Finest Final Matches

Talking about Regal's 2013 matches in the Longest Period Between Great Matches thread got me thinking what are the best final matches in a career, whether they're proper retirement matches or just final matches by circumstance?

First two that spring to mind are Austin and Michaels.

Yuta Yoshikawa's tag match with Katsumi Usuda vs. Munenori Sawa & Ikuto Hidaka.

Victor Zangiev in UWFi?

 

He was by far the best of the Russians who came into Pro Wrestling in that NJPW deal and disappeared afterwards. Outside of his last bunch of matches in UWFi I've never heard anything bout him since.

Hell yeah. Hard to top that.

Mike Awesome (RIP) at One Night Stand 2005. He and Tanaka did their thing which isn't everybody's cup of tea, but they were the best match of the show on a night where a lot of guys that generally worked really well together previously were given the same chance to shine.

 

And as it stands right now, Batista's last match with the Evolution-Shield elimination match was good. But I'd guess he'll be back at some point.

Did Yoshihasa Yamamoto do any works after the 6/99 Tamura match? If not, that would be my pick.

Hey Boricua good to see you back around here. When Worlds Collide was Art Barr's last match. Good call with that one. He died 2 weeks later.

I was talking with a friend yesterday about how this was 8 years ago. It feels like just a few minutes, but that's practically a lifetime ago.

As of right now, it is Shibata for me as I can't think of another final match I have at *****.

Shibata and Barr are easily the top for me (as of matches I am thinking of right now).

Barr is a great call. And as broken-down as Tenryu was, I thought he and Okada put together a pretty solid match.
