  1. I would agree that 1/4 has been *THE* big show for New Japan, and probably has been since 1993. All Japan, I would say would be the June "Super Power Series" Budokan show. As for the last few years, I would guess the finals of the Champion Carnival or Tag League. In the territories, I would say most likely Christmas night.
  2. He wrestled Cheeseburger Saturday night. That alone should be enough indication that they're already out of good ideas.
  3. Well, he's moved on from being Canada's Greatest Athlete. Now he's Heaven's Greatest Athlete!
  4. I thought Ryback's promo explaining why he turned heel and attacked Cena was very well done. James Storm's victory speech when he won the TNA Title.
  5. In addition to his HOF wrestling career, The Hangman is also a two sport star, as he's also active on the competitive eating circuit. http://eatfeats.com/query.php?_table=eaters&id=250
  6. I think it was mostly intended as a bit of a gotcha to the fans. One of the storylines was that Hogan and UT got preferential treatment in the drawing and would get a number from 20-30, and, it was mentioned on TV at least once, that Flair also has a good chance of getting a high number.
  7. I liked the babyface run of 1998-99, when I was fifteen and sixteen years old. Hell, I bought and regularly wore the "Mr. Ass" T-Shirt. But, after Billy Gunn turned heel I was already proclaiming DX to be "dead" with the ranks dwindled to Road Dogg and X-Pac. The late '99-00 heel run is a perfect example of something overstaying its welcome.
  8. I just rewatched the Flair/Bischoff match from the 12/28/98 Nitro. As a sixteen year old Four Horsemen mark, I was going absolutely nuts for this.
  9. If a chickenshit heel whopped your ass in a bar fight, and then you saw him on TV the next week getting *HIS* ass kicked by a babyface, then you'll know exactly how tough that babyface must be.
  10. And remember that Orndorff basically whipped Vader's ass with one arm And he did while wearing flip flops!
  11. No, because Hogan sent his good friend Brother Bruti (who had betrayed him the year before, mind you) into the DOD as a secret spy!
  12. Bix, I liked this one even more the the Cornette episode..
  13. Before we all get too excited about Nakamura. Let's not forget when the WWE supposedly signed Averno. . . . . .
  14. Something that just came to mind. When the heart attack angle does come up, you should at least mention the fact that Kevin has adamantly denied (for years now) that they never planned for the angle to go that way. They were just supposed to attack Fritz to add more heat to the latest redux of Freebirds/Von Erichs. But, when Fritz collapsed, the fans just jumped to that conclusion and it blew up (again, according to Kevin)
  15. The first two things that popped into my head were the Fritz heart attack angle, and the autographed pics of David. The Larry Sweeney/Bobby Dempsey/Alison Danger "Ring of On-Her" angle deserves mention as well.
  16. Does the Briscoes and Yano teaming up mean that Jay and Mark are part of CHAOS? If they do sign A.J. I wonder if he gets to keep his name, seeing as he's got the huge tattoo on his stomach.
  17. I don't see the big deal in Colby getting a spot. The whole point of the TPT, in theory, is that these young and hungry wrestlers full of P&V want to prove themselves and earn a spot in ROH. Colby fits the bill of a young wrestler, who hasn't really had a chance to show what he can do yet. So what's the problem?
  18. Guys, I just pulled Bundy's name out of my ass for my hypothetical scenario.
  19. Jay Cutler got suplexed a couple of weeks ago against the 49ers.
  20. I'm sure that I saw the one with HTM shoving Liz, butI don't distinctly remember watching it as a youngster. But I definitely remember the following show. Steele/Davis, Hogan/Sika (probably the earliest that I can recall the business being exposed, with that stupid spot where Hogan tries to running headlock Sika into the post, only to get pushed in himself), and Savage/Hart with Randy's big bump to the floor. My grandfather would occasionally tape it, when it was on (Hogan vs Bad News) and I once watched it the next day at a neighbor's house (Brainbusters' title win). When I got a little older, my dad would let me stay up to watch starting with the Jan/Feb 1990 with the Hogan/Warrior angle. When I was nine and it moved to Fox starting at 8:00, it just wasn't the same.
  21. 1984 was Mid South's best year for business, so that's the short answer, which others already covered in great detail. What I think is getting slept on though, is how much better a deal that Watts got in the talent trade with Jarrett. Watts got Bobby and Dennis, Ricky and Robert, Terry Taylor, and Bill Dundee. All of whom already had at least five years experience and were developed as workers. Cornette only had about a year, but he'd had the chance to work in Georgia as well as work with, and learn from, Jimmy Hart, so he wasn't fresh off the boat or anything. Jarrett did some good stuff with Rude, but he was a few years away from becoming a good worker. Neither Higgins or Neidhart ever got very good. Denton and Anthony's Memphis run was rather unremarkable compared to how the rest of their careers panned out, and they were back with Watts by 1985.
  22. Why wouldn't Vince want to avoid a potential headache? Bret is still the top babyface when he's dropping the title. If Nash flops, what other options does he have? Lex was damaged goods. Bulldog, Razor and Kid aren't on that level. UT is over, but not very good in the ring. And now Vince has pissed off Bret by making him put over King Kong Bundy (just for instance, I have no idea how Bret felt about him), to start up the failed Diesel experiment. So, Bret is now pissed and wants to head down South or just sit out the contract. Or, Vince can just let Bret have his way, knowing that it's a few days and if something goes wrong, he has Bret to pick up the pieces.
  23. Hogan went to Japan and worked the 5/3 Dontaku show. He gave a rather infamous interview trashing (proverbially, not literally like Madusa) the WWF Title, and calling it a toy and trinket. It's not on Youtube, but I know I've seen it somewhere.
  24. JC addressed this on his last podcast. He had apologized to Alice for making her uncomfortable, and admitted that he was purposely overdoing it to make for entertaining radio and to mess with her. He didn't have anything negative to say about her, which means that he must not have heard the I Quit podcast. She didn't mention him by name, but made mention of dealing with 'closet racists' and also only named MVP and Alex Greenfield as people she had nothing negative to say about. I listened to the Muslim rant again tonight, and there are a few times that you can tell that Jim is trying to have a little fun.
