ZThomas
2008 wasn't too bad the women's tag division was good in the beginning
brocklock
There's also the last three months of 2009 when AJ/Joe/Daniels feuded for the world title and Nigel McGuiness got signed to feud with Angle. I also remember Scott Steiner having decent matches with Lashley around this time. It seemed like they finally were getting back to near summer 2005 levels of quality again but then Hogan/Bischoff came in and everything got extra terrible. hammerva
So given the mess with Jeff Jarrett temporarily leaving because of "personal reasons", is it safe to call the company TNA again
Boss Rock
2005 was probably their peak in terms of in-ring quality. But there was still lots of good stuff to be had scattered around amidst all the absurdity.
Sidebottom
I think post 2010 is when things really fell of a cliff. I stopped watching during the never ending Aces and Eights nonsense. Up until that point, I'd always tune in weekly, even if it were just for background fodder.
Boss Rock
When I was younger, I remember thinking the countless gimmick matches were cool but looking back it's like...wow, that was really, REALLY stupid.
TheDuke
I liked the Aces & Eights stuff, mostly because I liked seeing Bully Ray as the lead heel.
Lee
I think post 2010 is when things really fell of a cliff. I stopped watching during the never ending Aces and Eights nonsense. Up until that point, I'd always tune in weekly, even if it were just for background fodder. Â I actually got back into watching the show every week when the Aces and Eights thing first started, but then it dragged on forever until they finally started revealing guys, and, aside from the predictable Bully Ray turn, each one was a fart wetter than the last. SomethingSavage
At the time, it felt like they were really gaining some steam & momentum from late 2011 throughout most of 2012. The Roode turn and title reign, the saga of James Storm's redemption, the ascension of Austin Aries, the pairing of Daniels & Kazarian, and a lot of other little things made the shows worth watching. And they weren't a chore to get through. Plus they had some standout matches during that period. Aries/Bully from two PPVs, Styles/Bully from Slammiversary 2011, and Aries/Joe as the opener of Slammiversary 2012 all instantly spring to mind without even thinking much about it. Â I know there are people that absolutely despise the ideas, but I (usually) dug the Open Fight Night and short-lived weekly TV Title defense concepts as well. Â Just glancing back, I think things fell off the rail sometime shortly after the Bully Ray reveal at LockDown. But for a good year or year and a half there, it honestly felt like they had a shot at leveling up.
ZThomas
He deserves Credit for making the Brooke Hogan angle, He was really really good he was the glue to the whole Ace & 8's thing that whole period was the last time I commited my self to watching TNA week to week. That was a career run for him , I wish he got to be Bully Ray in WWE but I dont think they wouldve let him be him the way he was here

Sums up my favorite period in TNA history, 2011-2012, and agreed that shortly after Lockdown 2013 was when things took a downturn
El-P
Sue me, those drinking contest segments from Genesis 2007 with Eric Young & James Storm actually amused me. Especially Jackie Moore dropping a "That sumbitch is out!" at the end. And damn, that ladder match between Christian Cage & Kaz was quite the brutal affair too. Yeah still lot of good stuff in 2007, despite the awful Russo booking (I credit Mantell for everything good).
El-P
Just watched Gail Kim vs Awesome Kong from Turning Point 2007. If that stuff was on WWE TV today, people would go apeshit for this and would declare it the greatest thing of the year. (it also makes whatever praise Nia Jaxx gets even more ridiculous than it already is)

El-P
I admit, as the one clamoring for people to post in the GFW thread, it's pretty damn funny. It's like, you can't escape it. IT LIVES ! Â And Corny is gone already too. Â TNA is gonna bury us all.
cm funk
As soon as the JJ news broke I knew Corny and Mantell would be gone sooner than later. He was the only reason they were there. Corny no sold it on one of his pods, but he's a world class bullshit artist, it was pretty easy to tell he wasn't gonna be around without Jarrett there. Â It's a rudderless ship with no consumer confidence left, but we've been saying this for 15 years and they just refuse to die. It really is amazing. Dewar
Cornette states on his podcast regularly (well before he joined up with GFW) that he has no desire to get his paperwork done to get into Canada because of how the border security treated him the last time he tried to come up here. rzombie1988
Cornette states on his podcast regularly (well before he joined up with GFW) that he has no desire to get his paperwork done to get into Canada because of how the border security treated him the last time he tried to come up here. Yep. He's made it very clear he's never going back to Canada due to the incident last time and really, why should he? He can cut a promo from his living room and he only does limited appearances anyway.
cm funk
Also, he hates flying, and it's quite a haul driving from where he lives up to the Canadian border. Â To be fair though, I've heard him tell the story about his "treatment" at the border several times, and it really sounds like he was the aggressor/jerk in the situation, and was detained for a bit because he lost his notoriously short temper. I wasn't there obviously, but based on his side of the story he comes off like the jerk, IMO
The Thread Killer
Yeah, it used to be a breeze to cross the Canada/US border, but after 9/11 it kept getting harder and harder. First they made it so you have to have a passport, which you never used to need. Now, they run your name and if you have a criminal record, they might arbitrarily decide not to allow you in. It doesn't matter if the charges are ancient or not violent in any way. I have a friend who has crossed with no problem several times, but once he got detained for 5 hours and turned back, due a couple of minor misdemeanors on his record from over 20 years ago. From the sounds of Jim Cornette's story, that is pretty much exactly what happened to him.
cm funk
I haven't been to Canada in about 10 years or so, so that's post 9/11, and I didn't have any issues at the border going in or crossing back last time I went (Quebec). But I also didn't give any reason for a problem at the border, because I'm not an unhinged ball of anger like Cornette
sek69
Apparently Cornette had old charges from back in the territory days where he and the MX had to fight their way out of a couple arenas, and since he's already disinclined to want to travel the new security procedures sealed the deal.
Bix
My understanding is that if he was inclined to fight it, he'd be fine, but he has no desire to do so. Especially since it didn't keep him out of Canada for the intervening two decades.
NintendoLogic
https://twitter.com/Maffewgregg/status/910946069567148032 Â I'm actually not sure if this belongs in the TNA thread or the GFW one. Either way, it's hilariously bush league even by their standards.
