soup23
Pretty glaring gaffe in this weeks issue with Dave claiming Asuka was Stardom's biggest star at one point.
rzombie1988
I don't think Braun is overpushed at all. I would have voted Bray Wyatt. But I think the logic in selecting him is not so much that he's awful, but in the continued frustration toward WWE's lack of a level playing field, where even if he wasn't any good, he would get numerous chances to get over because of his size, where someone smaller who didn't have a push work out once would really struggle to get the opportunity again. Looks are a really important part of wrestling, especially in the "looking like a person who can beat someone up" department. If I can buy that you can hurt someone, you won't actually need to hurt someone for me to buy it. NXT has gotten to the point where the male wrestlers who were signed for their appearance/size stick out in the land of flippy guys under 5'10. You have to moderate it some though. Too many guys of any size/look/style ruins the effect of it. Wrestling can't really be fair unless everyone is 50/50.
EricR
Like when WWE had a short-lived stable of Brock, Big Show, Nathan Jones, Matt Morgan and A-Train. It's like they were trying to make all of them look completely normal.

El-P
So, Meltz said Eva Marie was done with pro-wrestling. What a great stint. That was worth the time.
Loss
That speech was amazing. Anyone who thinks Dave no longer has any passion for wrestling should really listen to that speech.
Cox
Dave still pretty clearly has passion for wrestling. He just doesn't have a ton of passion for WWE.
El-P
Who in their right mind would ? (and he still pimps tons of WWE matches as "great" too, despite not being great at all in my book)
sek69
He's been a big fan of the Friday night CMLL shows to the point where he decided he wants to cross going to an Arena Mexico show off his bucket list by the end of the year (which is something I assumed he'd have done by now being CA based all those years). EricR
The Bay Area is no closer to Mexico City than anyone else in the U.S.
Beast
Okada-Omega 60 minute match at Dominion has been given 6 1/4 stars by Meltzer.
Jmare007
Dave is the GOAT stan
EricR
Wait...so if 1/4 stars are still in play in his system...that means he genuinely thought the 1/4 match was 4 points/devations higher than any match in history?
Beast
That's what he opened himself up for when he gave out the 6. Now if he ever likes a match better than this 60-minute draw (likely Omega-Okada 3) it has to be another new step up. I wasn't negative on the 6 star rating at the time, but now it looks like it's going to get too silly.
goc
So he's pretty much just turned his entire star rating system into a joke and he himself is now a parody?
Microstatistics
Initially I could understand the idea behind a 6 star match, to convey that he thought 1/4/17 (and 6/3/94 which he bumped up later) were a cut above the other matches he has at 5 stars. But the 6 1/4 rating sort of negates the 5 star scale system. By that logic he can have 5 3/4 stars and 7 1/2 stars matches and the usual rating scale is rendered irrelevant and ratings become completely arbitrary . pol
I think you guys are putting more thought into this than Dave has.
brockobama
I guess you could say that that's the problem, but yeah, I'm mostly indifferent to it all past the "well that's dumb" phase.
El McKell
I think you guys are putting more thought into this than Dave has. This. He just wanted a rating to say it was a little better than the Dome match, don't think about what it means about how much better he thinks it is than other 5 star matches or if you could have a *****1/2 star match or whatever
El-P
Except now the scale is worthless. What does a ***** match even means, since you can give whatever snowflakes you want basically ? ******1/4 on what scale ? Seven ? Six and a half ? It's just stupid. And yes, Meltz officialy made his own system look like a joke (I'd say, again, but at least the 6 stars felt like, okay, this is a very special case) and himself as a complete parody as far as evaluating a match goes. pol
Maybe the whole star rating thing was never intended to be taken as seriously as people ended up doing.
FMKK
He manages to take himself pretty seriously. Imagine writing wrestling reviews for decades and becoming a trusted opinion leader on the topic then pissing it away for Twitter reactions and fanboying movez though. He may as well just join Reddit.
Jetlag
I for one am looking forward to all those 7 hour long ******** 3/4 classics we are no doubt going to see in the near future as wrestlers keep falling over themselves trying to beat the highscore.
El-P
It's not a matter of taking it too seriously or not, it's a matter of making sense in a given context. You can give as loony as you want of a star rating inside the scale, but when you make the whole scale useless, what's the point anyway ?
Loss
The six-star thing was clearly, to me, Dave's way of saying that the Dome match transcended even what he normally sees as a five-star match. To me, what that says is that he gives too many matches five stars, but you only live once, and the ratings are his, not mine. It was a five-star match and this is a five-star match for ratings purposes. It's a poorly thought out way to phrase how great he thinks this series is, but I do think it was meant to be figurative.
