shakla
This Nancy Grace stuff, I haven't watched her since the Benoit coverage, but people are really jumping the gun about her Warrior coverage last night. I don't think anyone even watched it, and I'm not implying it was good. For this 8 minute clip, I don't see anything where she says Owen Hart died of drugs or that every death on the "Wrestlers Who Died Young" scroll were necessarily drug-related. There's this outpouring of tweets plus #CancelNancyGrace is trending. BTW, I don't think their scroll/list has been updated since Benoit. No Lance Cade or Kanyon, Umaga or Test to be found. mookeighana
I just remembered the Warrior comic book he wrote in the 90's. It was pretty out there, especially the Christmas special. I have the first issue somewhere, I'll have to dig it up. "There was no text to explain what happened, so we can only offer up a description of the ink drawings within. Namely, that the Warrior KO'd Father Christmas, then depantsed him ,stripping him down to only his underwear. He followed this up by chaining him to the wall and looking at him in a manner we can only describe as... distributing. Presumably he came down St. Nick's chimney shortly thereafter. Or maybe he came up his chimney. Who knows. We'd rather not think about it." - R.D. Reynolds, The Wrestlecrap Book of Lists, pg 133. PIctures: http://officialfan.proboards.com/thread/487928/ultimate-warrior-christmas Here's what someone wrote in the comments of deadspin's Warrior article: "I met Warrior at PAX last year, and actually asked him about that comic. He basically said that, by that point, he'd had his fill of fighting with the artists on the book, and just let the artist on the Christmas comic draw whatever he wanted. He didn't even look at it until years later, when people started talking about the "Santa Rape" thing, and he had to conclude they were right, it looked like he had raped Santa." flyonthewall2983
I both love that the artists got their revenge and Warrior doesn't tip-toe around what it looks like and why it happened.
Strummer
Monday's RAW will be a 3 hour tribute show to the Warrior. Good call by the company. A still shot and a video package weren't enough http://www.f4wonline.com/more/more-top-stories/96-wwe/36414-wwe-news-notes-on-mondays-raw
El-P
Context is everything, really. A few years ago, Warrior would barely have been mentionned.
Sidebottom
Bret just posted on Facebook about how Warrior was not actually a bad guy on reflection and never did any harm to him ever. It's sad so many for so many years were cruel to Warrior only to change their tune now.
(BP)
Bret did stick up for Warrior when Flair tried to blame him for the inner ear injury he had in 92. That was probably more about him hating Flair though.
kjh
Bret just posted on Facebook about how Warrior was not actually a bad guy on reflection and never did any harm to him ever. It's sad so many for so many years were cruel to Warrior only to change their tune now. To be fair, Warrior said a lot of cruel things about many people that he never publicly apologised for. I don't think it's right to unmercifully bury a guy when he's just died like Deadspin did, but equally we shouldn't put him on a pedestal and airbrush his history too. In Bret's case, it's probably the right note to make.
El-P
"Les morts sont tous de braves types". G. Brassens (Dead people are all good guys) Agreed. It's infinitely sad what happened to Warrior, and especially his wife and little daughers. But let's not also forget "Queering doesn't make the world work" and such. Let's just be fair. flyonthewall2983
There's also what he said about New Orleans post-Katrina, that kind of puts this all in a spooky light (as if this whole thing wasn't weird enough).
Sidebottom
I love Bret, I'm noted in saying he is my GOAT, so I'm not trying to dump on him. I'm just saying he has bashed Warrior for years, seemingly now with an admission it was for no reason which is a huge shame.
Matt D
There was one Bret/Warrior tag before a superstars taping in 92. I always wanted them to release that since it was probably taped.
El Boricua
In a culture where "upstanding" behavior such as pooping in people's bags and food is accepted and celebrated, the greatest sin one can make is treat wrestling as a job and/or business, and not as a way of life. The people that do that will always get lambasted and dumped on (whether it's deserved, exaggerated or undeserved) by those that live for it. flyonthewall2983
Warrior was in a lot of tags with random guys in '92 it seems. I think he also did a 6-man with Boss Man and The Undertaker against Nailz, Kamala, and Berzerker too. I hope they do a tribute show Monday. Probably not and they'll just an in memoriam and then a package later in the show Turns out that's exactly what they will be doing Monday. Did that have something to do with fishing? Really, he had mellowed out the past few years with the political stuff. And I know that tribute video he did for Savage won a lot of people over. flyonthewall2983
Yeah, it was his first remarks in his response to the Self-Destruction DVD. I've been meaning to watch that tribute video.
mookeighana
I just put up a new piece on WhatCulture about Ultimate Warrior: http://whatculture.com/wwe/ultimate-warrior-4-incredible-secrets-facts-career.php/ I included some original documents such as Vince's 1997 offer letter. Thanks to Bix for sharing the PACER documents from the lawsuit with me.
kjh
The Ultimate Warrior died from a massive heart attack ... this according to the medical examiner who conducted the autopsy, TMZ has learned. Officials tell TMZ ... the official cause of death for Warrrior -- real name James Hellwig -- was determined to be "Atherosclerotic/Arteriosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease" ... aka heart disease. Officials classified Warrior's death as "natural" -- meaning neither drugs nor alcohol were directly involved. As we previously reported, Warrior clutched his chest outside of an Arizona hotel on April 8 while walking with his wife. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but never regained consciousness. Warrior was 54 years old. Read more: http://www.tmz.com/2014/04/14/ultimate-warrior-heart-attack-autopsy/#ixzz2ytHon8yd
Bix
Talked to the Maricopa County rep handling the Warrior inquires: This is just the preliminary, direct cause of death for the death certificate. The autopsy report with official cause of death is still a ways away pending a death investigation including toxicology, examination of medical records, etc.
