Kostka
No love for Bryan vs Reigns? Reigns really impressed me here with his selling and power offense. I thought it was a great match and better than Bryan/Orton. Reigns is my favorite Shield member.
S.L.L.
So, way earlier in this thread, when talking about the company's failure to really capitalize on Cena, I wrote that.... I mean, on paper, Cena is no less protected than any of the big Attitude Era stars. He's portrayed as an extraordinarily successful wrestler. What he's not portrayed as is a respectable wrestler, certainly not relative to his position. I'm still on guard about this whole angle, since WWE has burned me so many times before...but it's really nice to not see them make the same mistake with Bryan. For that matter, THAT was what the aftermath of Punk being stripped of the title should've looked like.
sek69
I was reminded of Dusty's HOF speech where he mentioned getting yelled at by Steph for not reading emails despite him barely knowing how to operate a computer.
sek69
Also what are the chances they end up having AJ join the forces against the Corporation so someone can give Steph her comeuppance? They did do that thing where they had a confrontation so there'd be some storyline logic to it.
tim
I'm not TOO optimistic because I don't trust WWE to not fuck everything up, but they are on the cusp of having the best era in company history. They've got the germs of some really unique, compelling and dynamic angles going on, tons of talented guys both in and out of the ring, won't fall into the immature excesses of the attitude era but can still have an exciting and intriguing feel to a lot of the stuff they have going on, they have an emphasis on good ring work with the right guys to do it and are able to blend great ring work with good angles very well. I don't think it's all going to come together like it should because this is WWE we're talking about but fuck if they're not in the early stages of what could be an all time great company run right now. Jmare007
So on the post-RAW Wrestling Observer Radio podcast they were talking about the exchange between Stephanie and Orton, were Steph told him to go back to his psycho days or they would have to find another face for the company. Dave interrupted and said "I know who they are gonna find though". Then he revealed that Michaels is scheduled to appear in a few weeks. I'm not saying Michaels is the guy but that's two big news about the angle that should be revealed in the coming weeks. Could it be that WWE finally has a long term plan that they are willing to follow or am I just reading too much into things?
bradhindsight
Shawn makes sense given HHH's line to Bryan in the opening segment about "Shawn didn't teach you that this was the right way" (or something to that effect). That was the first they mentioned that relationship, which was pretty cool.
Sean Liska
I figure the face of the WWE in this plan will end up being HHH. It would be interesting if they had somebody else in mind.

The three hour format is still too much but I can't deny that I haven't enjoyed Raw this consistently since . . 1997? Admittedly, 2000 - 2003 I only half remember but I wasn't keen on the Attitude era and the Invasion thing was awful. Everything since then has been a pile of shit with the odd diamonds scattered about. It's still far, far from perfect - the booking and lack of direction of the midcard guys, inability to leave the Authority Figure role in the past, the stale commentary team and general presentation, the terrible diva's division (although judging by NXT, a half decent women's division isn't a unlikely as it may seem) - all major problems, but they've got a ridiculous amount of talent, promising young guys, vets on speed dial and they seem have realised how important good, lengthy matches can be. If you're somebody who only tunes in for the wrestling alone then you seriously have nothing to complain about. The PPV's this year have mostly been quality and piss all over anything produced by the indies/Japan (I don't follow Lucha so can't comment). If you include NXT (perhaps the best show they've EVER produced) then they're looking pretty fucking good. It's easy to whine about them throwing it all back in your face (or, in other words, giving HHH the title) but they haven't yet. Just learn to enjoy it. goc
It would be interesting to see them go for a different "hand-picked" face of the WWE that isn't Orton. Or HHH. I'm not sure who it could be though. Unless maybe they talk Batista into coming back for a run. Which would be totally ok with me as long as he keeps the spotlight entrance and acts like he did during his last run as a heel.
Jimmy Redman
If they had the luxury of doing it, Cena would be perfect. But alas. There really is nobody else who fits, is there? Anyone else is the wrong guy (Punk) or just isn't on that level.

Happ Hazzard
From PWInsider: An Elite member wrote me to tell me that he called Cox Cable and asked for a refund due to the finish of the Night Of Champions PPV being overturned. He said that Cox eventually gave it to him and the representative told him that other people had asked for a refund for the same reason. Cox is my cable company as well so I called my representative and was told that indeed other people have already called and gotten refunds, feeling that by invalidating the finish of the show that they paid for, they deserved it. This could become a slippery slope for wrestling companies. I can see their point. You can't charge people $65 for something and immediately invalidate the result the following day. It really isn't a good idea either from a business or a creative standpoint.

Happ Hazzard
"Wrestling is fake" isn't a panacea term that allows WWE to blatantly fuck fans over when expecting them to pay $65 to watch a title match that they are just going to overturn the result of the following day. WWE tries to walk a fine line between being sport and entertainment and having the benefits of both and the liabilities of neither. This is one of the times where that has bit them in the ass. If this had happened in UFC, and say the after the Pettis title win from Henderson, Dana had come out and said "the referee never heard or saw Bendo submit so the title change is overturned and by the way, I don't want Pettis to be champ" there would be absolute uproar. WWE will say, "well we're not sport, we're entertainment, just like TV shows like Breaking Bad etc etc. Stay tuned to see where the storyline goes next". Well those TV shows don't expect viewers to fork out $65 to see certain episodes. If they did, and the following episode of TV ended with the equivalent of Bobby Ewing in the shower and the PPV episode being "all a dream" and null and void, you can bet there'd be uproar about that too. Carnival
Hmm. So, would a refund have been in order if HHH had held up the title right after the match instead of the next night? Really find it hard to believe that anyone would think they were entitled to their money back for this reason, and even harder to believe that a cable company has indulged them. None of it, however, is as hard to believe as WWE charging $65 for their PPVs. Jeeeeez.

Matt D
HHH should come out on Monday and dock Daniel Bryan part of his payoff for the match due to what he and Armstrong did in order to pay for this.
Slasher
My thinking is that this may accelerate the WWE's desire to get its own service off the ground ASAP. Having your money taken away because a cable company is weak enough to cave in to what is obviously a frivolous issue would only sour them on continuing the relationship with said company. On the other hand, they must be loving the emotional effect the angle has on fans.
