Superstar Sleeze Posted September 15, 2016 Report Posted September 15, 2016 I have been watching a lot of AJ Styles and he is such an underrated brawler. Some of the best punches of all time! That overhand right that hits the side of face, nose is nasty, always makes a great sound and looks violent as hell. That is some pure 80s, Southern punching greatness there. Everyone talks about the flips and tricks, but he is so sound. Those awesome punches are a staple going all the way back to 2003! He would have been incredible in Memphis. Him vs Lawler could have been the greatest match of all time period. I just think they would have sized up so well against each other. That got me thinking is AJ the best puncher of the 2000s wrestlers??? Punching is not a highly valued commodity in today's wrestling. This is the land of modified suplexes, flips and tricks. Necro Butcher comes to mind and I imagine he will be the one most people cite as the greatest. Is there anyone else in contention? Is there any way AJ Styles does not make your top 5? To me he is a mortal lock and I would currently have him at two behind Necro. Low-Ki and Danielson don't really punch. I would say AJ is a better puncher than Joe or Punk pretty safely. For some reason, I cant picture Chris Hero's punch in my head. I can picture his elbow, which is great. But I do not recall what his punch looks like. Could be an oversight on my part. So who else you got? Quote
Phil Schneider Posted September 15, 2016 Report Posted September 15, 2016 Preston Quinn is the best, VA indy guy, who has the whole variety of punches, great upper cut, good over hands, great hooks. Jimmy Rave is really great too Quote
concrete1992 Posted September 15, 2016 Report Posted September 15, 2016 Does Jerry Lawler count? Quote
Loss Posted September 15, 2016 Report Posted September 15, 2016 Jay Briscoe. Matt Hardy. Corporal Robinson. Damien Wayne. Quote
El-P Posted September 15, 2016 Report Posted September 15, 2016 I've liked Mil Muertes. Oh fuck yeah ! His punches look terrific most of the times. Quote
Blehschmidt Posted September 15, 2016 Report Posted September 15, 2016 I'd have to watch matches to judge his regular punches. But for a singular, loud, oh shit punch, Arik Cannon has a really good one he pulls out once a match. Quote
The Chief Posted September 16, 2016 Report Posted September 16, 2016 Loss beat me to Matt Hardy, first guy that came to mind! So I'll say... Chuck F'n Palumbo Quote
concrete1992 Posted September 16, 2016 Report Posted September 16, 2016 Kevin Owens. We've jumped the shark! Quote
Superstar Sleeze Posted September 16, 2016 Author Report Posted September 16, 2016 Kevin Owens does not come to mind at all for me. Admittedly, not seen much of Steen's work on Indy circuit, is that when he had great punches. In WWE now, I don't think he is even Top 5. Quote
Mr. Lacelle Posted September 16, 2016 Report Posted September 16, 2016 Jay Briscoe is a good shout, he's been my fav for years Quote
Bierschwale Posted September 16, 2016 Report Posted September 16, 2016 Togo and Rey Escorpion were the first two to come to mind who hadn't been mentioned. Quote
NintendoLogic Posted September 22, 2016 Report Posted September 22, 2016 Eh, I remember Kevin's punches looking good in a match I saw a month or so ago. I can't remember if it was Raw or a PPV. What struck me was the fact that he throws them at a downward angle, which I think is the key to a good worked punch. Quote
joeg Posted September 22, 2016 Report Posted September 22, 2016 Michael Tarver from Nexus. Also I think Karl Anderson throws a pretty good punch. Hayato Jr Fujita throws a great punch and it means different things and different places in the match, the way Flairs chop would mean different things. Quote
NotJayTabb Posted September 22, 2016 Report Posted September 22, 2016 I watched a really great Sheamus vs Titus match from a 2014 Main Event last night, and they were both laying in some great looking punches. Sheamus in particular had really great body shots. Quote
EricR Posted September 22, 2016 Report Posted September 22, 2016 SUWA, Gedo. Not only have they not been mentioned yet, but they were among the first I thought of. Quote
GOTNW Posted September 22, 2016 Report Posted September 22, 2016 Kazunari Murakami is the objectively correct answer here. El Terrible and Luke Gallows pack a good one too. Quote
InYourCase Posted September 22, 2016 Report Posted September 22, 2016 I dig Shingo's jab. Love what Matt Hardy, Jay Briscoe, and KUSHIDA bring to the table, also. Quote
Coffey Posted September 22, 2016 Report Posted September 22, 2016 Jay Briscoe. I've liked Mil Muertes. I'll admit, when I read the thread title, I drew a complete blank. These are two great shout outs though. Props. Quote
Microstatistics Posted October 30, 2017 Report Posted October 30, 2017 Necro Butcher - The best of all the post-2000 guys I've seen when it comes to violent punches Yuki Ishikawa - Most brutal body (and sometimes even face) shots of all time Genichiro Tenryu - Those jabs were a thing of beauty. Quote
SteveJRogers Posted October 30, 2017 Report Posted October 30, 2017 Undertaker, best pure striker in the WWE! *rolls eyes* Quote
Boss Rock Posted October 30, 2017 Report Posted October 30, 2017 Mil Muertes and KUSHIDA have awesome knockout punches. Juice Robinson and Gedo are awesome punchers as well. Quote
Laz Posted October 30, 2017 Report Posted October 30, 2017 Joe Coffey throws some very solid looking punches, but I think he throws a little too many of them. Quote
