  1. This was fantastic. I have only seen few of his matches, but I so far really like TK Cooper's sleazy heel act w/ Dahlia Black. It's pretty tremendous. Then you of course got one of my favorite wrestlers in the world, Matt Riddle who is an absolute ass-kicker, and here he sure gave that sleazy dickhead heel an ass-kicking. Absolutely LOVED the early portions of the match where it was just Riddle beating the shit out of Cooper - Cooper sold it so well, and the way they transitioned that amazing ass-kicking into TK getting to work the heat on Riddle by having Dahlia interfere felt natural & came off super well. Great transition between the 2 segments. TK was really solid working on top, and Riddle was really good at selling the damage done to him. Really loved how it gradually built into Riddle kicking TK's ass once again, TK was clearly getting desperate in putting Riddle away, so he busted out some awesome, big moves. As it continued, Riddle got to get more & more offense in, and in the end, he finished what he started in the early parts of the match - he just kicked TK's ass, simple as that. Great match. ****
  2. I liked their match from last September much more (***3/4). It had a tighter psychology & I thought that Usos were better in that one than they were here. Not a big fan of the Alpha guys, they aren't very good in FIP segments & I really don't care for their offense for the most part. Jason Jordan can be a good hot tag, and I did enjoy him busting out some suplexes here - would've liked to see more of that actually. The Usos did an OK job working the heat, but as I mentioned, I thought that they were much more on point in that September match. The Uso Splash finisher nearfall was legitimately good though. **
  3. This had some signs of a pretty good match, but ultimately, it was a very forgettable spotfest. After the initial shine by Toyota, Hokuto got to do some work on top - and that was fine, nothing too compelling, but fine. I would've liked to see them continue that formula until Toyota got her big comeback in - but in reality, Toyota got the control back way too fast & started to get her shit in. Poor selling & her offense didn't do it for me. *1/2
  4. Gotta respect them going 60 minutes, they truly left all they got in that ring - but sadly it wasn't any compelling to watch. The transitions between the segments in this match were done so poorly; at one point Inoue is dominating & the next thing you know Toyota got her on her shoulders ready to throw her around. The selling wasn't bad, but it definitely could've been better, as some legitimately great selling could've elevated this bore of a match to better levels, but oh well. I never go into long ass matches thinking they will, guaranteed be great, but I usually find at least SOMETHING to like about them, but here I found absolutely NOTHING that I liked. It was just a bunch of random spots & moves thrown into together w/ no story being told. Truly felt like it went long just for the sake of going long, which is the worst vibe a match like this can have. Absolutely on my shortlist of matches I won't watch again. Fuck this.
  5. Enjoyed this as much as their Fastlane match. Very good stuff w/ Joe being awesome working on top & Zayn being awesome working from underneath with some great comebacks. ***1/2
  6. As with their March match from the same year, this never really clicked for me. Aja wasn't interesting working on top as the monster, Toyota wasn't interesting as the fiery babyface working from underneath. One thing that I liked about this match was the opening where Toyota dropped Kong with an awesome looking German right away. That was the only highlight of this for me. *
  7. This was a slower, longer, less effective & worse version of their '94 Tokyo Dome banger. This had pretty much the same structure (on paper) as that one w/ Aja Kong dominating most of it while Manami Toyota makes her action packed comebacks. Too bad none of it came off as any compelling to watch - it was just a bore to get through. *1/4
  8. This was WILD. After a little feeling out process, it becomes a straight up 15 minute David vs. Goliath spotfest. Super fast paced, blink & you'll miss, stiff hard hitting action. Loved it. ****
  9. I thought that Dynamite Kansai was clearly the standout in this - her work over Toyota & Yamada was pretty awesome. I think for the most part Toyota & Yamada did an OK, yet very forgettable jobs as faces in peril - their comebacks weren't really any interesting. My favorite part of the match was the first fall, which happened in the first 20 seconds of it. That was super awesome - and that is something I can't say about this match overall. **
  10. A match without any soul or flow. There's definitely LOTS of action packed into this one - but I failed to connect w/ the story they were trying to tell. Felt like just a bunch of movez for me. The selling also wasn't there, just a bunch of movez after movez. This wouldn't have felt out of place on a ROH show in 2011. *
  11. Loved this. Awesome mat work, the submissions ruled & this truly had the feel of a war where both men tried to wear each other out. ****
  12. This was quite something - the presentation was very interesting w/ them having a special lightning for the match & then there's a guy playing an instrument throughout the whole thing. Gotta say I have never seen anything like this in terms of presentation. The actual match was a banger, just Kana & Meiko beating the crap out of each other w/ brutal submissions & stiff strikes - loved the selling of both women too. Great match. ****
