I feel bad that I wasnt reading comics that DC One Million happened. I loved those big crossovers as a kid. I supposed I could pick up the collected version but those are never the same. I remember reading the collected version of Crisis on Infinite Earths and feeling like I was missing out on all the crossover issues and "pink sky" stories that are only tangentially related to the main story. I just remember walking past the comic rack in the grocery store as a kid and seeing all tie in comics with the logo for that year's big crossover on them and how cool that always seemed. And then of course going to the magazine section in the bookstore in the mall and browsing through all the wrestling magazines, looking for bloody pictures.

WWE TV 04/26 - 05/02 Roman Reigns fans are the smartest in the world
TheDuke replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
I thought the Alexa Bliss segment was supposed to be funny. I legitimately laughed out loud and thought it was the best one she had done because that one joke was funny but went way too long for a single joke. I feel bad that it looks like Benjamin and Alexander are basically going to be treated as jobbers now. They will probably be on Main Event in a month. -
That is awesome. I would really be interested in reading translations of what Japanese wrestler promos and the on-air interviews. It just feels like something that would of interest to me, to understand the wrestlers or the matches better.

Is there any babyface Piper matches where he goes against a bigger opponent or a monster heel? Or maybe a babyface I Quit match? I feel like that would have been a great role for him, as a babyface that would refuse to stay down even if he had no chance of winning but I dont remember any specific matches like that.

WWE TV 04/19 - 04/25 Florentino Perez I challenge you to a boxing match
TheDuke replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
I really liked that Orton/Riddle match. I feel like with Orton that most of the time he is boring, but when he wants to he can be good. Or maybe it depends on who his opponent is or who is the producer or agent for the match. One thing he does have is a kind of presence in the ring. I think he must really be an asshole in real life and that's why he is believable as an assole in the ring. Or it could be I am happy that Bray Wyatt was not involved in this match. -
I just wanted to point out that 10 years ago Loss described a match as "cinematic " and this was 5 years before The Final Deletion with Broken Matt Hardy.

I find it interesting that they had Anthony Ogogo debut the night they had Mike Tyson on, in the segment right before Tyson's segment. Is there any chance they are hoping that Tyson fans or boxing fans might be watching and might be interested in seeing another boxer wrestle?

Random Match Theory and Other Metrics
TheDuke replied to concrete1992's topic in Greatest Wrestler Ever
An interesting experiment but one that would not be feasible is take a group of people who have never seen wrestling, show them random matches from the nominees, and ask them to rank the wrestlers and compare the results to the GWE list. I wonder what wrestlers would rank around the same and what wrestlers would they rank wildly differently. -
It's for people who dont even watch the show. It's for their investors and business partners so they can say their show incorporates "augmented reality " even though it's used in a very meaningless way that doesn't make any substantial enhancement to the show.

I think the problem is they are promoting the WWE Universe as the top heels aka the fans. Those annoying fans who wont just let Vince push who he wants to push. I'm sure Vince has been happy in recent years to have first the Saudis, then Fox, and now Peacock to give him money so he hasnt had to worry as much about the fans as in the past.

In the Shimoda nomination thread, El-P mentioned how Mita invented the Death Valley Driver and that shouldn't be forgotten. I was wondering how important the invention of new moves are to the GWE discussion, especially if the new moves are adopted by a lot of later wrestlers. I dont actually know a lot about the history of moves and wonder is this is an important subject to consider .

I really liked the main event. There was some cool moves but I really liked how Matt Jackson was torn between being upset at Kenny and caring about Kenny. It feels like some real life friendships I've had. I found it interesting because in that moment I didnt know what Matt was going to do. And Jon Moxley seems so much better than he was a year ago. I think putting him with Kingston was so good for him. I dont think I really bought into him as a lone wolf. He is better when he is fighting for someone else then when he is just fighting for himself. A better babyface anyway. Moxley I feel like made a big part of us caring about what happens with the Bucks, because we care about what happens to Moxley. Also this will pivot to Bucks vs Moxley and Kingston which will be awesome.

I'm pretty sure Pineapple Pete was only there short term and has been gone for months.

I DVR and fast forward through the stuff that doesn't interest me each week (which is most of the show) and dont watch the PPVs so I had no idea Retribution was disbanded. Was there a PPV match that was the blow off or something? It just seems weird since during the summer it seemed like they were being built as this huge thing.

