DGinnetty
Chris, I though we already got the uncut 4/19/86 match from Barnett or someone? Dan
Tabe
Barnett got us the raw footage from 1987. Any uncut stuff from 1986 is not circulated (to my knowledge).
peachchaos
If more Mid Atlantic TV ever shows up, one thing I'd love to see even highlights of would be the Flair-Steamboat Hair vs. Title Cage Match for the US Championship from 12/31/78, where Steamer finally beats him for the title. TravJ1979
Does any footage exist of the Memphis Texas Death match that happened the week after the 26 falls version? It was a Texas Death Match elimination match 3/
BBscout
I really want to do a list by territory and country now too, instead of only having the chronological one on the original post of the thread. If anybody can put together like a Japan one, a Mexico one, etc, post it up in here and I can compile them all to the front.
elliott
There are so many lucha matches that making a list is genuinely depressing. These are ALL Luchas de Apuestas (Hair/Mask) matches: Perro Aguayo vs Karloff Lagarde 6/8/74 Perro Aguayo vs Ringo Mendoza x2 5/25/75 and 5/16/76 Perro Aguayo vs El Santo 10/3/75 Perro Aguayo vs El Faraon 9/24/76 Perro Aguayo vs El Solitario 9/10/76 Perro Aguayo vs Rene Guajardo 6/29/76 Perro Aguayo vs Tony Salazr 9/17/82 Perro Aguayo vs Negro Navarro 5/27/83 Perro Aguayo vs El Texano 7/15/83 Perro Aguayo vs Villano III 8/21/83 Perro Aguayo vs El Faraon 10/26/86 Perro Aguayo vs Sangre Chicana 2/15/87 Perro Aguayo vs vs Babe Face 12/6/87 Perro Aguayo vs vs Sangre Chicana 12/20/87 Perro Aguayo vs Ultraman 7/16/88 Perro Aguayo vs vs Sangre Chicana 1/27/89 Sangre Chicana vs FIshman 9/23/77 Sangre Chicana & Alfonso Dantes vs El Faraon & Ringo Mendoza 4/22/78 Sangre Chicana vs Gran Cochise 10/19/79 Sangre Chicana & Satanico vs Ringo Mendoza & Cachorro Mendoza Sangre Chicana vs El Satanico 6/?/82 Sangre Chicana vs El Satanico 12/10/82 (Draw, both lose hair) Sangre Chicana vs Tony Salazar 8/5/84 Sangre Chicana vs Tony Benetto 3/31/85 Sangre Chicana vs El Faraon 3/7/86 Sangre Chicana vs Ultraman ?/?/87 Sangre Chicana vs La Fiera 11/?/87 With Satanico, literally all of his matches from the 70s/80s are Holy Grails to me. But these two jump off the page the most (Ignoring the matches against Chicana alreadylisted): El Satanico vs Mocho Cota 9/26/80 El Satanico vs La Fiera 9/16/83 (one week before the famous Chicana/MS-1 match) I mean, there are literally 1000s of Lucha Holy Grails for me. I would hit a small child if it meant we could have as much LUcha from the 50s/60s/70s/80s as we do in the US or Japan.
ShittyLittleBoots
Bryan Danielson vs. Minoru Suzuki from 07/20/04 has to be at the top of my list. Bryan has said he thought it was one of the best matches of his career.
Cap
I am relatively new to Lucha (been watching 80s and 90s only within the last year or so), but honestly everything Sangre Chicana is at the top of my list, especially the El Satanico stuff. I love the two matches between them I have seen. When Sagre Chicana was on he was absolute fire.
BBscout
Take a look at the first post of the thread if you haven't in a while. http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/15404-holy-grails/?p=5494479&do=findComment&comment=5494479 Over the years this turned into a list more about unaired footage than holy grails. I bolded the ones that seem to have gotten the most hype around them over the years and seem to be considered grails more than others. Need to expand on Japan and Mexico and get some UK, Stampede, Puerto Rico, New Zealand, Hawaii, etc. Really at this point it becomes asking if there are any big omissions on the current list...if there are post them up. peachchaos
Thanks for the list. Great resource. I know it's from th 1970's, but something that will we know the WWE has footage of is the first Battle of the Nature Boys from 1979. It was part of George Pantas' collection which was sold to WWE last year. Ric Flair vs. Buddy Rogers (Greensboro 7/8/1979) - could be from a different night as they had several matches but this is the famous one

Rah
Stan Hansen vs El Canek 9/30/84 Are you sure that this happened? The only encounter I know of between them is this one: EL CANEK Y DOS CARAS VS STAN HANSEN Y BABY FACE As for Hogan/Canek, I think the only matches taped are these: EL CANEK Y HULK HOGAN VS RIKI CHOSHU Y KILLER KHAN Hulk Hogan & Antonio Inoki VS Andre The Giant & Canek

Matt D
That one I have seen. It's the Steamboat matches that I'd get punched in the face by a low ranked UFC prelim fighter to see.
