El-P
It's a good idea, but way too late in it's execution. It had its farewell after Bret returned. I don't know who could care at this point. Vince Russo.
Cross Face Chicken Wing
My mom finally said enough was enough and cleaned out the closet that was storing all of my wrestling VHS dubs. It's been 11 years since I moved out of my parent's house, and last night my mom and dad dropped off two large plastic bins, a large box and two smaller boxes filled with all of my old wrestling VHS dubs. I hate clutter and storing random shit in my house, so I will likely be throwing most of these tapes in the garbage. Even though I now have everything on DVD in much higher quality, it's still going to be weird throwing all of those tapes away. Tape trading provided many great memories growing up: The first time I watched the "Best of Starrcade" VHS and becoming hooked on 80s era Crockett, watching Super J-cup '94 and becoming a workrate snob, waiting for random ECW epidsodes to arrive, and arguing with my parents about buying more tapes, shipping costs and getting a second VCR. How many of you have departed with your VHS collections? Was it difficult?
Blehschmidt
I am actually facing the same situation right now CFCW. I've got all of my VHS boxes in the basement, I don't have a working VCR, and we are trying to purge stuff because we may be moving soon. I have all of the stuff I care about on DVD....but I remember the time and effort it took to get all of those, and I hate to just throw them away! I think I am going to allow myself to keep my master copies of Crockett Cup 87 and Bash 89 as "collectors items" and toss the rest. That seems fair....right? El-P
I'm not tossing the hundreds of tape bought from Lorefice, Arnold and Lynch away. I have no idea of to covert them to DVD at this point, but I should find a way. Or not. Anyway, they are collecting dust in my room at my parent's house, and it make me kinda nostalgic thinking how much fun I had when I received my tapes in the mailbox every three months or so... kjh
To be fair, it's one of the best DVD ideas they've had in a long time. Shawn Michaels is great, but how many career retrospective DVDs can you have? I mean you could probably squeeze out one more, but they really need to start thinking out of the box for DVD titles, given that all the biggest names have at least one career compilation. khawk20
How many of you have departed with your VHS collections? Was it difficult? I still list mine and convert them for trades when asked. When I convert them, if they are relevant to me or my collection I dub a copy for myself and the VHS title comes off the list. My collection takes up space but it's well hidden for the most part so it's not a big deal..unless I have to find a misplaced tape, then all hell breaks loose. Marty
Jim Ross announced that the WWE is planning on releasing a DVD based on the Montreal Screwjob later this year. Both Shawn and Bret have signed off on participating. Looks like it won't be just about Montreal, but a career retrospective of their feud over the years. There's a lot they could cover here and it has potential to be entertaining. The tag feud, Bret's singles rise followed by Shawn's, Bret as top guy with Shawn waiting in the wings, Shawn taking over, all the behind-the-scenes stuff in 96-97, Montreal (of course). Then there's the post-97 stuff and how one can contrast their careers. Shawn's appeared ended early, while Bret chugged along in WCW, but then Bret's ended and afterwards Shawn came back. If the interviews they taped are as good as JR, Bret and Shawn are all saying, this could be fun.

