The Jaaaawn thing in hindsight is clearly one of those things that could work with Cena and Cena alone cuz he really was unique. Its time to kill it

Seems like he wants to create a signature call like Tony Chimel did with Edge and the "Rated R Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper star" bit.

Plus the fact that he is a creep who likes to hit on underage girls.  I mean is him saying 'JOHNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN" really that important in his character

To be fair, this is a 50 dollar show. I could get almost half a year of IWTV for that price. You can’t have a “solid” show in 2020 and expect people not to bitch at a 50 dollar price tag.

People in the U.S. should bitch about the price because it's $20 in the rest of the world. That has been a massive turn-off to me from day one.

I REALLY hope that was not a fuck finish. Its one of those things that's fine when done once or twice but if done consistently, makes your stipulations mean nothing.

The paradigm shift finisher aside, i thought the match was excellent and MJF looked great in defeat. I dunno, I think this show was a lot better than the consensus I have seen on social media so far

Appropriate that in the end, MJF was right and Mox did need his move to win after all.

That finish felt a bit too cute. Maybe they're trying to get another match out of it, but while I enjoyed the program, I'm not clamoring for more. Or maybe it's just an out to give MJF some talking points.

Probably towards the bottom of the AEW PPVs on the whole, but still a very good show. I think it lacked a really memorable match (maybe missing Cody hurt them, he's really delivered on the big shows).

I'll eat a bit of crow in admitting that MJF isn't quite main event-ready, but he'll get there in time. And the Wardlow stuff could be interesting (honestly kinda thought they dropped the angle). Don't think it was a bad show and there were some good matches, but definitely their worst (or at least their worst since making TV). Refusing to stop Hardy-Sammy and the J.R. garbage made things even worse.

This was like when NXT was having their run of great Takeover shows then finally had one that was still good but not as good as the prior ones.

I fully understand the anger and upset, but Reby really is doing herself (and Matt probably) screaming at people on Twitter.  No one really is looking good here, Tony said he initially called for the match to be stopped but the doctor told him Matt was okay enough to do the finish which it was allowed to continue.  The doctor was out there with Matt so it was probably some combo of Matt not wanting the doctor to stop it, and Tony probably being naiive enough to believe he was okay when he was obviously out on his feet moments before.

Assuming for a moment everything said was true (I know),  the doctor is either really bad at his job and not able to determine someone wobbly AF after a blow to the head was not fit to go on OR Matt's Broken Powers are real and he somehow managed to Jedi mind trick the doctor into saying he was okay.

Or.....everyone involved realized they fucked up and there's some ass covering going on.

Honestly I'd probably wager that the doctor really didn't want to be the one to call it and asked Matt if he was OK before telling Tony "he's okay to do the finish". Then we all saw him nearly falling off the lighting rig and everyone panic'd.

You see it in (American) football all the time, in theory the team doctors have the authority to sit someone down but they all know in reality there would be a shit storm rained upon him if it was someone of even medium importance getting pulled.

Hopefully it's a learning experience for all parties, and everyone will do better the next time an obvious head injury takes place.

I get the Hardy thing left a bad taste in people's mouths but I'm not understanding the hate this show is getting on social media. All the matches have been solid so far.

The Janella pre-show match sucked. The Britt Baker thing sucked. The tag match was eh... The battle royal was terrible - complete with a Shockmaster 2020 debut. Then the Matt Hardy thing happened. At that point, Shida/Rosa came out, which I was excited for - and the show was half over - but it was 9:30 PM so I had to leave for work.

So from everything that I got to see, it was the drizzling shits. TNA-level bad. But I did read when I got home that some of the stuff in the second half, including Rosa/Shida wasn't bad. But yeah, from what I watched, I rightfully shit all over it on Twitter.