  13. 2 complete unknowns to me who made it sure that after watching this they aren't unknowns anymore. Hot damn what a match - very shoot stylish w/ them trading submissions, doing awesome mat work, busting out some fantastic submissions & counters. Absolutely loved it. ****
  14. As expected, this was very good. Loved the start with Shibata going right after Fale - it was awesome. Shibata gets a good shine in, which then leads to Fale working the heat on Shibata - I thought that Fale for the most part did a good job working on top, but I've seen him do better. Shibata was great selling Fale's work, and his comebacks were super great. The whole finishing stretch with him countering the Bad Luck Fall into a Sleeper & then just striking Fale down was FANTASTIC. Really good match. ***3/4
  15. This was just a total blast from start to finish. Loved the pre-match stuff w/ Io getting a big video package showcasing her evolution as a wrestler, and then the big streamer treatment she got. The match didn't tell an elite story or anything - but it was just so goddamn fun to watch. All women looked great w/ their great looking offense + Io & Mayu did some great selling as well. An absolute blast. ****
  16. The first half is your usual Shibata vs. Ishii action, just them slugging it out - and it's great, but what made this match reach ****+ levels to me is that in the 2nd half, they started out busting out all kinds of super awesome moments such as Shibata looking like the goddamn Grim Reaper while he is walking towards Ishii after not going down for his lariats (only for Ishii to lariat him one more time), Ishii busting out a FUCKING ARMBREAKER TO THE TAPED UP SHOULDER OF SHIBATA. Popped so hard for that. Ishii trying to break up the deadly Sleeper of Shibata w/ going after the arm was fantastic. Then the finishing sequence with Shibata just murdering Ishii was so damn good. And as a cherry on top of the cake, the post-match with Ishii trying to reach out to fight Shibata even more was so damn epic. ****1/2
  17. Very strong match. Ishii's comebacks were marvelous & SANADA was really good at cutting those off + his work on top in general was good. ***1/2
  18. This was tremendous. Kamaitachi's performance was top notch, loved his work over the knee of Maximo Sexy & his work on top in general was just fantastic. The atmosphere was pretty great too, really felt like a big time match up. One slight complaint is that I felt like Maximo's selling got a bit spotty towards the end, which is probably why I didn't go ****3/4 for this, but he still sold it enough (as in didn't completely no sell it) as he showed he was still clearly in pain by the damage Kamaitachi had done. A classic that has gone under the radar imo. ****1/2
  19. Really don't know what else I could say about it except that I thought that they worked the Fight Without Honor gimmick pretty much perfectly.
  20. I knew I would love this. And I did. Fantastic dynamic with KENTA being the hard hitting underdog who wanted to prove that he is on the same level as the Heavyweights - loved him attacking Suzuki while he was still making his entrance, that only pissed off MiSu, which lead to him working on top of KENTA for a pretty lengthy period of the match - it was really good. KENTA's hope spots & comebacks were real good, and I thought that his performance overall was very strong, really rocked the underdog role in this one. ****
  21. Another strong Juice big match performance! The dude has been impressive all year long so far, with strong performances against Cody, Goto & now Shibata. Loved Shibata's work over his arm, and then when it was time for Juice to get some of his shit in, he starts to throw these really great looking punches & chops. Loved those. And then Shibata cuts him off with a brilliant looking strike. From there on, the match kicks into the finishing gear and it was remained really damn good till the end. ***3/4
  22. We get a really good Speedball FIP segment, where Donovan Dijak & JT Dunn do some quality over him, which then leads to a FANTASTIC ACH hot tag - the man was seriously on fire. After that tremendous hot tag, we get your usual indy 50/50 action & it was all very enjoyable. Cody's manager shtick was pretty fun, too. ***1/2
  23. Roode in 2017 isn't very exciting in the ring, but here his opponent happened to be the best wrestler in the world, so I was pretty excited to see how it would go. And it went greatly - loved the match, thought that Ohno was fantastic in it, great selling, great shine, great comebacks, great facials. Roode's work over him was really good too, didn't come off as super boring like in the January match vs. Nakamura. ****
  24. This was a really damn great 4-5 minute match. Perfectly laid out w/ Owens getting some offense in by cheapshotting Brock while he is taking his shirt off - Owens came in with a game plan, but that game plan backfired on him because he was facing THE BEAST. Really fun match - legitimately the best one Owens has had in a long time. ***3/4
  25. This was my most awaited match up of the first round - and it absolutely ruled. Thatcher gave Kanemoto most of the match - Kanemoto got to showcase his awesome submissions & striking combinations, which Thatcher sold like a boss. He truly helped make Kanemoto look like million bucks w/ his tremendous facial expressions, selling & just by giving him the majority of the match. Really good stuff. ***3/4
