I've been watching PWG for a couple of years now. I started after hearing that they had done a couple of Generico/Claudio matches, since this was right around the time that Cesaro/Zayn was all the rage. I've some stuff that I absolutely hated (Loss and I both commented in the match discussion thread about how shitty the 2013 DDT4 final match was). But, I also saw more than enough fun and good, that I didn't want to completely write them off. I think Savage was spot on with his comment about less being more with angles. The big angle last year was the re-emergence of the Mount Rushmore stable. But, when the seeds were planted at DDT4, with Strong attacking Candice and Joey, everyone assumed that it was just a vehicle to give Roddy someone to feud with over the title.

They finished up 1998 and are more than halfway done with 1999 for Nitro. One of the last things to go up was the 9/14 Nitro with Flair's return, which should have been one of the first. For as much as Tony's hyperbole gets mocked, his proclamation of Flair's return and subsequent promo probably is the greatest moment in the history of that TV show.

I always had access to Smackdown, no matter part of NY I lived in, even when the original pilot aired in 1999. The only issue I ever knew of was when station cut away from the Jericho/Edge cage match (literally less than a minute before the finish, since Edge was already perched on top and was just getting ready to do the spear).

I would agree that 1/4 has been *THE* big show for New Japan, and probably has been since 1993. All Japan, I would say would be the June "Super Power Series" Budokan show. As for the last few years, I would guess the finals of the Champion Carnival or Tag League. In the territories, I would say most likely Christmas night.

He wrestled Cheeseburger Saturday night. That alone should be enough indication that they're already out of good ideas.

Great promos and angles from the last 15 years

I thought Ryback's promo explaining why he turned heel and attacked Cena was very well done. James Storm's victory speech when he won the TNA Title. -

In addition to his HOF wrestling career, The Hangman is also a two sport star, as he's also active on the competitive eating circuit. http://eatfeats.com/query.php?_table=eaters&id=250 -
I think it was mostly intended as a bit of a gotcha to the fans. One of the storylines was that Hogan and UT got preferential treatment in the drawing and would get a number from 20-30, and, it was mentioned on TV at least once, that Flair also has a good chance of getting a high number.

I liked the babyface run of 1998-99, when I was fifteen and sixteen years old. Hell, I bought and regularly wore the "Mr. Ass" T-Shirt. But, after Billy Gunn turned heel I was already proclaiming DX to be "dead" with the ranks dwindled to Road Dogg and X-Pac. The late '99-00 heel run is a perfect example of something overstaying its welcome.

I just rewatched the Flair/Bischoff match from the 12/28/98 Nitro. As a sixteen year old Four Horsemen mark, I was going absolutely nuts for this.

Bill Watts and wrestlers in bar fights
MikeCampbell replied to pantherwagner's topic in Pro Wrestling
If a chickenshit heel whopped your ass in a bar fight, and then you saw him on TV the next week getting *HIS* ass kicked by a babyface, then you'll know exactly how tough that babyface must be. -

No, because Hogan sent his good friend Brother Bruti (who had betrayed him the year before, mind you) into the DOD as a secret spy! -

Bix, I liked this one even more the the Cornette episode.. -
Before we all get too excited about Nakamura. Let's not forget when the WWE supposedly signed Averno. . . . . .

Something that just came to mind. When the heart attack angle does come up, you should at least mention the fact that Kevin has adamantly denied (for years now) that they never planned for the angle to go that way. They were just supposed to attack Fritz to add more heat to the latest redux of Freebirds/Von Erichs. But, when Fritz collapsed, the fans just jumped to that conclusion and it blew up (again, according to Kevin)
-
The first two things that popped into my head were the Fritz heart attack angle, and the autographed pics of David. The Larry Sweeney/Bobby Dempsey/Alison Danger "Ring of On-Her" angle deserves mention as well.

Does the Briscoes and Yano teaming up mean that Jay and Mark are part of CHAOS? If they do sign A.J. I wonder if he gets to keep his name, seeing as he's got the huge tattoo on his stomach.

I don't see the big deal in Colby getting a spot. The whole point of the TPT, in theory, is that these young and hungry wrestlers full of P&V want to prove themselves and earn a spot in ROH. Colby fits the bill of a young wrestler, who hasn't really had a chance to show what he can do yet. So what's the problem?

Saturday Night's Main Event Appreciation
MikeCampbell replied to The Following Contest's topic in Pro Wrestling
I'm sure that I saw the one with HTM shoving Liz, butI don't distinctly remember watching it as a youngster. But I definitely remember the following show. Steele/Davis, Hogan/Sika (probably the earliest that I can recall the business being exposed, with that stupid spot where Hogan tries to running headlock Sika into the post, only to get pushed in himself), and Savage/Hart with Randy's big bump to the floor. My grandfather would occasionally tape it, when it was on (Hogan vs Bad News) and I once watched it the next day at a neighbor's house (Brainbusters' title win). When I got a little older, my dad would let me stay up to watch starting with the Jan/Feb 1990 with the Hogan/Warrior angle. When I was nine and it moved to Fox starting at 8:00, it just wasn't the same.