The Britt thing did suck,  and not sure which tag match you were talking about but both Private Party/Dark Order and the 8 man tag were good IMO. I'm not usually a fan of battle royals but I thought this one was very good...except all anyone will remember of it is the botch.Which is understandable, but it's a shame since the Casino gimmick put a new spin on a tired format and has produced good results.

Shida/Rosa, Orange/Jericho, and Mox/MJF were all great and IMO it's kind of unfair to shit on something when you admittedly didn't watch the best parts.

I get it though, the Matt Hardy deal was a scary situation and I don't blame anyone if it soured their outlook on the show. If you want to make the case it wasn't up to AEW's standards I could see that argument and probably even agree with it for at least the first part of the show. To say the entire show was bad is honestly just factually incorrect and comes off like an emotional kneejerk response.

Just curious: I understand you had to leave for work, but why would you buy a show and then read the results for the second half instead of just watching where you left off?

Or did you watch a live feed through *ahem* alternate means? (If that's why you couldn't see the rest of the show, then that makes sense. Otherwise, I am genuinely baffled.)

Honestly I think people bitching about a $50 show "only" being solid is more of an indictment of the person saying it than the show itself.

The price you pay for a meal, pair of pants, ticket to an event or any other good, service or experience doesn't at all impact your expectations for it?

I'm sure part of the reason for hesitancy in calling off the match was the stipulation that Matt would have had to leave AEW had he lost. The lesson here (well, one of them) is to never book matches with stipulations you have no intention of delivering on because sometimes shit happens and the match has to be stopped.

The justification that Matt felt okay and wanted to continue is a patently absurd one. Wrestlers always want to go on. Fighters always want to go on. The entire point of protocol and doctors is to protect them, sometimes from themselves.

Just finished watching this and I think it might of been the worst show I've seen this year.

Baker/Swole was a waste of time. Swole can't act to save her life. Can't wait to hear Cornette rip this to shreds on his podcast.

The Young Bucks match was like every other Young Bucks match that they've had in AEW. Lots of big moves that mean very little. Luchasaurus looks awkward as hell trying to keep up with the pace of the three smaller guys he was working with.

The Casino Battle Royale was a clusterfuck. That Darby Allin body bag spot was needlessly dangerous. Matt Sydal making his surprise debut only to fall on his arse after attempting a Shooting Star Press was a debut that was Shockmaster levels of bad.

I'm disgusting with AEW letting Matt Hardy carry on after that sickening botch.

The Women's title match was worked well enough, but never had any heat going for it.

The eight man tag match told a decent story and Dustin Rhodes looked good.

I wasn't paying much attention during the Page/Omega vs FTR match, but it didn't look like I missed much. The post match was at least decent.

The pre-match stuff for the Mimosa Mayhem match was great and got the silly stipulation over as a match suited for a blood feud. The match itself was solid enough and Jericho made Cassidy look like a star. This was match of the night for me, although it's not a MOTYC by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm a big fan of the psychology in the MJF/Moxley match where MJF forces Moxley to wrestle his style of match. The action wasn't as good as the psychology behind it, but MJF looked great and he's a future star for sure.

(written pretty much as I'm watching)

I actually thought Private Party vs #3 & #4 was a pretty good match for the Buy Out. But yeah, the idea of a pre-show is kinda dated and needless.

Speaking of needless, JR is now firmly is the "detracting from the product" category. Really, I'm sorry to say, but he did not bring *anything* to the table tonight, quite the opposite (nowhere near a Mauro who makes a show unwatchable by his lone self, but still, Excalibur & Schiavone by themselves would have been much better). JR during Rosa vs Shida "Back in the days when I was a referee, women's match were more formulaic". Grandpa is telling those old story again...  (I did not heard the stuff about Anna Jay's outfit, nor did I paid attention to it BTW, so I missed that one). He's almost drunken Gordon Solie level...

