elliott Posted July 31, 2015 Report Posted July 31, 2015 Did we all have that experience today? I was watching, very randomly, some Piper shoot interview/podcast clips on youtube this afternoon during a slow bit at work. Weird. Apparently we all did because I was quoting They Live with a co-worker all day, got off and then saw the news. Sad day.
Quentin Skinner Posted July 31, 2015 Report Posted July 31, 2015 Another death that has really caught me off guard. RIP Hot Rod, one of the best heels to ever do it.
shoe Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 I was at an autograph signing a few months ago. The man was super nice to everyone. His line took so long because he was talking and BSing with all his fans. He took time out to shake people's hands. Just came across as one of the good guys. Never would have guessed out of the group who was there that he would be next.
Seej Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Savage, Andre, Warrior, Dusty and Piper all dead. Hogan is a shell of himself. I guess Ric Flair is the only real icon of 80's wrestling we have left.
Brian Elliott Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 I hope people enjoy this long interview with Roddy as much as I enjoyed asking the wide-ranging questions. Re-published from Issue 84/85 of Fighting Spirit Magazine:http://www.fightingspiritmagazine.co.uk/art/interviews/276/rip-roddy-piper-interview-with-the-hot-rod
...TG Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Bix posted this channel on Twitter: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCv1zjTH4qzNyfHcEya4crqw. A whole bunch of Piper promos.
The Chief Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Wow. This is gonna take a couple days to hit.
Busterira Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Piper was absolutely one of my favorites of all time. This really sucks just on the heels of Dusty. RIP Roddy two of my fav Piper moments
...TG Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Here's an amazing taped promo for a Piper-Flair match in Portland:
Laz Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 I was at an autograph signing a few months ago. The man was super nice to everyone. His line took so long because he was talking and BSing with all his fans. He took time out to shake people's hands. Just came across as one of the good guys. Never would have guessed out of the group who was there that he would be next."Be strong." This man wrote that on the inside of his autobiography when I met him not long after my mother was diagnosed with cancer. I was just a fan to him, just another kid whose name he would never remember, and he took 10 minutes out of his busy day to talk to me and treated me like I was family. Thank you, Hot Rod.
artDDP Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 This is just terrible. Just this week I stumbled upon his campy "I'm Your Man" video on YouTube and then, suddenly, he's gone. So many of us became fans because of the work of great characters like Roddy and Dusty and to watch them pass is like losing a friend.
Sidebottom Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Rotten news. Piper was easily one of the top 10 "known" pro wrestlers in the "real" world, and one of my favorites growing up and getting into wrestling. A huge loss. RIP Roddy.
iamthedoctor Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 This is pretty sad news and to think I was watching a Piper/Conquistador match last night not knowing he had passed away till this morning. I kinda always expected Piper, Hogan & Flair to be the ones to outlive everyone.
CFTV Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Another one that hurts! Roddy was always one of my favorites growing up. I hope this is a wake up call to Vince and the WWE to really get it in gear in terms of shooting interviews and footage of the Legends still living today. The WWE should really have a division in the company that just produces footage of the Legends for future programming. Could you imagine the stuff they could produce if they put 1/2 the funding for WWE Films into producing Legends content that wrestling fans would actually watch?
Fantastic Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Gutted... RIP Piper. Two all time greats in such a short space of time, really shaping up to be a shitty year in the wrestling world.
Lust Hogan Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Piper was never my favorite but he was certainly someone I had a lot of respect for. When I think of Piper my mind immediately jumps to WrestleMania 1. I'm going off memory but somewhere in the beginning of the match the heels bail and Piper walks up the MSG aisle like he's leaving flipping off the crowd while wobbling his head arrogantly and the crowd just lets him have it! I always loved that moment for some reason. He was SUCH a guy you loved to hate. Piper also gets a lot of respect from me for being a family man. It was obvious how much he loved his wife and kids. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
LariatMMBOPPO Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 I love him "outing" Saba Simba as being Tony Atlas. While it was probably scripted beforehand, it's just great hearing him go off. "THAT'S TONY ATLAS, THAT AIN'T NO SABA SIMBA"
iamthedoctor Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 Was browsing Youtube last night and I came across this video As it was taken 25th July I think it is probably his last ever televised interview.
Cap Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 Piper understood good vs evil and he understood how to make wrestling fun and intersting. What he lacked in the ring he made up for with intensity and intelligence. I always had a lot of time for piper. RIP
victory Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 I went on vacation in June and came back to the passing of Dusty. I just got back from vacation again and come back to the passing of Piper. This just sucks, another legend gone too soon. Thankfully I don't have anymore vacations planned this year. RIP Rowdy.
Timbo Slice Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 This is an awesome, awesome bit with Woody Paige talking about a time he hung out with Piper after a match one night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1LADs_ZIVA&feature=youtu.be
PhilTLL Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 I love Kate Fagan looking at notes or whatever and only nodding halfheartedly until she hears "spit at the kid."
