  1. I thoroughly enjoyed the tournament. Some great talents, especially Pete Dunne, and a great crowd. Really well done
  2. Obviously you should've been watching his 1982-84 WWF stuff instead
  3. An RIP thread would be a shit show, but I guess this one is already and will be. Probably best to let time pass before a proper assessment of him as a performer
  4. I think Savage vs Steamboat from Mania 3 is pretty important as far as influencing future wrestlers in terms of working and match layout, in ways that are still evident today. Sure there were other matches just as exciting and mold-breaking (away from the 70s style, or however you want to categorize what came before) from the time, but because it happened on such an historic and widely seen card its legend became far greater.
  5. Punk will return eventually
  6. Steele was in numerous tag matches over the years, that was just some carny Vince talk about him only being in two
  7. Or they could just keep her as far away from Stephanie as possible. Stephanie pats herself on the back for giving all of the women a fair chance and on the same show she's knocking down Bayley for being average and plain. It's counterproductive, it makes no sense and it's awful. Well, from their perspective they're recreating the success of the Bryan vs Authority story, which was based on Bryan being not good enough to be a star. Which helped make Bryan a star, and using that logic, will help make Bayley a star
  8. Kaufman was a New Yorker who attended MSG cards in the 60s and 70s and was even interviewed by Vince Jr on an MSG show in 79 doing the intergender gimmick, so there is a connection outside of just Memphis
  9. Probably lots I'm sure. I'm not sure why anyone would want to deny themselves that pleasure, but I also don't understand why many wrestling fans like what they do Edit: Damn it Dylan. This was a response to peppercorn

  11. I've come to love the meaningless mid card stuff of the 80s, mostly WWF. I don't know why, maybe because I dislike most modern wrestling and this kind of wrestling doesn't exist anymore. Stuff that bores most fans to tears. Mundane, unpretentious wrestling as far removed from star ratings and greatness as you can get. Two guys pretending to fight in their underwear. Pro wrestling
  12. A wrestling world where everyone aspires to having a Meltzer-defined 5 star match is the darkest timeline
  13. It's become the Super Bowl, same 5 or so locations in rotation
  14. WoS is on a major TV station with far greater availability than anything WWE is on. That is why they were maybe concerned, not because they feared being outclassed production wise
  15. I really enjoyed this. Great chemistry and a very welcoming vibe. Good stuff
  16. Fuck Shane McMahon
  17. Considering this is the traditional slow season and the second of two December shows after Survivor Series and before the Royal Rumble looked pretty unimportant, I'm not sure any real conclusions can be drawn about how cold the promotion is right now. If interest isn't increased by the build to Mania going forward and things continue to decline, then yes there are big problems
  18. This board is great, really I don't think anything else comes close based on what I've seen. The mood of the board has definitely changed over the last few years, noticeably as the focus shifted from praising old school stuff to more concern about the current scene. Still, some of the battles between posters were even more heated in the past, and threads were as contentious then as now. What's different seems to be the mood of the times, with everybody wanting to get political and draw battle lines claiming to be either this or that, left or right, blah blah blah. Personally I hate politics and find the discussion tiresome. But I can ignore it. I don't think anything needs to be done as far as increased moderation. Those who will get banned will bury themselves eventually. They always do. The GWE definitely did damage to the board though. A lot of people left after that or cut back on their contributions it seems. And people are moving to Twitter and leaving the musty old message board behind. Can't fight the future. I've been retreating more into the past though. Anyway, this is still a great board. Times have changed. All I can say is celebrate what you love and fight the urge to be negative and complain and trash wrestling in your posts. Nobody wants to read that

    NXT talk

I enjoyed it. Tag was pretty good. Asuka worked pretty much pure babyface for the hometown crowd and it turned out to be a good bout. Didn't watch Joe vs Nak a second time, which I now see was the unedited version
  20. Who do you consider the least flawed wrestlers? Just to understand where you're coming from
  21. You are a God among men, Landy
  22. What is that even supposed to mean?
  23. This was already discussed ad nauseum years ago
  24. Piper was undeniably the hottest heel in wrestling at the time. Flair was actually a babyface in the Carolinas at that point, and wouldn't go full heel until the end of 85 with the formation of the Horsemen
  25. I love that match. Haven't watched the whole show since I was a kid, but have seen matches here and there. Horrific commentary