Well, Swole vs Baker was a whole lot of nothing. Highlight was Reba screaming "You stabbed her !" after the syringe spot. Bad ending, wrong person won. Can anyone remind me the appeal of Big Swole, because it is still eluding me. She isn't a good worker and hasn't even displayed any charisma in this where the context was hiding her work, and this feud really has diluted what was fun when baker turned heel at first. Apparently this match was added to the main show because the usual Twitter fake-outrage crowd whined it was "disrespectful to the women" to have it on the pre-show. Expect it was a total pre-show nothing match, really, and started the show on a major flat note, even the announcers sounded uninterested tbh.

Young Bucks vs Jurassic Express is exactly the hot opener that was needed for the actual PPV. Love to see more heelish YB, they are at their best as dick heels. Matt kicking out the crutch was a great touch. Insane sequences between Nick & Jungle Boy. Apart from one spot at the beginning, Luchasaurus looked the best he ever did to me. Really the kind of match that builds and builds and actually gets better as it goes, by the end I could call it excellent/great without a doubt.

Kylinn King in the crowd. <3

Sydal with the Shockmaster debut ! Well, I'm still glad he's there, good catch for AEW and it's always nice to get that surprise entrant. I'm guessing they are gonna pile on this during the next BTE, as they should. Battle Royal was what it was, they eliminated Fenix way too quickly, nice to see Sonny Kiss get a feature elimination (of course he had to get thrown out just afterward, which is straight out of WWE). Of all the guys off Dark, I would have not chosen Will Hobbs, but I guess he got the spot because he's *big*. Ok, Darby is a lunatic, the old "thumbtacks in a body bag spot. Ending was kinda convoluted, I don't think we need some snake spots in 2020. Nice to see Kingston go until the end though. I had Archer winning, so there. Totally gives away the result of the AEW title match though, that's really a thing to pounder for the future...

Holy fuck, Matt paying tribute to the Great Sasuke was brutal and scary as hell... You know what, I'm beginning to think Sammy Guevera's career is kinda snakebit, as I'm sure some will accuse him of diving with too much momentum on Matt, hence him falling too far... So, Matt is a mix of Mick Foley and Kurt Angle now in term of not giving a fuck and working concussed. Yeah, not the best judgment from Tony Khan here to listen to Hardy and let him "work" (he really didn't do much honestly) after that point (I'm sure it's gonna be weaponized by the anti-AEW crowd too). Hopefully Hardy is gonna be OK and now we have a legit reason for him showing up in a completely insane character again (and not take bumps anymore, honesty yeah they could have called an audible here)...

Shida vs Rosa is precisely what their women's division should be. Terrific match and performance from both, although I have to say Thunder Rosa worked like she knew (and she probably did) that it was the match of her life, and she came of like a total star, with tons of presence and charisma to add to her excellent in-ring work. They have to sign her eventually, she can't stay in the NWA forever, that would be a waste. They really have built Shida into their best champ since Riho, in a much different (and better, to my tastes) way.

People call Kip Sabian a dork, a geek and whatnot... yeah, he's actually getting married to Penelope Ford, so there. I dig the old Stevie Richards look. I for one look forward to the live wedding, because you know it's gonna be ruined, and there's nothing like a ruined wedding. Gotta love the "This message was approved by AEW" when Kip is pimping is Twitch channel too.:D

8 men tag was excellent. I've been loving the dynamic with Cabana, which paid off today. QT is ridiculously underrated. Dark Order are all fantastic workers. Cardona... is just there. Yeah, he looked good, but thus far, everything about him screams WWE-lifer in term of his presentation (funny or not, his best friend Brian Myers on IMPACT is kinda feeling the same to me). Out of all the people included here, with Allie, Brandi & even Anna Jay at ringside, he was easily the least interesting character, because he got none apart from being IRL friend with Cody. Well worked and booked match, gotta love Dustin winning on PPV in 2020. Very good promo afterward too. Either Brodie eats him alive, either he actually wins and we have a problem (don't think so as they know they can't do better than their classic match last year).