alexoblivion
A watchable version of the Bestia Salvaje/Hector Garza/Satanico hair match from 95 would be cool. There are some old comments on google.groups that confirm that the Emilio Charles Jr/Satanico hair match from 98 aired, so that's something that is probably attainable somehow. Not sure if these fit the holly grail criteria for everyone, but here's a list of matches that Cubsfan has airing that, at the moment, are not widely circulating: Dr Wagner vs Pierroth Jr. (4/2/93) Mocho Cota vs Ultimo Dragon (11/19/93) Mano Negra vs Bestia Salvaje( 12/3/93) Mocho Cota vs Kato Kung Lee (12/10/93) Emilio Charles Jr. vs La Fiera (4/15/94) Javier Cruz vs. Americo Rocca (10/14/94) Atlantis vs Dr Wagner (12/17/95) Silver King vs La Fiera (3/21/97) That Cota/Dragon title match from 93 was on one of the lucha comps that Paul Herzog put together in the 90's, so that seems like something that is attainable as well. jdw
Is there a match from Japan that is really sought after? Hundreds of them. The 05/19/63 Destroyer vs Rikidozan (Riki jobs in the 3rd fall to the figure four) and 05/24/63 Destroyer vs Rikidozan (DKO bloodbath that drew the insane "70 million" viewership). I'm not certain if the first one was on TV. Others: 02/28/66 NWA Int'l Title: Giant Baba vs Lou Thesz (21:13, 2:45, 0:51) Lou had just dropped the NWA Title and came over to put over Baba shortly after Baba won the Int'l title. Did it clean with a backdrop suplex. I've talked about the Giant Baba & Antonio Inoki vs Wilbur Snyder & Danny Hodge series in 1969: http://www.puroresu.com/jwa/results/jwa196901newyear.html 12/27/68 Tokyo - Kuramae Kokugikan (Friday) (First show of the new year) Michiaki Yoshimura (15min limit draw) Danny Hodge Antonio Inoki (15min limit draw) Wilbur Snyder Giant Baba (5:50 pin) Tom Jones 01/03/69 Tokyo - Kuramae Kokugikan (Friday) (First show of the new year) NWA Int'l Tag Title: Giant Baba & Antonio Inoki (1-1) Danny Hodge & Wilbur Snyder 1: Snyder (15:46 pin) Baba 2: Baba (17:53 pin) Snyder 3: (60min time limit) 01/09/69 Hiroshima - Pref. Gym (Saturday) Antonio Inoki DCOR Danny Hodge (14:25) NWA Int'l Title: Giant Baba (2-1) Wilbur Snyder 1: Baba (16:31 DQ) 2: Snyder (3:27 pin) 3: Baba (3:27 pin) 01/31/69 Tokyo - Korakuen Hall (Friday) Wilbur Snyder (2-1) Antonio Inoki 1: Snyder (11:03 pin) 2: Inoki (1:40 abdominal stretch) 3: Snyder (9:50 DQ) 02/04/69 Sapporo - Nakajima Sports Center (Tuesday) NWA Int'l Tag Title: Giant Baba & Antonio Inoki (2-1) Danny Hodge & Wilbur Snyder (title change) 1: Baba & Inoki (23:59 DQ) 2: Snyder (1:03 pin) Baba 3: Baba (2:59 abdominal stretch) Snyder 02/11/69 Akita - Pref. Gym (Tuesday) (final card of the Series) NWA Int'l Tag Title: Giant Baba & Antonio Inoki* (2-1) Danny Hodge & Wilbur Snyder 1: Snyder (21:32 pin) Inoki 2: Inoki (3:25 COR) Snyder 3: Inoki (3:42 octopus hold) Snyder I would think that a good deal of that was taped and/or live. It would be the best shot of seeing Snyder and Hodge as workers, especially if there were several of them to comp. Some nice, long matches there and something they thought was decent enough to run so often. I don't recall any tag match up for the belts getting worked over like that in the 60s. fxnj
Would also love to see Baba/Dory from Dory's same 1969 Japan tour as the Inoki match. Highlights from it seem to have aired on a Baba special in the early 80's.
elliott
John, what sort of Wahoo McDaniel in Japan is out there on tape/possibly on tape? Was also wondering about Johnny Valentine? Surely he had some runs in All Japan/New Japan/JWA before the plane crash? Which brings me full circle to the real Holy Grail: Wahoo vs Johnny Valentine - All Matches. khawk20
I am of the opinion that the Alburquerque title change did happen, based on my readings from the KM site a few years back and discussions with other AWA guys of the time frame. That it wasn't filmed at all is also a possibility. Raschke-Crusher's title win apparently wasn't either. Both would have been done "on the fyl" so to speak with people leaving the area holding the belts. It's not like Verne wouldn't make snap decisions or anything... I'd think if it was filmed it would have been to have clips for TV available. So yeah on the change happening for real, no on the filming of it IMO.
