thread? He's been such a constant target for smarks for so long, it's sometimes easy to forget that he has indeed done plenty of underhanded shit throughout the years. Several different posts here recently have reminded me of various tales about Trips and his backstabbing nature.

Most of them came in the 2002-2003 reign of terror where Hunter made sure he was the unquestionable top guy in the company now that Rock and Austin were gone (for the most part)

I'm not a total HHHater but man did he drain the fun out of the shows during those 2 years. Especially 03

For the record, I don't consider this grouchy, vile, or hateful, but in the absence of an "interesting comments from JR" thread, I figured this would be a good place to put it.

2nd Pet Peeve of the day....active performers who occupy significant TV time that are in a major decision making capacity inside a wrestling company. I question those individual's objectivity and I feel that it's unsettling to the majority of the performers who are sitting in a locker room wondering when their number is going to be called.

I hope that this is the shape of things to come, and we get a look behind the curtain through the eyes of JR. He says he's not interested in doing a shoot interview, and he still has a talent-relations contract with WWE (it's just the on-air contract that has expired), but I'd be intrigued to see whether he'll expand on statements like the above one in the book that he's currently penning.