Ok, FTR vs Omega/Page. THE match of the night to me. And it was. Masterclass, really. And the amazing thing is that basically, the whole match built to 1 spot. 1 only spot. I loved how they teased Page hitting his lariat on Omega only to have it go the other way, which is much better because the guy who makes the mistake is the guy holding the opponent. FTR looked terrific as usual, but really, to me Omega outshined everyone with his performance. And the post-match was perfect too, as it keeps on delivering slow-build. This storyline is exactly what I wanted from AEW when I think about what Omega did in Japan (the stuff with Ibushi, Bullet Club and such). So yeah, maybe there was something a wee bit "anticlimatic" at the end because this match was less about FTR than about Omega & Page, but now every piece is set for the Bucks vs FTR and Omega vs Page eventually. Great match, great booking, great long-term storytelling.

Oh fuck me they are working that Mimosa (whatever it is) like Onita would exploding barb-wire, that's awesome ! Jericho works much crisper than the last match, I guess he wanted to redeem himself. Fun bullshit and a lot more actual good work than I expected. FInish was a given, I'm sure Jericho was glad to take that nestea plunge into the water considering the heat. Really good match, much less gimmicky than I thought it would. Jericho put Orange over twice, that's quite impressive.

Mox vs MJF took a little bit of time to get going, as to me MJF on control can be a little dry at first, but after the blade-job it found its pace and actually became really good. I never felt MJF could win, but really it's all a learning experience for him at this point. The finish was cute and it was fitting with the entire angle and MJF always cheating to win anyway. MJF and Wardlow outsmarted themselves. Like I said, Archer winning the Battle Royal before totally gave out the result. But hey, I look forward to Archer & Mox beating the shit out of each other like they're somewhere in Japan.

So apparently there's plenty negativity about this show ? What else is new... Yeah, the Britt vs Swole stuff was bad, but it lasted about ten minutes and it wasn't supposed to be part of the PPV to begin with. The Battle Royal was quite ok. If you put the Matt Hardy accident aside, everything else ranged from very good (Jericho/Orange, MJF vs MOX) to excellent (Young Bucks vs Jurassic Express, Rosa vs Shida, 8 men tag) to great (FTR vs Omega/Page). Not as good as the previous one, but what could, but to call that less than a very good show seems ridiculous to me. The one big criticism I could make (apart from how they handled Matt Hardy) is that the show kinda stalled after the big tag-team match, because the last two matches could not follow it, but they both had the feel good endings so it was understandable.

Also, Reby Hardy doing herself no favors on Twitter is nothing new...

Was talking about this with a friend last night...

I hope AEW didn't sign Matt Sydal. To me, guys like that are a colossal waste of money - no matter how cheap they work, because that budget can still be used better elsewhere. Do I have anything against Sydal? Not really. He's...fine. But they have a lot of guys already who can do the same style, and they're younger and flashier than Sydal is.

IMO, if AEW had to do it all over again, they wouldn't have opened the purse strings for Shawn Spears (who I like), Pac, Jake Hager, and people like that. Sydal is on the same list in my mind. I can at least justify Zack Ryder because he always got far more over than his push and station would dictate.

If Sydal is just a once-off (or maybe a twice-off so he can make up for "Shockmastering" the first time), that's fine. Even as a surprise, I think the majority reaction was "oh, that guy" and "that's nice, I guess." But okay, still a fun use of him. More than that, why bother?

My friend mentioned Chris Hero as someone he'd like to see signed. Even though I thought he was useless in NXT as Kassius Ohno and he's also someone I don't necessarily think AEW should hand a contract to, I can understand that more than someone like Sydal. At least Hero has a cult following of sorts, unlike Sydal, and a unique look, also unlike Sydal. The fact that it hasn't happened yet makes me wonder if AEW just isn't interested in Hero, or maybe Hero isn't interested in AEW for whatever reason?
