Beat me to it be five minutes. He is doing a whole wrestling album which is pretty awesome. This has to be the only indie rock song to name drop Al Madrill

Just coming here to post this too. Big Mountain Goats fan so this should be good. More on the album here: http://pitchfork.com/news/58158-mountain-goats-announce-pro-wrestling-themed-lp-beat-the-champ-share-the-legend-of-chavo-guerrero/

Thinking about old school themes apart from JYD, Piper, Uncle Elmer, Slaughter, Hogan, Windham/Rotunda & Orndorff did anyone else get theme music during the mid 80s?

Trying to come up with a list on who got music before 1987.

The Machines, Wendi Richter, The British Bulldogs, Ricky Steamboat

Have to doublecheck, but I believe Demolition had music from their debut, which was January 1987.

Savage, of course. Strictly speaking Koko B. Ware and Honky Tonk Man debuted in the latter half of '86.

When did Hogan change his theme from Eye of the Tiger to the Rock n Wrestling theme? I gather he had this as his theme as it was featured on the first Album.

I know Real American played at Mania 2 so there must have been a change somewhere.

There was actually a different song in between Eye of the Tiger and Real American so bad it has to be heard to be believed.

The Rock'n'Wrestling cartoon theme. It was mentioned right in the post above yours. Real American was originally for Windham and Rotunda, but they didn't last long with it.

Kamala also had his jungle music in 1986 if that counts.

Anyone interested in music about dead wrestlers, can check out the lo-fi, homemade album I made 5 years ago under the name Double Murder Suicide. Here's a review of the first album (there are also three more I made from 10' through 2012):

Here's a review of the first one -

PM me if you're interested in links to free downloads of any of the albums. I'd describe it as Ramones meets Guided By Voices meets early They Might Be Giants if every song was about wrestling nostalgia and tragedy. Labors of love that I'm proud of, even if they were probably heard by less than a 100 people around the world.

Just tuned into Cham Wrestling from first week of sept 85 and Randy finally has his music. Hopefully Bulldogs get theirs soon.

I went through a old house show from 85 and Hogan has his cartoon theme from the Boston october show when he wrestled Bundy so I presume the change happened then.

Did Windham/Rotunda have the theme on any TV taping that may have been televised?

Quick, not very important question I have wondered about:

1. Why were the mags in the 80's and 90's so far ahead in terms issue dates if they came out monthly? For example, Sting winning the NWA title (July of 1990) is in the Nov 1990 issue, which I assume came out in August timeframe? Always been curious why they didnt keep the dates closer. maybe a month ahead (Sting win for the Aug or Sept issue)...

My favorite songwriter is releasing an album entirely about my favorite thing!

Pre-ordered the deluxe vinyl yesterday!

Ordering tickets to see them in April tomorrow!

The album drops on the week of my birthday!

This all has me quite excited.

In the UK I remember picking up a July 1990 issue of Wrestling Eye when it was clearly only April 90.

That's October 12th 1985 isnt it?

In the US at least, the cover date of a monthly magazine doesn't usually refer to when it comes out, or the period it's meant to cover. Instead it's the last date newsstands are meant to take any remaining copies off the shelves.

The idea is that it makes life simpler for staff because they can just take off anything that's hit its cover date without having to worry about checking its publication schedule.

What happened to the magazines? One minute you saw Wrestling Eye, PWI, Inside Wrestling, Wrestling Superstars, New Wave Wrestling and aload of other mags and I think around 96 time none of them got stocked apart from PWI. The internet was in its infant stage in the UK so it couldnt be the case of the Net killed all the mags.

Used to enjoy reading those mags as they showed me stuff I didnt know like Crush in PNW, The Larry Winters/DC Drake scissors match & New Wave did even give a complete list of every Hulk Hogan match while he was champion during his original run.

The instrumental version of "Ravishing" by Bonnie Tyler, an absolutely awesome theme I've always loved! Underrated, while of course Real American would be one of the all time great themes.

When I was a kid reading PWI, some kid at school saw the date was two months from then and assumed that it was proof of wrestling being fake because I was reading about things that hadn't happened yet. So, I had to flip to the ratings page and show the "for period ended" date, which showed what time frame it was actually covering.

I ended up tending my wrestlemania 5 tape to a few people who had never seen the american stuff. Time I got it back I think a few people had borrowed.

Another thing re: magazine dates is these publishers didn't have the largest production budgets or circulation, or huge staffs. They weren't like Time/SI/People that published weekly and practically gave themselves away for free in order to drive up circulation rates and ad revenue. Think about the advertising in those wrestling magazines.....creepy apartment wrestling and tape ads from promotions themselves. There was better advertising in comic books and porno mags.

Does anyone know where "patient zero" for this Marc Mero motivational video going viral is? When it went viral at first earlier in the week I just kind of brushed it off, but today I saw it get posted on Facebook by my aunt and an older cousin, and I know damn well those two haven't heard of any other wrestlers besides Hulk Hogan. Just curious how this thing spread beyond minor curiosity to being posted by soccer moms all over social media.

It's a shame that Marc Mero is on the outs with WWE, both parties could be served well to capitalize by WWE handing over the "Be A Star" campaign to Mero, making him the face of it, and running with it.

Mero has been doing the motivational speaking thing for a while in the Orlando area (he regularly appears on a morning radio show I still listen to despite not living there anymore), so this is just one of those things that are truly viral in the sense that people liked it, and it spread.
