I found a video with Vince Russo talking with Will Ospreay today on youtube. Russo was blowing a lot of smoke up Ospreay's arse - as they say. Even though Ospreay is one of my favourites this year I had to cut the video after about a minute of Russo blabbing his favourite wrestling buzzwords towards Ospreay.

If I have learned anything from the lukewarm controversy around the match it is that 99% of wrestling fans don't know what any of wrestling's language means. I saw several seemingly honest opinions on the match on youtube from people who are wrestling fans exposed to something different. I saw many more examples of the next Mark Madden in training spewing forth insider terms that they probably read on a copy of a copy of wherever Scott Keith collected the information for the RSPW pro wrestling FAQ...if that. The anger that some posters had about this topic was rather scary to see/hear/read online.

If they really want to know what "killed" the wrestling business they should probably look in the mirror....or really just the Attitude Era. They had all those hardcore or ladder matches. They had all those broken necks and wrestler after wrestler dying. Not that I think the business is dying. So many wrestlers with undiagnosed or ignored head trauma. It just got concussion after concussion and should have changed up their style to preserve the business as it is.

Oh yeah...I guess the lack of competition for WWE is probably the real culprit. D'oh! We should blame it on the flips and dives. It makes for a more generational scapegoat.

Vader unleashed a series of increasingly unhinged tweets toward Ospreay. Ospreay responded by acting like he was cosplaying The Young Bucks at a comic convention. In other words, being a smug douche. Kinda warranted in this case though, as Vader brings on the cray-der.

I'm sure this will end with Vader proclaiming, "I'm just working an angle, brother."

First and foremost, ugh... all this whole non-story needed was an intergenerational twitter battle to make me REALLY not care. I do think some indy promoter HAS to put this match on sometime soon.

That said, my money i son the old man in a real fight.

That's my thought too. It's become too big a story for someone not to cash in on it. Assuming of course that some clever promoter can talk Vader and Ospreay into doing proper business, of course.

I don't even think it would be that hard. I obviously don't know either, but it strikes me that it would be great for the budding Osprey brand and Vader would love to get high-ish profile match. Plus, it doesn't take a rocket scientist (which neither is) to figure out they could probably have a really fun little match, at least more fun than it probably has any business being. Even without the hype, I'd want to watch that. But yeah, its only good as an wrestling match (with maybe a few work-shoot moments). Anything else would be a nightmare.

The problem is that 99% of indy promoters really aren't good enough to book it. First of all you've got to have the money; most independent promotions don't even have the cash to bring in Ospreay, let alone Vader. Wherever you book it, you've got to pay for at least one really expensive plane ticket, maybe two of them. Then you've got to work out both guys' schedules and find a time which is open for Vader, for Ospreay, and for the building that you're promoting. And unless you've got the smarkiest audience on the planet, it's probable that the crowd won't care about the whole thing unless one of the guys is already a regular veteran of the promotion. And even assuming all that is do-able, THEN you have to talk both guys into putting their bruised egos away and doing proper business. And since logic would dictate that "proper business" means "Ospreay goes over" considering that Vader almost certainly won't be returning to wherever this happens, good fuckin' luck getting THAT to happen.

A glance at his Cagematch match list suggests that he ain't exactly fond of laying down. He doesn't have a recorded pinfall loss in the past ten years. And the few Vader matches I've seen in the last few years have all featured Leon squashing the shit out of whoever his opponent was.

I'm having a hard time getting all the outrage over this result, both here and on Twitter. Let's say a lot of the speculation is true, and Vader refused to do "business" and put over Ospreay when he got to the show. It's Vader, and if that's his rep, what did they expect? Why put him on the show? And how does this hurt Ospreay in the long run? When you bring in a big-time heel, you put him over and there's more anticipation for a rematch. Seems like booking 101. Note that I have zero investment in the promotion, Ospreay, Vader, or this current "feud", so it's possible I'm missing something.

I don't get it, either. Young rookie was beaten by a veteran and former World champion who's twice his size. Ospreay isn't hurt because if you're a fan of his you don't care, a veteran gets a decent payday, and it's likely been a work from very early on (meaning the build).

I wouldn't mind seeing the match, either, because I want to see how Ospreay bumped for him. If he did even half as well as I think he should've (having seen him play the pinball for bigger guys before) then it's another feather in his cap for versatility.
