Viking Hall Posted May 15, 2018 Report Posted May 15, 2018 Talking about Regal's 2013 matches in the Longest Period Between Great Matches thread got me thinking what are the best final matches in a career, whether they're proper retirement matches or just final matches by circumstance?
BigBadMick Posted May 15, 2018 Report Posted May 15, 2018 First two that spring to mind are Austin and Michaels.
Boss Rock Posted May 15, 2018 Report Posted May 15, 2018 As unfortunate as the circumstances were, Katsuyori Shibata.
superkix Posted May 15, 2018 Report Posted May 15, 2018 Yuta Yoshikawa's tag match with Katsumi Usuda vs. Munenori Sawa & Ikuto Hidaka.
SPS Posted May 15, 2018 Report Posted May 15, 2018 Victor Zangiev in UWFi? He was by far the best of the Russians who came into Pro Wrestling in that NJPW deal and disappeared afterwards. Outside of his last bunch of matches in UWFi I've never heard anything bout him since.
Zoo Enthusiast Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 Goldberg, that Lesnar match was great. Hell yeah. Hard to top that.
Hawkeye12 Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 Mike Awesome (RIP) at One Night Stand 2005. He and Tanaka did their thing which isn't everybody's cup of tea, but they were the best match of the show on a night where a lot of guys that generally worked really well together previously were given the same chance to shine. And as it stands right now, Batista's last match with the Evolution-Shield elimination match was good. But I'd guess he'll be back at some point.
fxnj Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 Did Yoshihasa Yamamoto do any works after the 6/99 Tamura match? If not, that would be my pick. Kenta Kobashi 5/13 retirement tag Yoshiko Tamura 12/10 vs. Kurihara El Santo 9/82 retirement tag
El Boricua Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 Was the Worlds Collide tag match Art Barr's last match? If it is then it qualifies.
Al Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 26. I never thought the retirement stipulation would stick.
joeg Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 Hey Boricua good to see you back around here. When Worlds Collide was Art Barr's last match. Good call with that one. He died 2 weeks later. I'm going to throw out Tenryu's retirement match vs Okada. Loved the drama
WingedEagle Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 26. I never thought the retirement stipulation would stick. I was talking with a friend yesterday about how this was 8 years ago. It feels like just a few minutes, but that's practically a lifetime ago.
soup23 Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 As of right now, it is Shibata for me as I can't think of another final match I have at *****.
Cap Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 Shibata and Barr are easily the top for me (as of matches I am thinking of right now).
Boss Rock Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 Barr is a great call. And as broken-down as Tenryu was, I thought he and Okada put together a pretty solid match.
Rah Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 William Regal (vs Cesaro) takes it for me pretty easily.
Phil Schneider Posted May 16, 2018 Report Posted May 16, 2018 I really liked Lee Valiants retirement match last year against Damien Wayne, we reviewed it over at SC http://segundacaida.blogspot.com/2018/05/bcwcwf-mid-atlantic-tap-out-cancer.html
SmoothS Posted May 21, 2018 Report Posted May 21, 2018 Katsuyori Shibata vs. Kazuchika Okada (NJPW Sakura Genesis 2017) Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker (WWE WrestleMania XXVI) Genichiro Tenryu vs. Kazuchika Okada in 2015
