KawadaSmile Posted December 7, 2022 Report Posted December 7, 2022 Tri is such a fucking lame nickname that I am sure Hunter started coming up with cool shit like The Game or Cerebral Assassin to overcompensate. Quote
NintendoLogic Posted December 7, 2022 Report Posted December 7, 2022 It probably sounds cool if you're as pilled-up as Shawn was then. Quote

Embrodak Posted December 11, 2022 Report Posted December 11, 2022 There is very little in or out of wrestling I am less interested in than Joey Janela killing himself in hardcore matches with Japanese wrestling stars. Quote
MLB Posted December 14, 2022 Report Posted December 14, 2022 Was amused to read this on a blind gossip site that I frequent, must have been a slow news week: Quote A foreign born professional wrestler (Atsushi Onita) turned politician claims to have broken Wilt Chamberlain's record of sleeping with 20,000 women. Coincidentally, his exit from politics was forced by a sex scandal in which he was alleged to have used government accommodations to host a threesome with a pornographic film actress and a female government employee. Atsushi Onita (Political Career) Quote
Coffey Posted December 19, 2022 Report Posted December 19, 2022 Can someone tell me who the wrestler on this cover is? Is it a Photoshop? Quote
NintendoLogic Posted December 19, 2022 Report Posted December 19, 2022 The lack of price and month/year in the upper right corner is a dead giveaway that it isn't a legitimate vintage PWI back issue. That guy probably isn't even a real wrestler. A Google image search turned up several different covers with that exact same template, so there appears to be some kind of service that lets people dress up as wrestlers and puts them on a fake PWI cover. Here are a few more examples. Spoiler Quote
khawk20 Posted December 19, 2022 Report Posted December 19, 2022 That cover thing was advertised in PWI itself back in the 80’s by my memory. You send them the pic, they put it inside the generic PWI cover. Quote
JRH Posted December 21, 2022 Report Posted December 21, 2022 So it's not a legit issue? Too bad, I was hoping to read about if the clawhold should be banned. Quote

Dav'oh Posted December 26, 2022 Report Posted December 26, 2022 The women who made up 50% of wrestling's audience in the 1950s, were they "losers" watching men wrestle "for the wrong reasons"? When Shida and Hayter add 80,000 viewers, does the demo breakdown eliminate "losers watching for the wrong reasons", or are they counted as valid viewers? Being attracted to athletic women makes one a "loser"? Was Lars from Lars and the Real Girl a "loser" for having artificial female company? I get it - I gatekeep with the best of them. I gatekeep my christian name. But it's such a leap, from a throwaway line in Xmas cheer to be extrapolated into some sort of greater misogyny. Personally, I watch the ladies wrestle, and I've not found a lady wrestler attractive since Summer Rae. Quote
sek69 Posted December 26, 2022 Report Posted December 26, 2022 I would expect it's probably a reference to the weirdos who were obsessed with the bathing suit style gear from 80s All Japan Women. It's not like there being a creepy subculture of women's wrestling fans who are WAY into it and give off "this guy is probably on a list somewhere" vibes is somehow a new idea. Hell, I'd argue a lot of it probably came from wrestling mags in the 80s having apartment catfighting ads that were barely disguised pornos. Quote
KawadaSmile Posted December 26, 2022 Report Posted December 26, 2022 Speaking of Christmas, Dave Bautista is truly the biggest wrestler-turned-movie star, huh? Quote
strobogo Posted December 26, 2022 Report Posted December 26, 2022 Austin vs Savage in 1997/1998 would have been the greatest feud of all time Quote
NintendoLogic Posted December 26, 2022 Report Posted December 26, 2022 Speaking of potentially amazing feuds that never came to fruition, the most recent retro Observer has an interesting tidbit about Jake Roberts in AAA. Konnan wanted to do the program with Terry Funk, but Antonio Pena had never heard of Funk and then marked out when he found out Jake the Snake was available. One can only imagine how the Funker trying to rile up Mexican fans would have gone. He genuinely might not have made it back alive. Quote
sek69 Posted December 26, 2022 Report Posted December 26, 2022 my goodness, peak babyface idol Konnan vs heel Terry Funk tormenting the crowd would have been AMAZING Quote

Al Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 Especially considering Pena wasn't just a promoter, he was an active wrestler when Funk was NWA World champion. Quote
