Great interview with ROH COO Joe Koff.

He says all the right things, but as someone who has dipped his toe periodically into ROH a couple of times over the past year and walked away extremely unimpressed, I'm not sure how much of his words are based in reality.

I caught a bit of the Cody Rhodes promo about Roman Reigns' failed drug tests, etc. and had to turn it off. He comes across as someone cosplaying a top guy main event wrestler - like a kid dressing up in his daddy's clothes for Halloween (although, in this case, the proverbial daddy is more Flair than Dusty). Not an ounce of believability or legitimacy whatsoever. Sorry, folks, WWE didn't miss the boat on this guy at all.

That was embarrassing to watch, his promo had no flow or life to it just spewing a bunch of clichés "each and every one of you" really?

Also does he have an illness or problem with his voice or has it been that long since I last heard him speak?

For your sanity do not go to the comments of that video.

Catching up on TNA and Ring of Honor from last month or two, maybe this is an awful take but Cody Rhodes and Eli Drake as champions are really on the same level to me. Cody is a much better wrestler than Eli but Eli is a 10 times better at portraying himself as a heel champion.

if Ring of Honor wasn't the Bullet Club appreciation society then maybe Cody would be more effective as a heel but not sure.

I believe he has a lisp that sometimes shows up in his speaking. https://mobile.twitter.com/codyrhodes/status/804489475082645504?lang=en

Should have happened a year ago.

Should had happened 2 years ago.

He should have beaten Jay Lethal for the TV Title 2 years ago and then won the World Title a year ago. But I think we're on the same page. He is by far the biggest star in the promotion and he should have the belt.

Completely. I saw him live and overall the first time against Liger and was blown away. He's special and should had been treated as such from the beginning.

We'll see if it's too late to mean anything.

However, with Mayu (my favourite wrestler not named Becky Lynch) is coming in, how should I watch ROH?

They're supposedly getting a streaming service next year but I fully expect them to fuck it up.

I don't know how many people buy a wrestling PPV for $35 in 2017, but I'm guessing it is pretty close to zero. They leave money on the table every month that they don't have a streaming service.

I do believe you can watch the weekly TV on the Fite app, though.

You can. A lot of Fox affiliates are on Playstation Vue now and you can DVR it.

Ring of Honor has been painfully behind the times when it comes to pricing. They're charging prices for what DVDs and PPV cost 7 years ago when the average fan expects to follow a promotion for $9.99 or less a month.

I'm not a big Cody Rhodes fan & I too think Dalton should have won the ROH World Title a long time ago but I have to be honest, I kind of like the whole ROH ring & "kiss the ring" shit. I don't so much like how the fans buy into it like it's some funny thing when I think it should be a heelish thing like something a Ted DiBiase would make peasants do but I like the idea of it.

Catching the first ROH tv of 2018, I admit not being familiar with new ROH champ Dalton Castle, but he's interesting. Setting up Lethal as a contender who I like. Silas Young is the tv champ, not impressed. Simon Gotch is working as Simon Grimm, reminding me that I miss the Vaudevillans and that his best days are probably behind him. Briscoes calling out the Motor City Machine Guns, that should be fun. Main event is Flip Gordon vs Marty Scurll starting now.

Silas Young was one of the few wrestlers that impressed me in my sporadic ROH viewings. I place a higher value on having the total package though. In addition to being decent in the ring, he also has a fantastic character. Most of these other "super workers" that have no character, facials, or crowd interactions don't do a thing for me. Silas Young is one of the very few who could succeed on Raw or Smackdown.

BTW, this is not meant as a slight against any of the other wrestlers you mentioned - most of whom I haven't even seen yet - just my specific impressions of Young from a show I watched a few months ago.

As for Gotch, I get the impression from the few "shoot interview" clips I've seen is that he has a bad attitude and was his own worst enemy at times. Whether that's actually the case, who knows, but I don't think he's doing himself any favors by sticking to his failed WWE gimmick. It just makes him look like a big league castoff instead of someone fresh and interesting who has been revitalized on the indy scene. For all of the criticisms I and others have leveled against Cody Rhodes, the one thing you cannot argue is that he has changed things up and raised his stock. Grimm seems to be doing more of the same ol' same ol' that didn't exactly work for him in the first place.

I might have to dig up some more matches as it could have been the opponent instead of him. I had basically the same thoughts on Grimm, thought he worked best as part of the Vaudvillians. By himself something is missing doing the same stuff.

My biggest problem with Silas Young, I've said it in this very thread, is that he doesn't wrestle like his character. An aerial move for that guy should be a dropkick. He has a great character and I love that he isn't afraid to just have the fans hate him but holy shit dude, think about what you do in the ring.
