The main ruled and I’m glad FTR went over clean. This past couple of months has been a great push for them and now they finally feel like the team we all wanted 18 months ago when they showed up. Christian is so great and I wish he was 10 years younger so could work a busier schedule. The Hardys, on the other hand, need to learn their limitations. They cant be doing the wild shit they did when they were 25 but it does lend their matches a certain atmosphere as nearly every bump and spot in that match looked super nasty. Matt was just crashing through tables at weird angles and was just thudding off the floor. They should cut the flips and dives and just become the 2022 Moondogs.

Jay Lethal is doing it for me in recent weeks too. Enjoyed pretty much all of his in-ring work and now he’s coming across really well as a deluded, bitter heel that will be demolished by Joe in due course. Have they said what form the Owen Tournament is taking? I assume it’s a knockout but has it been confirmed? Does Khan think he can book a US G1?

Overall, the only real downsides to this show were Sammy and Tay continuing to be hugely unlikable. Even the live crowd were booing them by the end. And Hart/Shida was kind of messy but not to the point where it was completely falling apart.

No Daddy Magic promo means it can never be a truly great episode though.

Why, when stakes get high and things get personal, do wrestlers settle in the ring with no-dq matches? Wrestling is a sport and is about being the best in-ring competitor. When it gets too bad, with backstage attacks, surely faces should file a police complaint. Breaking rules to get to heels and not respecting the rules of the mat is such heelish behaviour.

The rich and powerful tend to own the authorities. When there is no justice, sometimes you have to break the rules. That’s the way it goes in comics, movies, wrestling, and sometimes real life.

Cole/Christian was great, as was FTR/Young Bucks. Eddie Kingston is the man. Jade has grown a lot in her time as TBS champ. Glad to see some movement on the Julia Hart angle, as odd as it is. Samoa Joe looked pretty good. The Team Taz vs Keith Lee and Swerve tag match is something I’m looking forward to. Great show especially considering there was no Punk and no Blackpool Combat Club.

Based on the adverts Excalibur does during AEW programming, the tournaments starts in Long Island on May 11 I believe. With the finals being at Double or Nothing, I assume it's an 8-Men single elimination format for both.

Two underrated spots from the tag last night:

Dax doing the fake punch out into a DDT spot but doing a piledriver instead

Dax catching Nick flipping out of the air. You never think of FTR as power guys but the strength on display was pretty nuts. He did it with one of the Briscoes and it was oh shit there, too.

Man what a run FTR is having. I wonder if TK would dare to put the titles on reDragon so they can drop them to FTR as soon as possible. The tag titles need some interesting and consistent storylines, instead of random big matches with some title changes here and there. Babyface FTR could make that work, I'm sure.

Funny how not too long ago some people out there were saying FTR should never be babyfaces since they are so great as heels, and then they put on a babyface performance last night like they were the Rock n Rolls on NWA WorldWide in 1986.

Apparently, the live crowd booed the fuck out of him during that segment. It didn't come across on TV, but there are multiple reports from people attending live that said he was roundly booed.

It was actually pretty evident on the Fite version, you could hear loud boos during that segment. Yeah. They are heels already. Turn them.

Meanwhile

Indeed. Two all-time great tag-teams having a classic match on TV.

And what a week for FTR, as it's two classics in the same week, as babyfaces mind you. So lucky to be able to watch this as it's happening.

Pro-wrestling was the best now.

Bruh turn them heel but please be done with the ATT program. Give Scorpio his decisive win and let the Sour Couple to be the heels they absolutely can be.

Ethan Page babyfacing that segment was wild. The only way this Sammy vs ATT deal works is as a heel vs heel program. And they almost never work.

"I pray you don't end up like Tay Conti" isn't a babyface promo. At all. In the real world, this is straight misogynist asshole who tell women what to do with their bodies. Slut shaming was great babyface stuff in the 80's, when babyfaces would also sexually assault valets who "liked it !".

Doesn't change the fact Sammy & Tay should be heels, but because they made themselves really unlikeable, not because Tay likes to have lots of sex or something. (and really, Sammy being a natural heel just rubbed off on Tay, who's more of a babyface at heart it seems)
