WWE Network... It's Here

I will say this:

For years, we've been complaining about how every PPV match has a five minute recap/hype video before it even though everyone watching knows what the story is else they wouldn't have bought the PPV. That said, if they're not going to put up old Raws, then it's pretty useful to have these when you're watching some random PPV from 2006 or what not.

It is kind of a damned-if-you-do thing, isn't it?

I know that when I finally get around to catching up on the 2012-13 PPVs, I won't likely be watching the RAWs and SDs with them. So I will find the recap vids helpful.

I watched two things on the Network last night.

Legends of Wrestling: WrestleMania: Nothing special, but not a bad time. A bunch of fun WM stories, but probably nothing new to anyone here. Pat Patterson had some nice anecdotes about his own WM involvement.

Countdown: Biggest Blunders: I thought Chris Jericho and Daniel Bryan both came off badly, obnoxiously insulting various wrestlers and moments. Daniel Bryan about the Ultimate Warrior: "Voodoo must only work if you're stupid." I groaned. It just sounds bad coming from a "nice guy" like him. C.M. Punk was the very first clip shown (before they got into the actual top ten - no he wasn't one of the ten). Shockmaster WASN'T the #1 blunder, surprisingly enough. This attempted to be "fair and balanced" overall, but the praise came across as fake and hollow to me. I am not a huge fan of these Countdown shows - they're nothing special from what I've seen - but this one was okay.

Bryan came off especially bad. Jericho really cracked me up at one point (though I forget when, maybe during Adamle's segment which was the best), but he didn't come off that great in general.

Also, I tried to watch a Legends roundtable with Flair. I lasted maybe half of it, then turned it off. He is awful and terribly inconsiderate. The asskissing is just as bad. I did watch another roundtable, worst characters, that I enjoyed. I think I watched that on 24/7 years ago but it was still a fun hour.

All in all the thing was pretty funny but they should not have done the hit-piece like segments about Sid, Steiner and Adamle. And who the hell is the Sideshow Bob look-alike and what's his connection to wrestling?

I seem to remember you saying you had no way of giving your credit card info when setting up your account. Could that be why?

I think they were trying to credit me after double charging me the first month and in the process, canceled me entirely. Anyway, I had to re-register. The call center folks could not help me at all.

Just watched the "Outside the Ring" segment of Cena on ESPN. Is it fair to say that they've never had a better spokesman then him? I remember seeing him on Larry King after the Benoit thing and while I don't remember the finer points of what he said, his manner kind of blew me away after years of watching Vince more or less making an ass of himself on television.

Their was an update to the Roku last night . The year stamps are still a problem. Though they added another feature called reccomended. Furthermore now Starcade 84, and the Wrestlemania 3 rewind plays on VOD . It doesn't kick you off the network . At least that's some progress.

They've added several Boston Garden shows and a Houston show from October '86, but they have mostly been one hour versions. Still no clue what the purpose of those cut downs are.

Maybe to make them more palatable to people who want a casual nostalgia kick?

Sam Roberts was one of the talking heads on the Countdown show? Makes sense, he has some sort of "in" with WWE with all the interviews with current talent he puts up. I also think Sam looks like an 80s era Gary "U.S." Bonds.

That's good news. I've been trying to watch the Mania 3 rewind for the last few days and no such luck. I'll give it a shot in the next few days.

So are there any real chances of things going smoothly for Wrestlemania? It seems people are still having problems with the live stream and at this point I don't know if WWE can do anything to avoid problems even if they have a good estimate of how many people will watch Mania live.

I watched the Rivalries episode of LoW last night (found it through Schedule because the Roku app sucks). A fun, lively hour and a half. Nothing new for any of us but still entertaining. It was interesting to hear them talk about the behind-the-scenes feud between the Bulldogs and the Rougeaus. Again, old info if you've read Dynamite Kid's book, etc., but it was still cool to get multiple perspectives about all of the players. The other feuds they highlighted were all on-camera rivalries (with Bret/Shawn being both, of course).
