[1998-12-28-WCW-Nitro] Ric Flair vs Eric Bischoff
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in December 1998
This is perfectly booked segment, to give WCW a decisive win over the nWo and end the year on a high note. Flair gets another crack at Bischoff, after being denied his rightful revenge the night before. The Horsemen are present to stop nWo interference, and the three of them and Arn keep the nWo from saving Bischoff's hide. When they're getting too outnumbered, DDP and Konnan help even the odds. The Giant finally makes it into the ring, only for the Macho Man to take him out. Flair does the Figure Four and Bischoff holds on as long as he can, but eventually has to give up. He holds out a tad longer than most TV jobbers, but not nearly as long as anyone who faced Flair in a legit TV or PPV main event. The show ends with an in-ring celebration between Flair, the Horsemen, Dusty Rhodes, Tony Schiavone, Larry Zybyszko, and a host of others.- 5 replies

Bubba and the Briscoes won the ROH Six Man Titles tonight. I assume it's due to TK O'Ryan getting hurt last night.

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
A few months back, there was talk in this thread about the streaming rights to TNA. Has anything ever happened as far as that goes? I can't imagine why they haven't tried to get Impact on Hulu already. -
I think an argument could be made for Adam Cole. While he's obviously more well known for what he's done in ROH. He was doing the heel shtick, including becoming the PWG Champion, close to a year before he did in ROH.
-
Aside from the Young Bucks and Joey Ryan, do they have any core talent left that's based in SoCal?
-
PWG has more or less taken ROH's place as the 'super indy' fed.

[2017-01-04-NJPW-Wrestle Kingdom XI] Katsuyori Shibata vs Hirooki Goto
MikeCampbell replied to GOTNW's topic in January 2017
I generally liked Shibata's performance here. As much as I hate the pop up and no selling stuff, the lariat stuff established his neck as a weak spot. But, Goto wasn't anything special to me. He had a few good spots to move that story forward, but, it was Shibata doing the heavy lifting here.- 10 replies

What an odd way to list the match. I assumed that Benoit was on Jericho's team, since it's so vague.

I'm with DMJ and Stro, the day after the Rumble when Punk walked out. I still get a chuckle out of the fact that they apparently wanted Bryan/Sheamus for WrestleMania XXX, because it sure seems like they had some kind of hard on for that match. - Scheduled for 'Mania XXVII, but moved to pre show and then turned into a Battle Royal - The 18 second title change at 'Mania XXVIII - The plan for 'Mania XXX before deciding to go all the way with Bryan - The night after 'Mania XXXI is when Sheamus came back and turned heel by attacking Bryan, and more than likely would have gone to an IC Title program if Bryan hadn't been hurt again.
-
Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. When Adam Cole won the TV Title from Roderick Strong in 2012, they put a video of the title change on the homepage of the website, even though it was at least two weeks away from airing. But, when they officially split Cole and O'Reilly earlier in the year, they still had them teaming up at house shows/DVD tapings until the show aired.

No love for Archie Gouldie or Yvon Robert
-
Have they done anything with those six man titles yet?
-
It's not that the things that Omega and Joey Ryan do are exposing the business. Like you said, people are well aware that the business isn't real. But that, doing the stupid shit like the dick spots and blow up doll, makes the business look stupid and that people won't take it seriously.

The Jim Cornette Experience
MikeCampbell replied to flyonthewall2983's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Bumping this, because Cornette just did a two part interview with Austin Idol that was tremendous! -
Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4
MikeCampbell replied to TravJ1979's topic in Pro Wrestling
I put the Danny Spivey shoot interview on, just for some background noise, and heard his story about the backstage fight with Adrian Adonis. Does anyone know if Meltzer ever reported anything about it in the WON? Based off what I've been able to find as far as searching for info on it. It seems to have taken place in May of '86 at the Flint, MI show. -
This the moment that I think I can pinpoint to me and my buddies realizing that we're too 'smarked out' for lack of better term, for our own good. We watched it live and were just like "This is cool, but why wouldn't they announce this ahead of time?" And, being big marks for London and Kendrick at the time, we were actually looking forward to the match with Regal/Taylor.

I just remember Michael Cole on commentary saying that Big Johnny looked much better on those videos that he'd watched, and my buddies and I totally cracking up!- 2 replies

[1991-04-27-WWF-Superstars] Jake Versus Quake, Oh That Poor Snake!
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
I never connected the dots before, but, yes, this does seem to be the start of the heel turn. The fallout from this was Jake getting a new snake, Damien's brother Luficer. And, when he turned on Warrior, he told him to open the coffin and find Lucifer waiting for him.- 10 replies

I only bothered watching this show for the Sugiura/Takaiwa title change, and found this hidden gem. It's based around Marufuji working over Shiosaki's arm, and being just as crafty as he was with Misawa's knee from the 12/10 GHC match. But, this time it actually matters! Shiosaki sells it the whole match, and when he tries to start a comeback, he'll throw chops and elbows with the other arm, and even remember to sell it when he's in control. There's a really nice part where Shiosaki wears Marufuji down with a sleeper, stuns him with an Oklahoma roll, and then tries a German suplex, but loses the bridge because of his arm. The finish is odd, but goes back to NOAH not really getting submission finishes over, Marufuji gets a juji-gatame out of a Tiger driver, and Shiosaki lingers for a little too long, and grabs at the ref, and the ref winds up calling it. With how much he'd been worked over, Shiosaki really should have maybe held out for about ten seconds and tapped out.
-
Wow, that's a real class act by Jericho.

[2006-12-10-NOAH] Naomichi Marufuji vs Mitsuharu Misawa
MikeCampbell replied to supersonic's topic in December 2006
I understand that Misawa didn't want to have to be the champion, but basically was forced to take the title here. And, it showed with how little he seemed to care about this match. -
Objectivity, to me, means being able to watch, analyze, criticize, etc. with an open mind. I don't care for Yoshinobu Kanemaru in the least. But, if I'm watching one of his matches, I don't automatically think that it'll be a bad match, or he'll be the reason that it's a bad match.

I second Soup's motion for Hashimoto/Iizuka vs. Ogawa/Murakami from 1/4/00.
