  2. In this special 300th episode of the Place to Be Podcast, Scott and Justin share their memories and reflect on 300 episodes, the Place to Be Nation Staff competes in trivia Olympics, the saga of VKM is finally brought to a conclusion and so...me old friends of the show stop by. http://placetobenation.com/place-to-be-podcast-episode-300-an-extravaganza-three-years-in-the-making/
  3. I still maintain that babyface Del Rio could have worked but trying to make him a sympathetic character with the Swagger/Coulter stuff was a huge mis-read of a wrestling audience. I'm ok with the finish - it was definitely different - but low and behold, they have a LMS rematch just a week or so later and sure enough they break out the "tie a man's feet together to win" trope. I loathe that LMS finish - and it's bad enough they throw LMS stips around like nothing. This one kicked off this feud. At least for continuity they did do callbacks IIRC.
  4. Low Ki rocking the Hitman video game character get-up here. While they did a lot of 1-on-1 stuff (which is totally the triple threat style), with the third guy outside the ring, I actually appreciated the logic they took to get there (it didn't hurt that they bumped like crazy to play up the spills and the reason they were outside for periods of time). In a WWE triple threat match it'll be Wrestler A hits Wrestler B and dumps him (usually with a pretty lame toss over the ropes). Wrestler C now wrestles Wrestler A. Here, when the outside guy would come back in, he would catch the stronger guy in the ring off guard - wiping him out as he tried a big move on his downed opponent. On paper it didn't make much sense at first. Why wouldn't you let that guy fire off another big move and then fight him? But thinking more, if you want to really lay the wood to an unsuspecting opponent, you do it when he's running full speed and not expecting it. Or at least that's how I reconciled Low Ki's (he did it the most) psychology. Prince Devitt being late on his cue to jump off the turnbuckle to break up Low Ki's pin was pretty glaring but otherwise, this was fun for what it was. Low Ki crashing and burning to play-up the extended time for Taguchi/Devitt was good. The speed was break-neck at times and executed well. Everybody got to dish out and take dangerous suplexes on their necks too.
  5. First match on the set - I've seen a little 2013 lucha (with Chad from later in the year). I'll completely raise my hand that sometimes the overly choreographed stuff can bug me (I completely get that it is the style) and they go at a very deliberate speed early which makes it stand out even more. I liked the logic around the first fall with Titan hitting some super snapmare/neckbreaker thing and then instantly grabbing a submission with pressure on the neck. Second fall is quick as expected but we get our first plancha after each guy takes turns running and flipping around at each other outside the ring. Polvora fires off a dropkick as Titan comes off the turnbuckle and grabs a leg submission to tie things up. I liked the pacing of the big moves here although nothing in this match was matching Titan's hurricanrana off the top rope to Polvora on the apron (landing on the apron himself). That was crazy. So was Titan taking a somersault bump off the turnbuckle to the outside prior to that. We get another big plancha from Polvora and are finally back in for traded two-counts (with no doubt the slowest counting referee ever). Like the subtle touch of kicking the guy in the head while you have him in a leg vice. before Polvora puts him away with a nasty brainbuster type thing which he holds onto for the pin. I really warmed to this one as it went on. Very cool
  6. In the fifth episode of The Kevin Kelly Show, the Voice of Ring of Honor speaks with Adam Pearce about his time as booker of Ring of Honor, his early days wrestling, his potential gig with the San Diego Padres and much more. Kevin also shares his thoughts on Daniel Bryan and WrestleMania, Ring of Honor, Future of Honor and more. As always, Kevin takes your ‪#‎AsKKevin‬ Twitter questions as well. http://placetobenation.com/the-kevin-kelly-show-episode-5-featuring-adam-pearce/
  7. Yeah he is strictly anti-Republican (right wing ones for sure). Now that doesn't necessarily mean he's a Democrat although he is a very vocal supporter of Obama.
  8. PTBN link - includes Titans TV link to footage http://placetobenation.com/titans-of-wrestling-23-continental-wrestling/
  9. They had to make this permanent triple threat change - even from just a marketing and PR standpoint. I'll tell you what, the crowd was a little too juiced when HHH made the announcement that if he won he'd be in the main event. Now watch him put the belt on himself at Extreme Rules

