This is some really bizarre timing for sure. I know that his HOF speech made me feel uncomfortable because he seemed so unhealthy and I was worried he was going to collapse any minute. I can't say I'm surprised, sadly, because both at the HOF and on RAW, I was a little worried watching him.

The first thing I thought of after reading the news:

He was so sweaty and red-faced most of the time that I seriously thought he was going to pass out or have a heart attack or worse. I'm not joking at all. It was distracting to me. Also, put me in the minority who absolutely loved Lita's speech.

I'm not sure about the law, but there's no way the McMahon's don't take care of his family. Between PR concerns and their close relationship with him at one time, I'm sure they'll pay out the deal.

Plus, they just released the DVD (which surely will spike in sales now) and a bunch of new merch at WWEshop, so they will get a nice tidy sum from that.

He's said some pretty shitty and stupid things in the past, but I don't think any of that really matters, he seems to have let go of his eccentricities and I can only go on what I've seen from him in the present.

I think we saw Jim Hellwig for who he really was deep down during his HOF speech. A guy who absolutely adored his family, loved the time he spent in the wrestling business, was fond of his time on the territories and respected those who trained him, and a wrestler who seemed to genuinely care about every single one of his fans.

It's shocking how sudden and terribly timed his death was, but if we can take anything good away from this, it's that he got a chance to let everybody know that he was a decent guy, that he truly believed in the essence of professional wrestling, and that he buried the hatchet with so many people and finally made amends with WWE.

In his HOF speech, Warrior talked about wanting an award for the behind-the-scenes guys who make the magic of Wrestlemania happen. I definitely think this should be implemented and named for the Ultimate Warrior in tribute.

In the wake of the death of one of my childhood heroes, I felt the need to offer a career retrospective and some personal recollections. I cover his body building days til his last breath:

Great piece! Thanks for sharing.

I am still in shock. :(

It was so sweet that on a night where Warrior was the star inductee into the hall, he took the time to put his kids first and make them a part of it. It's no consolation right now, but I'm sure his daughters will find some comfort in having been able to see their father appreciated and respected by his peers and fans.

As much as I hate to admit it and as much as I know better, The Ultimate Warrior was my favorite singles wrestler whenever he was on the screen. I was never a huge Hogan fan, and I really was more into tag team wrestling. (The coolest thing to me was when two singles guys teamed up to take on the Tag Champs) How could you beat the raw energy of the man? The pure wrestling gimmick name, the promos, It was raw emotion all the time. Papa Shango was the scariest wrestler in the world because of what he was able to do to the Ultimate Warrior. And watching his HOF speech about being a father, about his legacy in hindsight it is all just so incredibly eerie.

I would be lying if I said that the Ultimate Warrior never influenced me as a wrestler, in positive as well as negative ways. And his politics left a lot to be desired. But he was one of my heroes. I remember silly things like drawing characters that looked like him. I remember making him in just about every video game that has a create a character feature. I remember downloading his entrance music in midi form from AOL sound clip boards, it was in three parts so i had to place them end to end to get the whole song. and then setting the family computer to have the startup sound of the Warrior's music.

I remember shaking the ropes while i was in training and goofing off, pulling off all of the warrior spots just for the sheer fun of it.

i've met a lot of my old heroes along the way of this wild thing I call a wrestling Career, but I never met him, and it saddens me because for all his faults, all his shortcomings. He manned up, he mended those broken bridges and he adored his family. Can't say much more than that, my heart goes out to his family. Meanwhile I will be running through the office shaking various objects and pumping my arms in memory of one of the wildest wrestlers ever.

Rest in peace good sir.

My friends and I used to paint our faces with my mom's craft paint and tie shoelaces around our arms and "wrestle" at my house. It usually ended up being a fatal 4-way of Ultimate Warrior vs. Ultimate Warrior vs. Ultimate Warrior vs. Ultimate Warrior.

Wrestlemania 6 was on my birthday. Had friends over to watch and we lost our shit when he pinned Hogan.

That was a really fond memory for me.

Besides, the gay rights movement is clearly a youth movement that many jumped on due to the Internet or to look cool in front of their friends, not often out of independent thinking.

Um, what? That was an utterly ridiculous post in general, but this line is especially absurd and probably offensive to people here. The 'gay rights' movement encompasses all age groups and has been going for decades, making a great deal of important and positive change. It isn't just a load of hipsters wandering around in rainbow wristbands.

Just a quick thought on what this. I'm not necessarily agreeing with the quoted post, but the Gay Pride Parade held every year in Chicago has become more of a party/drinking fiasco with high school and college aged kids, much like St. Patrick's Day, than actually celebrating or recognizing the reason for the Parade in the first place. There is some merit, somewhere, in what he was perhaps trying to say.

My first favorite wrestler.

