  1. I mentioned earlier on this thread that the tana match was the only one that interested me, but based on the feedback I did not bother watching it. The main event was the only match I watched from the show and it just felt so lethargic for the first 15 min, and not at all a drama filled epic that they were going for, even though I do think it was better than last year's main event. Full thoughts on the match are in the match thread. However, everything with the cobra clutch was great I loved that little sequence. As for the booking decision he did do it before at wk7 and 9 when everyone thought that okada would win. Here though it felt worse because while I have no investment in naito I have seen far more visceral support for him to an overwhelming level where he just had to win. Will he never be this hot again? That remains to be seen but for the moment it looks like a poor decision. Unlike the okada losses to tana, here it is obvious that okada is not losing the position of ace any time soon and he is a good 6 years younger than naito. I could see naito becoming the nakamura to okada's tanahashi, winning the g1 winning the title but never really being the guy.
  2. The commentators make the point of talking about star ratings, I hate this already. Start is slow and the normal predictable okada fare. Hits his dropkick so naito falls to outside. naito does some neck work on the guardrail and apron. Bunch more neck breakers. Okada hits a DDT for comeback, at this point ten mins in it feels very dry and not very involving, just feels like doing stuff because you have to have some body part work to have a great match or so the njpw main event formula says. Okada running around the ring and delivering a boot looks funny in those bell bottoms, he is impressively quick though. Okada hits a railing to floor DDT nasty stuff. Naito back on offence with the very next move hit guess what it was another neck breaker. 15 mins gone. Okada back on offence.hits his elbow. A ton of reversals into a cobra clutch it was a really good sequence best of the match. Naito gets back on offence with more neckbreakers, super reverse Rana gets a two for the first big pin attempt 20 mins in, from here we move towards the finishing stretch, with a Gloria followed by a missed pheonix splash which don calls an old school move, bit confused by that one. Strike exchange, they both have poor strikes. Big missile dropkick missed by okada, okada just gets up hits a head-drop german and the hits the first rainmaker of the match. Absolutely no suspense on that rainmaker kickout. Okada starts stalking his prey but looks like such a vacent goof while doing so. back to the cobra clutch. Reversed into a destino, not pin attempt, naito struggling on the first cobra clutch but breaking out of this one with his finish was a nice evolution over the course of the match. 30 mins have gone. Another strike exchange, this one is much meatier, okada loses it. Some nuts tornado reverse DDT thing gets a two count. Okada hits a rainmaker, no cover. Naito hits a destino, gets two. Dropkick from okada, tombstone rain maker reversed into destino, trys another reversed into tombstone one more rainmaker gets the three. This match could be summed up the same way as every okada title match of this run baring the shibata match: 1. Way to long 2. First 15-20mins were completely superfluous to the match as a whole, only there to pad the run time. 3. Some very good chemistry between the workers in terms of all the spots being hit well. 4. A couple of nuts moments such as the railing DDT and the super reverse Rana. 5. The dancing around one another at the finish Unlike the omega matches this had a much simpler finishing run with far better selling and more time given for moves to breathe, at least more than they were in the omega matches even though the work on okada's neck didn't really get sold by him as if his neck was hurting. On the whole this was an ok match that followed the normal formula but was nothing special, I had no built in interest in naito so to people who did may have found more suspense in this than I did. Around the ***1/4 mark.