    Current WWE

That was the real juice HHH needed in this feud. Just the right time too with only a couple weeks left to build. Real talk though: the YES chants aren't nearly as loud or strong as they were months ago it seems.
  11. What I really enjoyed about this encounter was that, while Reigns was as strong as ever and got to his some of his highspots (including the drop kick to the apron landing on the outside, which was sweet), it was Rollins who got to hit his finish clean and get the pinfall. Reigns looked great, the Rhodes Brothers were great and Rollins was elevated (imo) a bit in the process with the finish.
  12. In their stores FYE ran a big deal post-holidays where they were $10 and buy one get one free. As others have noted - if you drift into the scratch logo years you get blurring and they beep the "f" in WWF.
  13. Yeah FYE already dropped those to $10 buy 1 get 1 for an extended period. The market itself should dictate a lot of those coming down in price. I need to check out eBay and see how some of the more rarer releases (like Judgment Day 2002 and Vengeance 2002) have fared price-wise.
  14. Not yet but they have been adding more WCCW shows each week.
  15. This is exactly the question I was going to come in and pose. The best current example would be SummerSlam 2013. Three good matches - with two of those being MOTYCs. Does the in-ring work quality boost the next buyrate or is it really just the booking.
  16. Pretty sure he does all the Orioles games. Definitely still does pucks right?
  17. I wouldn't know different if this wasn't still the plan but the idea with the WCW PPV Match set is that there will be subsequent volumes, like they did for Nitro. FWIW, I have no issue with the triple cage war games match being on that set. Hey, we're completists. They haven't completely abandoned Blu-ray here although, as noted, both the Best of Raw & Smackdown 2013 AND the Best of 2013 PPV sets were not offered in blu ray for the first time in four years. That was disappointing. I doubt they'll ever go back to non big 3 shows on blu-ray - they tried exclusive BR releases with Best Buy on EC, Payback, MitB. I can't imagine they sold well. Their "After Raw" Dark Match comp, as well as the more recent comps like Shawn and the WCW one will have BR versions though.
  18. Emma mainly And maybe "bury" is dramatic. I mean, he always mentions it took four guys to eliminate Rusev from the Royal Rumble. So maybe it's just very paint-by-numbers heel commentator stuff. Just doesn't seem constructive.
  19. And today he can't be bothered to not bury NXT wrestlers that he's the alleged authority figure of.
  20. In this new episode of the Place to Be Podcast, Scott & Justin are in the Vintage Vault to talk Vengeance 2001. They discuss RVD, The Undertaker, Ric Flair, Chris Jericho, The Rock, Kurt Angle, Stone Cold Steve Austin and the tournament to crown the first Undisputed champion. http://placetobenation.com/place-to-be-podcast-episode-297-vengeance-2001/
  21. Kudos to all three of you.
  22. Big Bang Theory re-runs and really crappy new comedies.
  23. Was the set ever discussed on DVDVR or anything? It's so impressive, plus such a labor of love - feel like it deserves something like you're suggesting. I'd like to muddle through it also eventually.

  25. Crowd is amped to cheer for Punk and they go nuts when his music hits. Not the same as Money in the Bank 2011 but pretty darn close. Punk eats it up. He’s dressed to go too, quelling any fears he’d show up and not wrestle. Chain wrestling to start and the crowd boos Jericho. Solid “feeling out” segment to start from both guys. Very methodical so far. They are wrestling this match like it’s slated to go 25 minutes, which would get no complaints here. Lawler notes that Punk looks winded and that his layoff could be playing a part. What wrestling savant alien has taken over his body tonight? Jericho locks in the Walls but Punk counters into the Anaconda Vice. Punk calls for the GTS with Punk screaming “Blackhawks in 7″ before Jericho blocks it. Tremendous. Jericho counters another GTS into a roll-up that nearly gets three. Punk was slightly distracted by Heyman being on the apron there. Possible foreshadowing there. Punk hits the Savage elbow AND the GTS but Jericho kicks out. King notes that Punk didn’t get all of the GTS, which is entirely accurate. Crowd chants “One more time” and Punk pulls him up for another GTS that Jericho fights out of. Codebreaker is blocked with Punk then diving onto Jericho through the ropes to the outside. Punk comes off the top rope but Jericho hits the Codebreaker in mid-air. Not enough to put Punk away. “This is awesome” chants now. Jericho counters a rana from Punk into the Walls. Heyman pleads with Punk to not tap out. Punk muscles out, fires off some punches and hits a GTS, and then ANOTHER GTS, which gets the pin. Nice comeback match for Punk.