Alas. Buy the iPPV then, Cox . Many folks bemoan the Tuesday night shows, but they sell nearly every ticket when they run BB Kings. EVOLVE always sticks to a 2 to 2 and a half hour limit with the quick entrances, etc, too, so you won't be up too late. I really dig the venue. It's pricey for food/drinks, but most everything in the city usually is. I'm looking forward to calling a live Finlay match and Sami has been on fire all year, particularly in WxW's 16 Carat tourney, CZW's BOTB and his Gabe-promotion matches. Dylan Waco
Yeah Sami is probably the best guy on the indies so far this year and he's working against Jesus Christ so that should be at minimum at incredibly great match. Of course it's the week AFTER my vacation to North Jersey. Fuck

Of course it's the week AFTER my vacation to North Jersey. Fuck I'm really glad EVOLVE went with Finlay. He's pretty costly for a promotion that tries to stick to a budget, but I hope someone like him gets more eyes on the what EVOLVE is trying to do and hopefully people opt to pick up the iPPV instead of pirating it (which I'm not gonna pretend doesn't happen). Finlay's a great wrestler to get in to have a solid match with one of the established guys on the roster (Sami) and take him up a level, rather than say a Low Ki (who I love, but lets be real), who would likely just guzzle whomever his opposition was and then leave him less over once Ki leaves. jdw
God I'm glad that Claudio beat Ki out here to retain the PWG title. My worst nightmares of 2011: * Joey Ryan over Claudio * Low Ki over Claudio * Eddie Edwards over Claudio So far I've avoided the first two. smkelly
Sami is probably excited to face Finlay, and will be after the match too. But I'm guessing once the adrenaline rush has ended is when Callihan will feel the effects of a strong style match against one of the toughest wrestlers ever. Phil Schneider
Sure, but watch Callihan v. Necro, Callihan v. Ki, Callihan v. Hero or nearly any Callihan match in the last couple of years. He takes huge beatings. I am sure Finlay is going to lay it in, but that is what Callihan does.
smkelly
I know Sami can take a beating. I've seen the stuff with him on the MOTYC sets. But...Finlay encapsulates a different kind of ass beating. I feel a little bit of worry for Finlay too. The dude is not a spring chicken anymore. He might push things a little too far and get injured himself.
NintendoLogic
It seems like they always do a lot of gimmick shows during the summer because that's when USA wants the three-hour shows. I don't think they're really panicking, probably more of a case of the writers relying on some gimmicks to get through all of the TV that they're producing now. I distinctly remember the WON saying that moving up the draft was a panic move in response to Edge's retirement. Speaking of which, they're now reporting that Hero and Castagnoli had WWE tryouts and they both went well. This ought to be interesting, since we all know how much the WWE loves tag teams and guys who made names for themselves outside of the WWE machine. smkelly
Well, to be fair, Danielson has not been handled that well. Many would say his constant one-sided beatdowns by the Miz when Miz was champion was a good thing. But I'm not among that consensus. Though, maybe his bookings haven't been quite as bad as my bias has told me it was. I mean, it's no secret that Vince has never done great for his non-home grown talent like he has for his actual built-up workers. Guest Slickster
How do indies afford to run in New York? From what someone on TBH posted, the athletic commission regulations are among the strictest: - $20,000 surety bond - $7,500 medical insurance/$100,000 accidental death - $475-$2,500 license fee - A doctor must be on scene at all times at the promoter's expense - $1,000,000 spectator insurance - 3% tax taken from the gate for each show - promotion must also provide a spit bucket for the wrestlers In addition to the other fees, NYSAC inspectors have a reputation of demanding bribes. How can any small-time promotion drawing 300 people every month possibly afford these expenses?
smkelly
Naive business people, probably. I found the spit bucket thing funny (is that really true, seems rather odd). Because if that were the case, then ROH would never make money running in New York and never would again after the first time. How in the hell did Heyman run in New York? Those numbers gotta be wrong somehow. More for ROH than ECW because Heyman probably bribed officials by offering up his roadies.
Jingus
How can any small-time promotion drawing 300 people every month possibly afford these expenses? Those gigantic insurance figures aren't the fees which the promoter must pay. They're the liability limit on the insurance policy. The million-dollar spectator insurance can pay out up to a million bucks in case of a real disaster; it doesn't actually cost a million bucks, whatever the price is it's much less than that. Same thing with the medical & accidental death insurance, and maybe the surety bond too. The license fee must be paid, I have no idea why some licenses are apparently over five times as expensive as others. As for the doctor, nobody said he actually has to be paid a fair salary, nor that he has to be a specialist in this particular field. They can do what ECW did, and get some podiatrist who happens to be someone's friend or a mark for wrestling and just have him hang out and be the official doc.
