JvK reviews pimped matches from late 90s-10s

I'm 36 and I have no tweed at all. I would wear it if I got a tweed jacket though. -
Sunny Side Up: In Through the Backdoor
thebrainfollower replied to Judy Bagwell's topic in Pro Wrestling
One of the sadder stories in wrestling where the end result isn't a death. I remember seeing her in WWF at 16 and thinking that was a star. She really did redefine the role and kind of women they want for better or worse. -
I haven't spoken to Brie either. But I've watched wrestling for 30 years and been a stage actor almost all of that time, and a director for 20 years. I think it's not too hard to see when someone is going through the motions, at least for me. To give another example of a recent diva, you could visibly tell Maryse didn't care after about 2 months with Ted Dibiase and realizes where that was going. She's pretty much admitted that herself. I agree, Nikki certainly doesn't need Brie. Dating Cena aside, she's blown past her in the last year and a half as a worker and talent and clearly carries and is the star of the team. But I think she THINKS she does and that makes all the difference. And yeah Bryan's income being in doubt is a huge part of the problem for Brie clearly. I'm not saying she should be booked as a star. I'm just thinking there should be a non wrestling capacity for her in WWE she might actually enjoy. Being the clear jobber of the division doesn't really help anyone. It means absolutely nothing to beat her, since she's literally the only jobber in the whole division. Even Natalya, who almost never wins a match, came back and beat her with ease. In a time where most diva matches can get 10 minutes her losing twice a week every week in 3 each is just kinda sad to me. I'm still wondering where they are going post Rumble when Charlotte beats Becky (assuming the reverse doesn't happen, but I can't see them giving up on Charlotte this quick)

Most promotions you've followed at one time
thebrainfollower replied to Cross Face Chicken Wing's topic in Pro Wrestling
I WOULD have watched all that in the 80's but lived in MA without cable. We got WWF and the occasional IWCCW show. -
As I posted above I find it sad. Mainly because I actually believe the total divas narrative that Brie wants to leave WWE but won't due to financial pressure and her sister convinced that the Bella twins "Brand" won't work without her. She's clearly even for her going through the motions and miserable.

I've got that Koko - Rick Steiner match Johnny. Wanna say it's on the network too. -

From 97 to early 2001 I followed WWF/WCW and ECW. That's about it for me. -
Is Scott Keith really as influential as you guys think? Meltzer I can see but him?

BRAINBUSTER 8: THE FARCE AWAKENS
thebrainfollower replied to Johnny Sorrow's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Johnny Sorrow you now have a new mission in life Get Parv on Jeopardy. Somehow, someway this MUST happen. -
Sid almost never worked hard and got huge reactions. He's definitely anti-workrate. He had an indy match about 6 years ago that might be the all time anti workrate bout I saw live. He took no bumps at all and his only offense was 3 elbows to the ribs to break out of a chinlock and the rollup he won with.

I'd love to know what the big night was for each and every territory in the 70's if there was one.

I think you're slightly mistaken, they truly believe they ARE the stars. If Dana approved it, you be darn sure Steph would go over Ronda in a screwjob the Raw before Mania if each is in Reigns/HHH's corner.

I feel like this is my not just ring work system coming back to bite me in the ass actually. IF 1998-99 Vince had stayed the same to this day I'd consider him.
-
Anyone guessing what the next program will be? I can't see Becky going over so is Sasha healthy for Mania? Will Nikki come back for it? I could see a triple threat with 3 heels being the perfect vindication of how WWE thinks women act. Also I pointed this out in another thread but why does it have to be Brie Bella who drops EVERY single match to Charlotte and her challenger week in and week out? And now Natalya as well as of Raw. I almost feel genuinely sorry for Brie. She clearly doesn't want to be in WWE anymore and is only doing it because of a combination of her husband's uncertain future and her sister's wanting the Bella Twins brand kept intact and pressuring her to stay. Instead they keep her around to be a jobber and drop a match or two each and every week. Yeah she's terrible, but she's also stuck in a life she clearly doesn't want and not able to start the family she does want. And now Paige and Natalya are suddenly friends again and Paige is magically a face. I really wonder how hard it is to write two credible programs for women. Even in the latter one is Smackdown and Main Event only it would be a start.

I had a real hard time finding the MSG Bruno-Larry matches. The cage match is all over the place and I have the 24/7 version of Shea anyway. There's a lot of Philly stuff particularly covered in Titans I've never found on youtube. I'm guessing Kal Rudman takes it all down.

Mystery Titans Theatre

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0b5UhDYo0k This is the PERFECT card for you guys. All jobber vs jobber. The "quality" matches are as follows Demolition vs Spivey and Jerry Allen Koko B Ware vs. Danny Davis (20 minute time limit draw) Harts - Bulldogs (goes only 6 minutes) This is the very definition of a C or maybe even a D show from the time and it was filmed, something very rare for those shows. -
Best Promo of the Year? This is the greatest heel promo of all time. I had never seen this. Cornette's gone up 10 places in my GWE list just for this work. I nearly cried over a HEEL losing a feud for cripes sakes.

Short of 1985 Bobby Heenan showing up, I don't think that bar is ever going to be reached again. I want a rigged Parv win and heel title run just for comedy's sake! -
Top 50 for me Hogan is 18 for me. I bet nobody comes within 20 places of that lol.

Is there any footage of the final SMW show out there?

Great promos and angles from the last 15 years

For GREAT stuff? Not much. -
Not sure I get the point of it being Brie Bella who drops every single match to Charlotte and her challenger. Are Alicia, Naomi and Tamina hurt? Are Paige and Natalya off? We're back down to a division of 3 women seemingly which is about where things were in 99 as well.

Is it fair to say this is finally the refusal to push new acts biting them? That by their standards that if they go with Lesnar and Taker facing new guys and Reigns-HHH it's a one match show from WWE's POV?