The first 4 minutes or so of this video is a promo from Darby Allin followed by a promo from JD Drake about their match on Wednesday. I like this and wish they did this for more matches. It also helps because I haven't heard JD Drake before and helps for me to know more about them.

I knew Dusty was a heel earlier in his career, but I had never put 2 and 2 together before watching that video. I wonder if a lot of the weird things Dusty used to do, the dancing and mannerisms etc, were heel things he did to get heat and then kept doing after turning face. When I first saw Dusty as a kid, he just seemed bizarre to me and I didnt get him. Sort of similar to Dustin doing a lot of weird stuff as Goldust to get heat then doing them as a face and the fans loving it.

I think Sue during the main event should have stepped on the gas and ran Miro over with the minivan. That would have been funny. I liked Don Callis' promo towards the Young Bucks. I feel like Omega's character is that he feels he is the coolest guy in the room, and that's because Don Callis keeps telling Kenny he is. The Good Brothers are there as muscle, not just to protect Kenny from being attacked, but to also keep the Bucks and any of the Elite from talking sense into Kenny. Kenny is actually a big geek, but since winning the title is living out his fantasy of being this cool wrestler guy, like a Ric Flair or The Rock or something. Like it is kind of a meta storyline in many ways. I don't watch BTE though so it's possible I am just reading the delusional geek part into what's been presented. I am a big fan of the characters in wrestling, whether that comes through in skits and promos or through the matches. I do feel disappointed when a wrestler seems to have one kind of gimmick and then that gimmick doesn't seem to affect the way they wrestle. Darby is great at this, the way he wrestles looks so fearless and reckless and it fits the kind of character he is outside of the ring. I like Omega a lot more since the heel turn since he has much more of a character now, there is more for me to be invested into.

I saw they have 4 episodes of Lion's Break Collision on their YouTube channel. I watched the first one and enjoyed it. I didnt like how it started with a webcam interview hosted by Kevin Kelly, but that was only the first couple minutes and once they got to the actual matches it was fine. The first match was Alex Coughlin and Clark Connors and I liked it because it had more of a mat based style than I'm used to. The second match had TJP in it whom I like. It's weird they dumped 4 episodes on YouTube at once. It reminds me a bit of current ROH where it's just a couple matches and there is more focus on the in ring and it's taken more seriously instead of having the skits and humor of a lot of modern wrestling.

The build up to Wrestlemania this year has done nothing for me but reading this thread is making me want to re-order the Network just to watch more classic territory footage. This sounds way more interesting to me then Raw recently.

Babyface Eddie Kingston reminds me of babyface Roddy Piper. I hope when this Moxley storyline is done they can put him in some singles feuds against top heels where he can really go off on promos against them because I think he would really get over as a star.

Speaking of Circus, I think if somebody else ever wanted to do a Lucha Underground type of show but not use specifically Lucha as the theme, I think a traveling Circus would be an awesome idea for a fictional show like that.

I kind of thought that in kayfabe,Tully's group wasn't part of his original plan when MJF joined the Inner Circle and that he made some kind of deal with Tully more recently. Like, I dont think he hates the Inner Circle enough to have had a master plan against them for no reason, and that this new group was a late change in plans for him. I do hope that at some point maybe next week MJF has a long interview segment where he explains what his plan was because otherwise it would seem confusing for viewers. I kind of wonder if Tony Khan needs someone working with him on the booking who would be able to warn him when something doesn't make sense like this or the Hangman Page Revolution contract. My guess is in his head it makes sense but he doesnt realize how the dots arent all connecting for the viewers. I like the thought that maybe MJF didn't join Tully's group until very last minute in storyline. Like he actually planned to take over the Inner Circle but found out beforehand they were going to turn on him so made the deal with Tully to save him. They haven't said this on the show one way or the other, but I would find it really interesting if he still had a mole within the Inner Circle. For instance, if one of them did side with MJF and warned him they would all turn on him during Dynamite. Meaning there is somebody still secretly in the Inner Circle scheming against Jericho and somewhere down the road there is more Inner Circle drama to come. It's just a theory, but I would enjoy that.

I knew a wrestling fan who once thought that the clothesline/lariat was a boring move and a stupid finisher (that wrestling fan may have been me).

I'm surprised they never did a Twilight inspired gimmick when that was hot. Although knowing how out of touch and behind the times they are, I wouldnt be surprised if WWE came out with a twilight inspired gimmick tomorrow.

What do people think the best match was tonight? The Fenix match?
