Jimmy Redman Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 They were clearly beginning to do Punk-Hunter on TV before Punk left. They were trying to persist with babyface Dave for a while too. The Sheamus match sounded preposterous, but that doesn't mean they weren't doing it.
Strummer Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 until verified I won't believe this was the plan from the beginning. No way.
Mini Bennett Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Basically what CM Funk said. And that WWE turned Bryan back AS SOON as they thought the crowd might grow indifferent towards him with Wyatt stuff, while making Bray in the process.
anarchistxx Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Specifically I'm referring to the two match plan where he beats HHH to get the shot. To be fair I mentioned that weeks ago as well, probably around the RR time. The symetry with Wrestlemania 10 was obvious. Also, Punk had nothing really to do with Daniel Bryan getting into the main event. He was getting these crazy reactions way before Punk had left, just watch the Rumble match. It has been the logical conclusion since Summerslam, but the crowd forced their hand to actually do it. Most likely he would have beaten corporate Sheamus and got in the main event that way. No chance they would have stayed with Batista vs Orton as the main given the reactions.
SteveJRogers Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 I remember reading that Bryan was marrying Brie the day after Wrestlemania. If he's not going to be on the post-'Mania RAW, would they put the title on him? Maybe he can still make the show & get written off TV for his honeymoon? Will Triple H & Stephanie be invited to the wedding so pictures can pop-up on social media & completely kill any kayfabe that is left? Why would two on screen employees of a television company that produces live TV shows every Monday night schedule a wedding to happen the same day of a Monday night? Especially one of the annually biggest ones of the year? No matter how unconventional the groom might be, that does sound a bit insane to do.
anarchistxx Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Surely they are going to work the wedding into some sort of angle? Marriage + babyface title coronation on the Raw after Wrestlemania sounds perfect. It also allows Batista/Lesnar or whoever is challenging after Wrestlemania to get into some shenanigans and start the feud. I wonder if HHH is considering coming out of semi-retirement for a post mania title program with Daniel Bryan?

Plus, didn't he already post Twitter pics of the wedding?
Matt D Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 All I'm going to say is that he better damn well invite Jake to the bachelor party before the HOF.

Cross Face Chicken Wing Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 I'm not sure Tennessee was the proper state to do an "occupy" angle, but I enjoyed it. Still can't believe how great HHH has been the last couple of weeks. Steph was also excellent last night. Now this angle needs a solid pull-apart brawl or two.....
Marty Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 I'm not sure Tennessee was the proper state to do an "occupy" angle, but I enjoyed it. I wonder if the writing of it, given the setting, was influenced by Kane. Or perhaps a rib on Kane.
El-P Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 So, I watched *that* segment. Terrific angle. Quite efficient delivery from Stephy & Hunter. Great visual. Great way to put over the merchandise too. They totally lucked into this one much like with Austin at WM13. Now, of they don't put the title on Bryan at WM, they're fucking insane. The script should go : _Daniel Bryan pins HHH in 18 seconds._Daniel Bryan beats Orton & Batista to win the World Title. _sell shitoads of Daniel Bryan merchandise. Easy. And *now*, I'm actually interested in watching WrestleMania.
WingedEagle Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 I thought it was well established that the wedding was taking place in the spring and being filmed for the season finale of Total Divas. No reason they can't squeeze in some TV tapings around that and the honeymoon. They can also have him drop the belt at TV, Extreme Rules or anytime after Mania. Just can't crap the bed that night. Steph was too good last night. Overshadowed HHH on the mic to the point that all the heat seemed to be on her, but that's a minor complaint.
Russellmania Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 they should do the bit where Bryan beats HHH in 18 seconds but then have HHH order the match to be re-started and THEN have the real match with Bryan eventually winning. The heat would be off the charts after HHH has the match re-started.
Loss Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 I think a 50-minute stretch closing out the show with the HHH/Bryan match immediately followed by the title match would mean more.
Loss Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Two other things: (1) It would be awesome if the main event was announced by Stephanie as elimination rules "as a reminder" (wink wink) if Bryan pins Orton. Then you get to the issue people care about of Bryan vs Batista, and you also have the overall effect of Bryan beating Evolution in a gauntlet match. (2) After last night, I think the ring needs to fill up with either babyfaces or fans to close out the show.
dexstar Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Watching that segment, I was definitely wondering if that could plant the seed for a legitimate "ring rush" from the lower bowl if Bryan wins the match, like a college hoops upset scene.
Matt D Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Can we have Flair manage Batista for 3 weeks? It'd be even better if he turned on Miz to get there.
(BP) Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Flair's eyes bulging out of his head while he screams at the crowd to stop chanting YES would be perfect.
flyonthewall2983 Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Would be great if the crowd threw in the "What?" chant too, since he genuinely hates that.
KrisZ Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Alvarez just posted that Vince "DETESTED" Lawler's shirt he had on last night
Timbo Slice Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 As opposed to the crap he's been wearing for the last decade?
Coffey Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Lawler is lucky to be alive. I'm sure he doesn't give a fuck if Vince likes his shirt or not.
Strummer Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Just hit me that during her brief 2/3 months as Raw GM in late 08 Stephanie seemed to be trying to portray her current character but hadn't quite mastered it yet. She tried talking in the faux corporate monotone but couldn't quite get it then. And I don't know if it's a work but her voice now sounds as nasally as ever. Especially the last two weeks. I think she's amping that up for TV Hunter seems to have the corporate voice in the sitdowns with Cole but kinda loses it on TV. He's nailed it the last few shows though. So has Kane really. Kane has been a covert awesome talker during this last whole bit
goodhelmet Posted March 12, 2014 Report Posted March 12, 2014 Until they show more ass, I am not convinced their characters work for the long-term. Tonight was the first time it seemed like a wrestler got under their skin. As for Kane, I dig him in the role. More Corporate Kane and less Kane the Wrestler.