Same for me. I'm a sociopath, so all my favourites wrestlers were heels. But then I heard them power chords and saw the tassels and the paint and the superhero physique. I'd be scooped up in the wild energy. He looked amazing didn't he? Like me, all the kids I knew preferred him to Hogan. Hulk was old and lame. Warrior had an otherworldly mullet and painted ring jackets and he would RUN and head bang like a heavy metal hard man. He was cool. Seeing him in the same ring as Hogan was mind blowing enough, but seeing him pin him clean gave him some mythical status as a kid. The sight of him at Mania Six with both belts held high is one of my fondest wrestling memories.

I was truly happy so see him make peace with the company and be presented in positive light on the weekend. Really shit timing. Absolutely gutted for his daughters.

RIP Warrior.

Guest The Jiz

Basically here is a quick defense since some guy wanted to level charges about my views, which none were hinted:

I've written a response but have chosen to not encourage the continuation of the debate for the sake of the thread and will instead take this to PM. All that will be said is no value-judgment was ever given on the legal merits of homosexuality. Tracing and/or explaining political views is something that is often done without exercising judgment of a topic's merits. And if you think I endorse people like Warrior, Limbaugh, Coulter, et al., you're out of your mind. But it's not because they're "bigots"; it's because their arguments are overwhelmingly wrong. But bigotry goes both ways, like one hipster sort-of friend who thinks anyone who is Catholic is hostile to science.

The response was more directed to Flyingonthewall. But based off of responses, it's clear to see why I chose initially to refrain from debating the matter. You don't debate people who are like "Haaa BIGOT" without their charge being justified anymore than I'd care to debate Sean "You're a Great Merikan" Hannity on foreign policy, to which he replies "You don't suport r troops!" If I cared to attack homosexuality, it wouldn't be hard to find some watered-down mainstream argument and make counterexamples, e.g. "It's genetic, therefore it is okay" - which obviously doesn't follow since sociopathic conditions have a largely genetic basis as well. Even one friend who is big into sexual liberation (straight but a porn addict) thinks that argument is pretty bad.

One of my best friends happens to be a lesbian, and she's actually very sweet as a person and a penetrating psychologist in ways that few are. Yeah, I'll likely get some silly response like "blah blah blah it's like saying you have a black friend and therefore ain't be no racizistttt." No, that doesn't follow at all. She's actually very interesting and someone I'd confide in, which is pretty rare in general. Others are "friends," i.e. people you drink with. Others are shitheads. So there.

Loss, delete this if you want, but it seems fair since some guy wanted to put me in the silly Fox News crowd.

Is Wrestlemania VII one of the more depressing Wrestlemanias in retrospect? There are three matches where both participants are dead and 11 deaths overall. Just a staggering amount of death for a show that only took place 23 years ago.

I am not nor have I ever been a Warrior fan. That said, I'm glad he got to come to "peace" with others before the ironies of fate decided to make the call against him. I also agree with him - and probably one of the only times I ever will - that the WWE needs to recognize as well the backstage staff (directors, cameramen, sound guys, Network engineers, etc) who help put on the shows both from the live theatrical perspective as well as passing the 0s and 1s across the Internet for fans to view across the globe. Will that ever happen? Probably not but it doesn't mean it shouldn't be fought for.

Fair winds and following seas, Warrior.

TMZ spoke to people that were with The Ultimate Warrior during WrestleMania weekend in New Orleans and they note that he looked to be in rough shape all weekend.

They noted that he appeared to be in constant pain, sweaty and looked very uncomfortable. It was apparent to the people around him that something was seriously off. People also took notice when Warrior looked weak after doing his signature rope shake on RAW.

One of their sources said, “We all felt like he looked like he was going to blow a gasket. It was pretty easy to see.”

No idea about that, but 30 is now even more memorable, for tragic reasons.

The Jiz has been banned.

Continue to admire the no nonsense moderation of a forum that lives up to the name "pro wrestling only"

Indeed. One can make the argument that Warrior's willingness to freely express increasingly unpopular sociopolitical opinions is "courageous", but being "courageous" and being "an asshole" are not mutually exclusive, and there is nothing admirable about courageously showing off what an asshole you are.

I wish for Warrior the same thing that I wished when Fred Phelps died - that he find the peace in death that he obviously could not find in life.

Just thought I would share a quick memory of Warrior. A few years in the spring of 2012 when Warrior first started doing those autograph tours again I had the chance to meet him.

He was by far the coolest wrestler I've ever met and I've met quite a few over the last 12 years since I started seeking out autographs. He really seemed so genuine in thanking you for being a fan and didn't brush you off like so many of them do. When I went to take a pic with him he had the guy do it again because he thought the first one was off center. How many wrestlers would of done that? I asked him about Kerry and Savage and he said they had off the charts charisma in person.

One of the coolest things I found out was after the autograph session concluded. According to the promoter Warrior was only paid to stay for 3 hours, but stayed an extra 3 1/2 without any payment just so he could meet all his fans that night. Another thing I thought was cool was he stood the entire time so you didn't have to take some crappy pic leaning over a table.
