Woof
Basically what I've learned from this project is that making lists is a dumb and fruitless hardship- one that instills nothing but shame and heartache over what used to be feelings joy and wonderment. Yeah, but what a ride!
Cap
This last few stretches of the list have been cool. I was a little (and presently) surprised that Super Dragon was this high. I love me some super dragon, but I just didn't think he would make 22 ballots.
JerryvonKramer
Didn't vote for Patera. Not enough meat to comfortably justify the case to me. I do see that too, we are missing a lot of the 1970s footage -- just a smattering really and he doesn't crop up in Japan. There is a 1977 WWF run. To me he's kind of a bit like a Rick Rude candidate with 1980 as his 1992 -- only his 1980 is a smidge below Rude's 92 (outside of Backlund, the Pat Patterson feud is pretty darn good too: Grand Wizard, what a double-crossing so and so!) -- but then his AWA stuff is mostly better than anything Rude has outside of 92, so there they are similar types of candidates to me. But I can see anyone justifying leaving either guy off.
El-P
I actually like Shemus, but on what planet is he the 224th best wrestler ever? Have NASA built a telescope that can see that far? At least he wasn't overlooked. Thank God Chono dropped. I voted for Chono last time around, probably because I had watched his peak years (which is great) not too long before. I couldn't justify him getting near my top 100 this time around. DDP was my #96. I never thought I'd get so much love. Biggest overrachiever in US pro-wrestling, if not worldwide. For every bad idea or promo he had, whatever political pull he benefited, this guy was a super late starter, worked his ass off to become a really good worker and one of the best carrier of his era. What he got out of Goldberg and Sting in 98/99 is off the chart. He made his finisher the most over move even before Austin, and Randy Orton owes him the only good part of his game. Talking about guys who loved the business, here's one, and at the end of the day, he was a huge positive. Oh, and whenever I hear the argument that "he liked to pre-plan everything", I think of Randy Savage, I think of everytime I hear about how great Cena is, and I chuckle. Oh, and he had the hottest wife too and remained friend with her after they split, which is another accomplishment. Love me some DDP.
El-P
Eadie drops another off my list. I'm sad I'm not the high voter though, damn you Matt D! I wanted an awesome Ax avatar. Me being high on Eadie is the world's worst surprise. Come on, really ? Anything different would have seemed so wrong.
Yo-Yo's Roomie
Looks like about 14 guys have dropped off my ballot now, mostly from the bottom 25 or so. Buddy Landell is my highest-ranked guy to go. I had him at 58, which was much higher than I anticipated him being.
Loss
El-P, could we argue that DDP exposes the flaws of WWE's approach to wrestling as well as just about anyone? Here's a guy who was in great shape and started a main event run in his early 40s. Four years in, he showed no signs of slowing down -- he was never going to be a huge headliner or anything, but he was a serviceable upper card guy who still had plenty in the tank when he arrived in WWE. WWE turned him into an opening match comedy guy, ostracized him politically and he had to retire from injuries in less than 12 months.
El McKell
I know that I only had her in the 80s but seeing Lioness Asuka this low just isn't right, she's just so badass
Loss
Honestly, less women have dropped at this point than I would have expected. Most of the women I ranked still haven't showed up, which is a big surprise.

Even going into the details of how they produce guys, they gave him that stupid "It's me, it's me, it's DDP" cactphrase at the beginning of a dull music theme, whereas he had the "Self-high five" which in WCW was as iconic as the glass breaking in term of sound stimulus.ANd let's not even mention the treatment of Kanyon BTW. Wait, where is Kanyon ? Wasn't he nominated ? As far as Lioness goes, she's one who took a massive plunge as I was seeing more of her. In 99, I was a big fan. By 2002, I was rolling my eyes at her work and booking approach. Her coming to ARSION definitely killed what was fun about the promotion. Her fake shoot fight with Hotta in 95 is the most horrendously overrated stiffness jerkfest ever. I'm glad Chiggy will end up higher (and I'm not exactly a Chiggy fan). jaedmc
Chono is about 300 spots too high unless the criteria used is hevily skewed towards how cool someone's outfit, entrance and theme music were. At least he didn't make the list this time. I hope the same fate awaits Mutoh. I voted Mutoh so hiiiiiiiiigh. I'm with you. if you distill the Invasion down to it's essence it would look like the horrible booking of DDP by making him nothing like the guy that drew money or made anyone happy. Even as a heel in WCW DDP still felt like DDP.. When he pulled that fucking mask off in WWE I knew instantly he was done.
JerryvonKramer
Things I'm wondering about guys on my list now and who I expect to fall before we get to the actual top #100: - How high can Scotty Steiner possibly go? - Maybe I'm not the only one who still rates Dynamite Kid - Who are those other closet Sting voters! - Where are we gonna see Hogan and Dusty, and could they finish top 100? - Can the perennially underrated Hase make it to the 100? - There's also the question of ... Isn't it exciting eh.
JerryvonKramer
On another note, has it ever been explained why they picked Chono to be one of the musketeers? I guess he does have a handful of great matches (Hase? Rude? couple of others), but did he ever really look like a great worker?
pol
Re: paying for wrestling, it frankly strikes me as ridiculous that in 2016 it's still necessary to buy DVDs to get certain footage. Just seems like all of it should be online by now. This might sound like whining but I'm not blaming anyone, it just seems strange that I can easily get hold of obscure 80s Japanese crust punk releases online but can't watch Battlarts in any depth without shelling out for media that I barely even have the means to play any more. And of all three, he's the one who was never quite the Man like Hash and Muto were. He really found his niche already past his physical prime when he turned heel and was the coolest motho on the planet.
Ship Canal
Honestly, less women have dropped at this point than I would have expected. Most of the women I ranked still haven't showed up, which is a big surprise. The more I've pored over the debates being had in the nominations threads and listened to the podcasts roll out, the more I'm convinced that those who predicted a comparable lack of joshi candidates ranking high this year may be proven wrong. I'm not saying many will poll as high as they did last time, but I don't think as many will drop off as some folk may have presumed. I think the much discussed divide/correlation between "greatest" and "favourite" will play into this. For every sober minded "not all styles are created equal" argument that is put forward (btw did you ever write that piece Dylan? Was genuinely looking forward to reading it), I think when it actually came time to put pen to paper a significant amount of voters may have found it hard to justify lower votes for female workers who might have provided some of the most emotionally engaging moments in all of their fandom, even if their opinion on the quality of the work from an objective point of view may have advanced some. Again, we are back to the idea that its extremely difficult for some of us to work out the tension that exists between a more detached objectivity and a more emotionally resonant subjectivity. And then there are people like me who just think most of the criticisms of some joshi are extremely harsh. Anyway, having made this grand prediction, I now await the inevitable inclusion of all my joshi workers in the next batch of honorable mentions. Bound to happen. El-P
Duggan not being ranked in 2006, to me, means the influence of the DVDR 80s sets are high. And that people watching those were high too. (BTW, my RVD joke went over the head of everyone) Duggan has a handful of really good matches in his career and was already goofy as fuck by the time Mid-South became UWF. It's not like WWF made him that way. I really enjoy his feud with Buzz Sawyer, who hasn't appeared yet. I really enjoy the Vader match in WCW. I always hated the jingoist gimmick. The pic is awesome. He's officially overrated as all hell.
