I'm actually very curious to know what people think about that.
-
He was one of my favorite parts of Battlebowl '93 though.
-
I tend to like modern indy style, over-the-top though it may be. That said, I can easily see some validity to the original post. THAT said, I'm not really a fan of telling someone that the style they like is worse than the style I like. Everyone wants something different from wrestling.
-
The Foley stuff in '06 and the Taker stuff in '08 would warrant a mention for some, myself included.
-
Not that the point doesn't have merit, but a comparison to Jarrett does seem a little extreme to me. I can certainly think of more Edge matches that I enjoy as opposed to Jarrett, in pretty much any category. He had his flaws but he had his moments too.
-
Just for the sake of argument, I would say a heel that gets cheered is better than a face that gets booed, because people who are cheering are at least having a good time. I know there's an argument that people have a good time booing faces as well but I feel like it's not as good an indicator.

Looking just at single matches and discounting DQs and countouts: Dean Ambrose defeats Bray Wyatt 5/21/15 Roman Reigns defeats Bray Wyatt 6/1/15 Dolph Ziggler defeats Bray Wyatt 8/2/16 So yes, but not many.

I love the 8/16/84 Bock/Martel match but I couldn't find a link... if you can find it, it's well worth the look.

I’m sure there are some that could suggest more than I, but I watched a good deal of Bock not long ago and here’s what I’d put out there: Nick Bockwinkel vs. Billy Robinson 12/11/80 AJPW Real World Tag League Day 13 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmY8IMmdhFo Nick Bockwinkel vs. Verne Gagne, AWA Championship 2/20/81 AWA Nick Bockwinkel vs. Otto von Wanz, AWA Championship 8/29/82 AWA Bockwinkel on the sick and demented fans Bockwinkel and the picking up of marbles Bockwinkel on those with cretinous minds https://youtu.be/KZc4G9GhAbQ?t=20m26s Bockwinkel and those who pray for rain Nick Bockwinkel vs. Wahoo McDaniel, AWA Championship 8/28/83 AWA http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xz7cde_nick-bockwinkel-c-vs-wahoo-mcdaniel-8-28-1983_sport?GK_FACEBOOK_OG_HTML5=1 Bockwinkel on respect and corruption Bockwinkel on obdurate recalcitrance Nick Bockwinkel vs. Mad Dog Vachon, AWA Championship 11/28/83 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xzv404_11-28-83-nick-bockwinkel-c-vs-mad-dog-vachon_sport Bockwinkel, like a ping pong ball Bockwinkel and the sleeper demonstration https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYcA83NkEUo Bockwinkel, against the world Bobby Heenan & Nick Bockwinkel vs. Blackjack Lanza & Mulligan 3/15/84 AWA Bockwinkel, on shame and defeat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATHL4EOJh4E Bockwinkel and the one thing others can’t match https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_V34R_DLraY

I agree with those saying this match was actually pretty good, bad finish notwithstanding.

Has any other top star had such a lackluster career like Orton?
Mrzfn replied to rzombie1988's topic in Pro Wrestling
I loved the way young Orton would react so huge to stuff. Just rewatched the Foley match and he's this phenomenal mix of cocky young star ready to take the world by storm and terrified kid who realizes too late he's in over his head. Even sillier stuff, like Taker coming back at Survivor Series '05, he gave an enormous reaction to. Now it's hard to imagine him doing more than staring blankly at anything that happens. -
True, and he did debut a whole new gimmick and started making some buzz before getting a title shot.
-
What talent? Seriously though, Anderson is a guy who seemed interesting for a hot second but never expanded his shtick or wrestling ability from the most basic level, in any way. The idea that he would be getting work in 2017 is crazy to me, let alone with ROH of all places.

The AJPW/Noah Spilt - Online fans perspective from that time
Mrzfn replied to SPS's topic in Pro Wrestling
Regarding the Kawada/Misawa relationship, I've heard stories of Kobashi having to go back and forth between their dressing rooms when trying to plan out matches because they wouldn't go in the same room together. Never knew if it was true but it's kind of a funny visual, though maybe a little sad too if it is true. -

Mrzfn replied to rzombie1988's topic in Pro Wrestling
I dug Orton on and off as late as 2011, but he's struck me as beyond useless since then. If I recall he got suspended twice in a row and it seemed to destroy his ability to give a single shit about any of his matches. I can believe after he retires people will rediscover his early career, but at his current rate he could probably phone it in for 15 more years if WWE asked him to. -
I've heard it at least into 85 but it peters off pretty quick.
-
This happened to me too and it's driving me freakin' nuts.
-
I'd take Mauro head and shoulders above anybody doing NXT commentary now, but I guess it's a matter of taste.
-
I'm ok with that but if we're inducing stables with short but hot runs, I really want to see the Dangerous Alliance in there.
-
Surely there is room for wrestling that aims to be goofy and fun, and reaches that goal, to also be considered good? I haven't seen the show but it sounds/looks like a very fun watch, no "irony" needed.
-
Which matches are you thinking of? Despite their good rep as a team I feel like I rarely hear specific matches mentioned. Maybe 'Mania 2? Whereas Davey has vs. Bret x2, vs. Owen, vs. HBK, Canadian Stampede, etc. I'm prepared to be wrong, just can't think of too many off the top of my head.
-
Because he's old timey and would fit in easily with the gimmick. I'm not saying they WILL put him there, but that's why people are saying it.
-
I'll share my own eclectic list of favorites by year. I'm only including matches I've watched or rewatched in the past few years, so as not to rely on hazy memory. Some of these years I definitely need to check out some of the "obvious" choices but overall I'm feeling good about it. I won't try to pre-80s because I simply haven't seen enough yet. [1986-07-27-WWF-Toronto, ONT] Randy Savage vs Ricky Steamboat
Mrzfn replied to paul sosnowski's topic in July 1986
One of my favorite WWF matches of '86, easily. Great stuff. -
I second that recommendation for the Maple Leaf match: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dW-QXiqpqP0
