Is it too hard to edit that sort of shit out?

RF doesn't know the word editing. It's amazing how awful his videos still are to this day.

Getting old sucks.

Well, I would say getting old is cool (I sure hope I will get old eventually and not die at 40 or something), but losing your brain and your health is tragic indeed.

For those who listened to Dave and I's podcast on Montreal wrestling history with Pat Laprade, Pat and Bertrand Herbert's book has been released and is available for order. I got my copy today and will review it in a separate thread. You can take a peak inside on Amazon and the book looks great. The official hard launch for the book isn't til the beginning of Feb, and when that happens we will have Pat on the show again.

I may have mentioned it before, but it's getting really scary/sad watching Super Porky still trying to work in 2012. He's never been mistaken for a cruiserweight, but watching him even trying to run the ropes now is painful. He's supposed to be used for comedy, but all I can think of is how it looks like he's going to die at any moment. I doubt this is like WWE continuing to put Khali in matches to get him as much money as possible before he falls apart, and I can't figure out why CMLL doesn't just put him in the office somewhere.

I don't know if he still is but the only reason they brought him back is because he was sponsored by some company. He also used to be much heavier than he is now.

There are things that can be done to improve the quality of lucha discussion on the web.

But without meaning to insult individual prowrestlingonly posters I think the last thing lucha discussions is fifteen low content devils advocate threads, posts complaining about the current trend of people thinking 90s EMLL was better than AAA, long MJH posts about how good Konan is, or complaints about the Brazos fattness from the ex-obese.

Called that one.

I went to a Raw brand show last night. It was fun. Punk got 100% heel heat so he was probably loving every second of it. Secondly, Cena got a huge face reaction. Because on the t.v he gets that split reaction . Is it the norm for the house shows that he is the super baby face. I will say the show is geared towards kids.

From my experience the last three years attending shows in Georgia (which I admit has a more traditional babyface -yay heel - boo stance) is that TV really accentuates the booing that Cena gets. For all shows I have been to I would say at worst the dynamic has been a 90% pro 10% anti Cena and this was even at Wrestlemania with more hardcores in attendance.

"Following his third tour of duty in Vietnam, Sgt. Slaughter retired from service to pursue his life long dream of wrestling. After gaining the world championship belt and super stardom, the Sgt then moved onto rock star, monster truck tug of war champion and GI JOE. They just don't make them like they used to."

Damn if the isn't a riot. :)

Was going to ask this question in the Meltzer thread since it is currently on the track of discussing lucha but this is Comments, so Im asking here. What is with luchadors naming themselves after random things... Black Homes/Houses or 100 Bucks. I mean, guys like El Santo has the perfect wrestling monikers. But its just gotten bonkers in the past twenty or so years.

Just asked my wife this same thing a few days ago, she is from Central America and grew up watching Lucha. Her answer was "Probably because they are drug addicted rapist pieces of shit".

There's probably a better answer out there...

Seems appropriate for me to steal Bill Simmons's line in his mailbag columns, (Afraid to say anything...) :P

Negro Casas is the wrestling name of Jose Casas Ruiz son of Pepe Casas. He is dark and a guy who was inspired by wrestler Negro Navarro.

In general with pop culture, it isn't a good idea to do literal translations. Hulk Hogan's gimmick isn't that he's a giant traditional Navajo house.

What I don't understand about lucha names are some being in English. "Blue Panther"? Why not "Azul Pantera" (or whatever the actual translation would be if that isn't it)?

Diamante Azul being in the same promotion is almost like a lampshade of this. "We're blatantly ripping off a legend so we'll have his name in Spanish instead! No one will ever know!"

I don't know if Paco has a moustache, but I imagine him twirling one like a silent movie villan at that point.

Also my comment on Porky wasn't just a complaint about his weight, dude looks legit unhealthy and it seems like a matter of time before his heart explodes in the middle of Arena Mexico. He's pretty much the lucha Buddy Rose at this point, except I'm pretty sure Buddy was more mobile at the end of his career.

Actually I think the entire point was that they did want ppl to know since they're pissed at Blue Demon and wanted to rub it in his face.

and it seems like a matter of time before his heart explodes

He allready has had a few heart attacks in the past

The Hogan part of his name is because Vince Sr. wanted to bill him as Irish, and the Hulk part was to identify him as big and strong like The Incredible Hulk. So in his case, a literal translation works fine.

Anyway, if I'm not mistaken, Panther went with the English version of his name because there already was a luchador named Pantera Azul.
