My review for the Last Battle of Atlanta:

I have a feeling most people are going to disagree with my feelings on it.

I think opinions on the match vary wildly. When it first hit I heard a lot of podcasters and read a lot of opinion makers share your feelings. I personally never got it. I loved the match and on second and third watch found it even grew on me. That said, I can see why you feel the way you do. I don't think you are at all alone on an island on this one.

Did you guys ever see Super Porky doing real MMA? He fought for Deep once (Canek and El Solar did Vale Tudo).

One of the funnier endings to a fight I've witnessed.

_______

@SPS, I'll get to your match and your nomination tonight!

Grimmas, your match for this round is the television title match of Alex Wright vs Arn Anderson from Slamboree 5/21/95. A personal favorite and I have always had a soft spot for Alex Wright. Let me know what you think.

I wrote up a beautiful review, but it got lost due to a pc bug.

Very odd structure with Wright dominating, but it was a good way to get him over. Arn could only gain advantage by outsmarting him and it didn't last long, until the GREATEST FINISH EVER!! Fuck yeah!

Really cool and interesting match. Thanks for the pick.

@SPS

You said you weren't too familiar with Lucha (and I think you are/were into deathmatch so why not try a slight bit of both?)

Thanks Rah, I am a fan of the old deathmatch groups like FMW and although grew out of it once CZW and the like took over, still enjoy some of the style as long as it's doesn't make me shake my head at the stupidity of some spots you see now.

I am not familiar with much lucha outside of the major names and companies and the stuff that crosses over to North America and Japan so this was a real way to dip my toes in so to speak and try it out.

I posted my review here in the match discussion archive(had to make a new topic as it hadn't been reviewed yet)

http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/40893-demus-vs-wotan-beard-vs-hair-generation-xxi-06012018/

and here was my overall opinion afterwards,

"So overall opinion this match reminded me of something you would have seen on an ECW card in 1995 with wild brawling and sometimes reckless and botched spots. Demus seemed to play his role well and Waton was okay but both really didn't sell much at the points I though mattered and the whole struggle to set up the finish with that plywood sheet came off as clumsy and contrived and a simple table would've probably cut out all the nonsense and struggle.

Overall as a very casual lucha fan I give it **1/4 stars, it had some bright spots with a pretty receptive and noise making crowd and the finish once it got off looked great with Demus crashing through that board despite it's non threatening appearance. Lucha fans more familiar with this promotion and these two would probably like it more than me but it didn't feel like a total waste of time or offensive to sit through and I'd like to see more lucha as there must be talents I'm missing out on due to this blindspot."

I was given a Memphis studio TV match between Jerry Lawler and Ric Flair:

http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/30920-ric-flair-vs-jerry-lawler-memphis-wrestling-082982/

Lots of promo work. All quite textbook stuff. Not much to write about I thought but it's always a joy to check out these highly efficient territory angles.

Wahoos Leg assigned me Andre the Giant vs. Stan Hansen from AJPW on September 23rd, 1981.

His take on the match: "pro wrestling as a kaiju monster movie."

That is about as perfect a description as there could ever be.

Arnold Skaaland is at ringside for Andre as his manager. The crowd is white hot from the get-go!

This is far from the dominant Andre the Giant performance I thought I'd see. Even though there's obviously a size difference between Andre and Hansen, they are equals throughout the match - they go tit-for-tat all the way. It begins with them clubbing the shit out of each other!

What struck me the most was the fantastic selling and agility of both men. I was expecting more of a lumbering monster match, but that's definitely not the case here.

BTW, if you think Hulk Hogan was the first wrestler to bodyslam Andre, think again! Stan Hansen does it with ease here. In fact, whenever he has the advantage, he tosses Andre around like a ragdoll. And Andre does the same to Stan as well.

During the middle of the match, it's seemingly stopped momentarily and officials jump in. Since I don't understand Japanese, I'm not sure what that was all about.

After a spell, the match continues.

The finish seems sudden. Outside the ring, Andre seemingly reaches under the apron (proving that's not a new spot) and pulls out an elbow pad. Am I to assume the elbow pad is loaded? Who knows. Back inside the ring, Andre uses his loaded (?) elbow to clothesline the referee for no reason that I can see. But what the heck, Andre and Skaaland are obviously the heels here, so why not? The match is thrown out. Andre and Hansen brawl wildly as officials storm in.

Awesome stuff!

Today's "great workers" could learn a lot from a match like this about how to really work.

Rah, since I don't know what services you have I've plucked a match from online. I don't know you well at all and I see you like Lucha, but since I know little about it I'm giving you Dan Severn vs Tarzan Goto for the NWA title at IWA KOTDM 08/20/1995.

Nifty little match that adds a little reasoning to why Goto was sitting ringside to Tajiri/Severn. Fun section where Tarzan near stabs Dan with a beer bottle. Bet he didn't have that in UFC.

Week 3. I tried to pick up people who wanted to join since last time. The deal is the same. I did a quick check to make sure we didn't have pairings from Weeks 1 or 2 but that's not going to last forever. Even if you're behind, still try to select a match for your opponent. If you need to sit out a week at some point, let me know. We have 26 people now, which is nuts, so if I missed you, let me know. I think people have been enjoying things so far, so thanks for participating.

You mentioned in your review for Rey/450 that you hadn't seen any non-80s WWC blood-letting, well let that change! I'm not sure it's a MotYC but it's one of the most fun matches I watched in 2016.

I know I'm behind but no worries, I'll keep a backlog from the matches given if I'm late. I should have my review of Luger vs Spivey from Wrestlewar 1991 in a couple of days.

SPS, I picked for you a classic feud, probably the biggest in Montreal during the summer of 1985. The follow-up to the St-Jean-Baptiste Massacre between the Rougeau Brothers and the Garvins, from International Wrestling/Lutte Internationale.

For MattD, I picked Tully Blanchard vs Don Kernodle, 05/11/85. I thought this was a really fun match, interested to see your take on it.