  3. I have heard of both teams here, but I dont think that I have seen any of their stuff before. Then I realise that one of the members of the Sumerian death squad is tommy end aka Alistair black and I know I am in safe hands. We start with some shoot inspired mat work with end schooling one of the crists. Dante tags in, he looks like a beefy guy, I like him already some nice double teams. End back in, crists take over with a double team codebreaker and qudabra thing. End takes back over with a kick to the gut. Dante in clubs one of the crists. Quick tags beating him up. Jake makes comeback and tags in Dave, he hits a bunch of moves and then some dives. I think Dante screamed Fus Ro Dah at one point. He takes back over. Dante has his nose bust open somehow. Another comeback from the crists, cut off by high kick into German by end, retaliation from Jake with his own kick into tiger suplex, broken up . End knocks Dave out. Nasty double stomp from end. Super rana countered into a double stomp tombstone piledriver WTF. Gets the three count. I really enjoyed this, it was not an epic but at the same time felt like it could have been if it was the same story but three times the length as it felt like an epic tag match from ajpw in the Olympians era compressed into ten mins. There was zero down time and it flew by. End was violent, dante was stiff and looked badass with blood all over his face, the crists were good as a team taking a kicking but able to make quick comebacks with their innovative offense the look of them was very 80s Crockett just with extra tattoos. They finally were able to string a few moves together one of them being a nuts finisher to get the win. The only problem I see with the match was that due to it being so condensed nothing was given any time and it was back and forth very quick, there were some nasty moves such as the kicks from end or the tiger suplex that were done and then ignored, I would have liked a little more time given to selling these moves, but at its short length it was not a major problem at all. For a star rating I would go around ***1/2 it was very good a damm good upper midcard match I would like to see more of the death squad as they impressed me as a team here, can anyone recomend me any of their stuff
  4. In turn, sir, I present you with a match that actually reminds me more of a late 80s tag than a more modern one, with its production and the moves used being what betrays how recent it is. Sumerian Death Squad vs. OI4K, CZW WrestleCon 2012 I have heard of both teams here, but I dont think that I have seen any of their stuff before. Then I realise that one of the members of the Sumerian death squad is tommy end aka Alistair black and I know I am in safe hands. 5. There is a song called 'me and Stephen hawking' by manic Street Preachers a band I am quite fond of as you may be able to tell by my username. In this song it has the line " 100,000 watched giant haystacks in a Bombay fight"
  6. I know you are being facetious but I fully expect the main to be given more than five stars, probably something silly like *****1/2
  7. Probably just going to watch the tana match a few days after the show, as for the rest of the card it does not interest me. Naito and okada did have a great match once back in 2012 but since then the way the main event last year went I don't see my self enjoying that match, and unlike some more hardcore njpw fans I have no investment in the naito character. Jay white is interesting though just to see how he gets on, I expect him to be led by tana in the match (not carried but led) hopefully he gets more comfortable after his dreadful promo he cut a few days ago.
  8. For my trade with laz, I have gone for a safe bet based on his fondness for blood filled, story brawls and have gone for the first meeting of the funks Vs the sheik and Abby in ajpw on 15/12/77 https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bwpbsa8C2iSmRXhKX2lCREh6cHM/view?usp=drivesdk
  9. Go to more shows basically, I went to a grand total of zero last year This year I already have two booked, the 20th-21st of Jan in Swindon, to see kento miyahara and Yuma ayoagi first UK dates.
  10. It can be said that dragon gate is only as good as the heel unit is. The heels are always the most important unit as they are the ones that the faces play off. In 2010 you had deep drunkers who had evolved out of real hazerd who were themselves not a very great heel group. Because of these poor heel groups 2009-late 2010 is seen as a low point for dragon gate. It will be interesting to see how you try to fix this.
  11. I don't have any subscription services at the moment I subscribe every few months to watch what I care about and then unsubscribe.
  12. Sounds like it could be fun
  13. I would say 84 through 87 is a great run in terms of matches with the savage, orndorff and Kamala runs. But I certainly agree that the general perception (outside of pwo type spheres) is that he was really over but sucked as a wrestler and politiked himself to stay at the top. A lot of that stems from more watching his 90s run in WWF and wcw rather than going back to the msg shows, or if people do stray into the 80s just look at the supercards not the house shows.
  14. From the wrestling I watch (in order of most watched), ajpw, DG, wwe, noah, njpw, cwf, bjw, stardom, Sendai girls, cmll, and then some one off matches in promotions such as AAA, barcel entertainment, ddt, tna and some other stuff. My favourite wrestler of the year is kento miyahara, as for being the best wrester looking at things more analytical it is between kento, shuji ishikawa, reigns and maybe big r shimizu. Kento is in my top three matches of the year so you may think him, but I don't think he is the best worker in those matches, I think shuji is better in the two world title matches. Someone like Trevor lee has maybe the most consistent high level of work in cwf but I don't think he has as much stuff as kento or reigns does if you count it up. Big r is an interesting one as he is a big boss working in dragon gate, a promotion of flippy JR's, he worked really well as a base for the smaller guys to bounce off he had yamato's best match in king of gate and the match with mochizuki was a great heated match which went exactly as long as it should have clocking in at 14 mins in a very un-dragon gate style match. He also works really well as the big brother in the tag matches with the likes of kotoka. Ishikawa is amazing he is in his mid 40s now but in the best run of his life, just comming in and winning the cc beating kento to end his company changing run, turning Jake lee into a believable main eventer after fans being not 100% believing in him before that and having suwamas best match since 2013 maybe. Before having my match of the year with kento at sumo hall. He was consistent in the tags and had a good run in he tag tourny teaming with suwama before the great match with kento and yoshihashi. Reigns has already been talked about, very consistent with the Braun feud and just a generally good TV worker. I guess that I would probably go with kento as wrestler of the year due to both his matches but also how he connects with the crowd as a babyface ace to the younger kids and at the same time he can put in arrogant performances when it seems that the opponent is more over on the night. It's his ace work that puts him over the top for me. Sorry for that being so long and rambling.
