Cornette's racket
Watching the 8-21-82 episode of WCCW. There's a Bundy/Race match that's fairly interesting. I really enjoy watching young Bundy work and Race just beats the shit out of him. EDIT: Fuck yeah, this match rules. Bundy with hair is very strange when I've always known him bald. PhilTLL
Is there any footage of the Flair/Von Erich match from the 8/15/82 Star Wars show? 2/3 falls, over 30:00 long? Second Flair DVD set, 2008 "Definitive Collection". There it's labeled 8/24/82 (TV airdate?), but surprise surprise, there weren't two Flair/Kerry matches drawing 18,000 at Reunion Arena in the span of 9 days. PhilTLL
Oh definitely. But you don't have to take my word for it; finished #3 in the WCCW '80s poll.
Ricky Jackson
Yeah it's an all-time classic NWA title match
sek69
I'm thinking we're going to benefit from WWE's cost cutting as it seems they are ramping up the classic content being added the more they cut back on original programming. If they want to keep raising the number in their "now has X hours of programming on demand!" brag, classic content dumps are going to be the fastest way to do that. JRH
Getting back to the WCCW ownership thing, I've now heard that they DO own the rights to WCCW from 88-89. Maybe we'll actually get to see the entire run after all (if anything, having the rookie year of Austin and some of Foley's earliest work could possibly interest some curious fans). iamthedoctor
Nothing exciting in Hidden Gems 3 unfortunately. Why won't they just give us Randy Savage vs Undertaker? Its obvious they have the match in good quality due to that clip several years ago but just havent released it. Its not on the Unreleased DVD so why tease us if they don't plan to share it? I'm not sure how they wouldn't own 88-89 considering they've already put stuff from 90-91 USWA Texas on there which says they own the Jarrett era stuff. It's just that nobody knows when/how they got that, the USWA Dallas/USWA Challenge stuff, and the GWF stuff. There was no announcement, nothing singled out in investor reports or SEC filings, etc. It just showed up.
flyonthewall2983
Either it wasn't in as bad a shape as we heard or WWE's digital team are wizards. Probably the former. When it comes to VHS there's not really a whole lot upgrading you can do, as opposed to film. Definitely not VHS. What format then?
sek69
So Disney announced they are buying BAMTech (they previously had a 33% share) and will be launching their own OTT app for all things Disney and ESPN to the point they announce all their movies will be leaving Netflix by 2019. I wonder if this will have any effect on WWE since the network runs off this platform as well.
Johnny Sorrow
Watching WCCW Star Wars 85, and they were trying so hard to get Mike Von Erich over that he not only beats Jake with the claw out of nowhere, Jake blades so when Mike wins, he's holding up his own bloody hand to the crowd. It's both bonkers and fucking awesome.
PhilTLL
Definitely not VHS. What format then? The dominant pro videotape standards at the time were 1-inch "Type C" and 2-inch "quad" (quadruplex).
Matt D
Great match which Michaels totally misunderstood. How do you mean? https://books.google.com/books?id=whe0idKbGXMC&pg=PA136&dq=shawn+michaels+demolition&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwippqOZ0MzVAhVGSiYKHRfpCJsQ6AEIKDAA#v=onepage&q=shawn%20michaels%20demolition&f=false The idea that they didn't give for the Rockers in that match is crazy. Heels giving too much (unearned especially) for babyfaces was the biggest problem of the 80s WWF tag team style. Demolition (Ax especially) made their opponents earn it (not unlike how Hansen is lauded for doing the same thing) but if they earned it, they sold and it mattered. Rockers came out of that match looking better than if Eadie worked it 50-50 with them. Moreover, pecking order DOES matter. Through being careful with their selling (including reacting) against the Rockers (or Rogs or Bees), when they have a match like they do at Summerslam 1988 with the Hart Foundation and suddenly put them over way bigger, even begging off from Bret, it makes them, who the Fed was pushing way harder, look like huger stars because there's built up expectations from the fans. It's just a totally backwards view of what matters and an egotistical one of how that match should have work, ironic in that he frames it as the complete opposite. Not every "great match" looks the same.
southofheavy
Watching the 11/1/86 Boston Garden show and holy crap, Judy Martin just busted out a powerbomb. That was awesome. Leilani Kai kicks ass, too. Gonna hafta track down more matches of theirs.
TonyPulis'Cap
Watched some of the Table for 3's they've recently put up, and if I had to recommend one, then it would be the Nation of Domination reunion with Ron Simmons, Mark Henry and The Godfather. Unlike some of the trios they put together where it feels a bit forced, these guys clearly are great friends and it's a really enjoyable watch. Will try not to spoil it as well, but there's a fantastic moment involving gifts that harks back to a classic RAW moment from 1998 - great follow up gag 19(!) years in the making. There is a good amount of Jumping Bomb Angels vs Glamour Girls matches, that were on par or above anything else going on the WWF in the 80s. It follows Stacey's diva logic to a degree (just, you know, far more balanced). She didn't have a ton of opportunity to have traditionally great matches, but you can see just how good she was by watching her work.
