Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3

Katsuhiko Nakajima was 15 or 16 when he debuted for Choshu's World Pro or whatever it was called. Gran Naniwa was at most 16 when he debuted IIRC. There are probably many female Japanese wrestlers that debuted in their mid-teens. Lucha probably has too many to count.

Didn't Harry Smith debut really young as well? Maybe TJ Wilson/Tyson Kidd too.

Figured I'd crosspost this here since nobody's gonna look in my BR articles thread but the topic is interesting...

I know I haven't been bothering to link anything here lately but I'm curious what people think of the epiphany I had at the end of the article:

WWE's Lack of Faith in Daniel Bryan Is a Self-Fulfilling Prophecy.

Most of it is what you expect. Then I realized something I decided to end the article on, albeit less colorfully and detailed that I'm going to say it here:

"Daniel Bryan is too ugly to be a star. He's too short to be a real man...probably has a small penis. Watch his wacky adventures in love with his fiance, a woman we sell to you as the epitome of female beauty and hotness who you should want to fuck!"

Did anyone think about this for five seconds? Or is it proof they think Brie is the "ugly" Bella twin? 'Eew, she's dating Daniel Bryan. And she's a "granola girl.' I bet she wouldn't shave her armpits if she wasn't on TV in her underwear each week. Haha, Bryan is so ugly he can't get a girl with big fake tits like Cena can."

How many people do we know of that debuted before being 16?

Off the top of my head I recall Terry Gordy, Chris Candido and Rey Jr. all debuting before hitting 16. Any others?

Majority of the joshi stars started when they were 15-16 or close to that age range, by product of the time when it was mandatory for them to retire by 26. And even today decades removed from that rule being in effect it's still fairly common for the women to debut in their mid to late teens.

Was there a lot of boozing and drugging in Japanese wrestling like there was in America?

Never hear many drug stories but sure plenty of drinking

that's just life tho, not wrestling specific...

If you include steroids in "drugging" then it defintiley goes on over there. Do a before and after of some of the heavyweights in New Japan or NOAH from their rookies years to afterwards and you'll see a huge difference.

Really good piece. Hey, maybe that's why they showed Brie "without makeup" in the morning in that Total Divas video, because I guess that way she appears "ugly"… (well, she looks much better natural to me than with tons of makeup).

I thought Nikki was the fat twin? ;) Maybe the Brie & Daniel Bryan partnership works on the level, "see if she fucks such a short, ugly troll of a man, maybe you the common, creepy WWE stalker fan might even have a shot one day too"?

This has probably been talked about before but as someone relatively new to puro the one thing i always heard from wrestlers when talking about Japanese crowds was how quiet they are, that they are more respectful and don't make as much noise but in watching alot of NJ over the last 18 months and catching up with the All Japan 80s set and 90s stuff some of the loudest crowds i have ever heard are Japanese,so why do a lot of wrestlers say this.

This is a question for KrisZ or anyone else who might know.

I've been looking through a lot of early 80s Georgia listings recently and there's something I don't get: Ted DiBiase, Mr. Wrestling II and several other guys all seem like they were working Georgia at the same time as they were working Mid-South.

Looking at just Ted's schedule from 80-84, it was so brutal that I questioned the accuracy of the results. In November 83 he's meant to have worked vs. Fuchi in Tokyo (AJPW), Tommy Rich at The Omni (GCW), Harley Race in for the title Kansas (St. Louis? / Central States) and then Duggan in Houston (Mid-South) in the space of a week.

That date in 1984 where he faces Magnum TA twice on the same day (5/27/84), once in OKC and once in Tulsa is followed by a date for SECW in Birmingham, AL vs. Bob Armstrong. He's working GCW dates that same week.

I am trying to get a picture of how Georgia worked as a territory because other guys who were working MidSouth (JYD, Wrestlng II) are on these cards as well as guys like The Freebirds (who were in Texas?) and Ken Patera (Mid-Atlantic?).

DiBiase though looks like he worked GCW and MidSouth about 50/50 all through the early 80s, while still doing St. Louis shows every month and working All Japan tours when they came up. Are these results right? Some of them don't look humanly possible.

Can you shed any light on this Kris?

Guys did this all the time.....GCW was a weekend trip for most of your big names and the regulars would tour outside because of their exposure on WTBS.

Thanks Kris, just a couple more questions:

1. How did this work in practice? A guy like Bill Watts, for example, would he be happy to let his guys do GCW on the weekend because it gave them national exposure? And if so, were there not some complications? For example, what if he wants to keep Wrestling II strong for an angle and on GCW they job him out? Could see some potential conflict arising with the booking.

2. Did this mean that Georgia's "roster" was essentially a "who's who" of the top stars cherry picked from around the territories? Were there any guys who exclusively worked GCW?

Cheers. This is the sort of thing you can't find out on Wikipedia.

It's because of a lot of those workers didn't get over in Japan.

The talk of debuting young and a comment by Meltzer about comparing HHH & ReyJr injuries made me slap together this page: https://sites.google.com/site/chrisharringt...f_1963_2012_age

A few hundred guys - how many WWF matches they had by age -- WWF/WWE 1963-2012 (though mostly 1980s/1990s/2000s)

I think we are supposed to think that Brie is the "weird" one. I would agree about them making people think Nikki was hotter but they did do the "Nikki thinks she's too fat" storyline. Analyzing all this stuff is really depressing