  15. And ICOPRO. And The World. Now that would be a WWE Universe. Bring back WWE New York
  16. I thought it went maybe 10 mins to long and that the selling at the end of the match (or lack thereof) was bad but i am not completely down on this match as i thought the first ten mins were really amazing. cage was not selling a thing but that was the point at this time in the match, he was the monster and completely powerd through anything the upjumped jr could throw at him. But I think it should have ended around 15 mins with nakijima making a big comebback before knocking cage out with a head kick. But no they kept going hit a slew of moves and head-drops and did not bother selling them as cage goes from glassy-eyed and knocked out to running and doing dead lifts in a matter of seconds which is omega level awful selling. This was a huge letdown in the latter half. But it was nearly really great, big shame **3/4
  17. Here's the arrest report: https://twitter.com/GainesvillePD/status/939852538026872839/photo/1 Not a good look when your statement to the police is contradicted by two eyewitnesses. Also, the fact that she was willing to jump out of a moving car to get away from him leads me to believe that this wasn't the first incident. "The Vic stated they were afraid of the Def as he has a temper sometimes." Is a very sinister line.
  18. Clash of champions, roadblock? We had those last year and I don't think they have happened yet this year
  19. Rich swan may not be in wwe any longer now if this is upheld: http://www.mugshotsgainesville.com/Details.aspx?BookingID=ASO17JBN008034 The second charge here while called kidnapping in the title can also refer to keeping someone in a house by force and is regularly used as a charge against domestic abusers.
  20. Let it never saw the light of day. Please. Apparently it was the wwe big match formula and jinder was put over because he got to kick out of 3 pedigrees while hhh kicked out of one of jinders finishes at least that is what someone on Reddit thought the idea behind that was. Also post match there are photos of jinder shaking hands with hhh and bowing to him like he is the conqueror. It is all very Triple H https://imgur.com/a/P5rwp I was there live. He kicked out of one pedigree. Jinder never hit his finisher. Triple H beat him despite interfenece from the Singh brothers. It was a jumbled mess in a way because both took turns playing heel, and it confused the crowd a bit, esp because for many of them it was their first live event. By the end they were randomly cheering spots. The pop for the entrance was massive but the heat died out a bit in the match. Unlike the Shield match, where the Shield got such a tremendous pop Roman could not stop smiling, and the crowd was extremely hot throughout the match. You could tell easily that the participants were really pleased about the crowd reaction to their match. He was put over by Hunter cutting a promo after the match saying Jinder has earned his respect and India is in good hands because Jinder is great no matter what the haters say. He followed that by dancing with Jinder and the Singh brothers before pedigreeing one of them and leaving. Jinder closed the show by cutting a promo thanking us. Colour me corrected, thanks for the information.

  22. Nope, hhh won in Delhi not Abu Dhabi After 7months of build for jinder hhh goes over in India.
  23. I am currently living in Cardiff because I am at uni. But I am from a town a few miles from yeovil, I do remember seeing some posters for a show there featuring del Rio and mastiff (don't remember seeing riddle on the poster) I must have seen the poster just before I left so around September time. They may have been the posters for the that show last weekend. I do have foggy memories going back a few years of seeing Wrestling advertised as to taking place in yeovil. I remember Jim duggan, bubblegum and a bunch of British guys the sort you would see in futureshock or groups like that. I think Kenny omega was advertised maybe three years ago. I never went to any of these shows but I do remember the posters in Windows or on lampposts in the town centre. According to official records the business was set up 1 year 6 months ago and is based in yeovil town centre.
  24. Drooling intensity increasing
  25. This is going to be fun. Cant wait for some people (not on pwo) to say he shoud get in on work alone because he has objectivly the four best matches of all time, and the extreme backlash against it. Something Goc, trevor danes, Cheapshot and I all mentioned on twitter was that arn/tully and JJ recived 49% based on one year of work together which seems just silly, without JJ they went three years as a team. Comes across as voting for favorites and not on criteria. I think it may have been cheapshot who said that they got a large amount from wrestlers both retierd and currently active which does make sense as you often hear that they are extremly respected by wrestlers.
