AEW Fyter Fest

Between this match, the Allin match and the Juice Robinson match, Moxley is on a mission to erase whatever preconceived notion of who you thought he was. For a garbage match, it had tons of fun and nasty spots but it was still a garbage match. However, it was better than any street fight or gimmick match he had in WWE.

The main event was repulsive. Taking off an opponent's boots so you can drive his bare feet into thumbtacks can only be described as torture porn. That kind of garbage has no place in a civilized society.

Well, it happened in America.

Overall a pretty good show but the bad stuff was really bad. The Librarian stuff is like "worst angle of the year" WWE-level stuff and Nakazawa-Jebailey was embarrassing. And for God's sake no more chairshots to the head (thankfully per a tweet from Cody no concussion). But the rest of the main card was really good. Mox-Janela was a plunderfest cranked up to 11, the 6-man was a great spotfest, Cody-Allin dragged a bit in the middle but delivered in the end, the 4-way and triple-threat matches were fun and smartly-booked, and CIMA-Daniels was a fun opener.

So as an aside. My dog decided to raid the bathroom trash and needed emergency surgery this week to remove an obstruction. I am feeding her her dinner of chicken with hot dog chunks because she's being super picky. I am broke as fuck but my dog is alive and we've spent all day watching MLW and now AEW/

I hope your dog is okay brother.  I have two rescue dogs myself, and up until recently I had three, but one passed away.  I end up spending a small fortune on my guys, one has a "luxating patella" which means his knees keep dislocating, so I've got him on an anti-inflammatory and a glucosamine supplement, both of which are very expensive.  The other one has seizures and arthritis so he is on Gabapentin and an anti-inflammatory.  That's not even getting into how much I had to spend on the one who just passed away.  A lot of the time I end up spending more on Dog Medication and Dog Food than I do on myself, but I love those guys and I don't regret it a bit.  I hope yours makes a full recovery from surgery. :)

Differentiate yourself from WWE, do not push Tye fn Dillinger as a main eventer.

Agreed on the preshow being completely awful once again. Most of the main show delivered.

Agreed.  I was pumped thinking they were going to do Darby/Cody again in Chicago and then Tye Dillinger walked out.  Do that match in Canada or something.

Also, totally wild that my most anticipated matches going into both AEW shows were the Cody Rhodes matches.  Literally couldn’t stand the guy before.  At this rate I am going to be walking into the Sears Centre with platinum blonde hair.

Yeah, she turned the post surgery corner on Friday and started eating again. It's just managing her until she heals and can have the stitches out. Thankfully we were able to afford the bills to get her fixed up.

If they tell a good story with the Cody and Spears thing then I'm happy enough with it, although he is the epitome of a WWE reject. There's plenty of material for them to build something good up and like yourself, I've grown to trust Cody as a big stage performer in these storyline driven matches.

Mixed bag of a show.

Darby Allin vs Cody was shaping up to be match of the night but the idiotic apron bump took me out of it. The post match was mind bogglingly stupid. The unprotected chair shot was unnecessary ego wanking but it's the fact  it made Darby into such an afterthought that kills it for me.

The pre-show was a shambles, genuinely worse than anything from WWE I've seen in ages. It took the wind out of the crowd too. They should be building anticipation for the show not goofing off.

Some good matches on the show and the production is impeccable. Feels like there's too many cooks in the kitchen though. I hope they find a more solid vision before they get on tv.

I love how salty some people are, all because of an undercard comedy gimmick and a novelty match that was there because it was a joint show with a video games convention, on a pre-show (of a free-streamed show) mind you. Two of which contains subtle jabs at WWE btw (Leva Bates used a pedigree which was kicked out like it was a transition spot / "No untrained guy would beat a professional wrestler, now that would be embarrassing"). I admit the Dark Order is a miss thus far. I have no idea who these guys are, still.

Show was terrific. Let's ponder for a minute, it's only the *second* show for the promotion. Compare that to ROH or TNA's second shows. Or ECW's. People are nitpicking and comparing everything to WWE, but what was so similar ? Stupid backstage segment ? Corporate talk ? "X is trending !" ? A zillion different angle shots per minutes ? Putting on stuff the audience doesn't want to see ? Patterned matches ? Exactly none of that. Of course it's gonna look similar to some degree. Unless you're doing Lucha Underground or shooting like NJPW.

The 6-men was easily MOTN and bordering MOTYC to me. Just crazy, insane spotfest, with the cool video games references (I'm not even a gamer, but come on, Street Figher 2 outfits and hadoken spots ? I'm there).

Cody vs Allin was excellent and a great way to establish Allin. It was not supposed to be an even match, let's have some hierarchy and establish characters. Yeah, Darby wants to die apparently, that bump was sick. He named himself after G.G. Allin, ok ? Post-match angle was efficient (although you could almost feel something went wrong). Shawn Spears is already more meaningful than his former WWE character ever was. It's not like he's gonna be a main eventer either, let's settle down, salty people. Let's forget the WWE for a while and just see what they do with what they have.

Super solid opener, which is what you want. Loved the women's match, which took some time but built into something really good. Rose is still green, but those two big spots were impactful in term of getting her over. Love that they are gonna push japanese women too and not use them just to put over their monster, who still need to learn (and hell, that's even the angle).

That 4-way was excellent, and MJF's promo was gold. Glad to see him showcase his talent on a bigger stage. I wonder for how long he's stuck with MLW. The guy is a star. Jungle Boy is Sam Houston. Hopefully he turns out better, but that's him, he's gonna draw the younger audience. Havoc not doing paper cut is a much better version of himself. The result was predictable, as Hangman is gonna be a star of the promotion, as he should.

Mox vs Janela was exactly what you'd want. Too bad Penelope wasn't with Janela, but I guess they have other plans for her. Anyway. I remember that Renee Young twitted something about Mox asking her if she had ever see a Necro Butcher match before. Soooo, that was the reason I guess, taking inspiration. Bad Boy Hido was doing the same bit in the early 00's already, walking on tacks. Janela is a sick fuck, but he's fun as hell because of his personality. Mox spitting tacks was quite the visual. Post match angle was perfect.

I really like the fact they are announcing the time for every match like in Japan. Good idea, that. Makes your occasional draw not awkward (well, I guess they had the idea because they wanted a draw).

Yeah, second show only, people. They have all the time in the world to improve and correct their mistakes and missteps. Believe the hype...

And now he's doing the G1. Yeah, you feel the guy really wanted to get the fuck out and try as many things as possible because it's fun to him.

Sounds like Boy Tony needs to get his investment in check. Insider “comedy” segments, some little clown falling backwards on to the apron, unprotected chair shots to the head by wwe jobbers and czw barefoot thumbtack nonsense in the main event. Outside of the all-in propaganda unit this shit has no appeal to the wider public. Daddy Shad needs to have a word with his boy.

AEW is claiming that the chair was gimmicked but something went wrong. If you watch the footage, Cody does appear to instinctively flinch right before impact, causing him to get hit by the edge of the chair rather than the presumably gimmicked seat. Of course, it would have been simpler and safer for Cody to just put his hands up to block the chair like a normal person would if they saw someone swinging a blunt object at their head. But hey, if he wants to scramble his brain to try to get Tye Dillinger over, more power to him.

I noticed a way to show disdain toward a worker is to use his former name. Plenty of people do it in various context. Funny that.

And well, apparently Spears was a mentor to Cody when he started in OVW, and Cody never forgot. So yeah, maybe he want to give back now that he can.
