JerryvonKramer Posted January 6, 2014 Report Posted January 6, 2014 I said it before but I find Bill Watts's insane right-wing uber-capitalist Christian ranting much more entertaining (it's almost hypnotic!) than Corny's political stuff. A lot of Cornette's stuff is basically too specific to the US for me to care about anyway. I like Corny's old-man anti-modern WWE rants though, even if they are a bit out of date. Quote
rovert Posted January 16, 2014 Report Posted January 16, 2014 Bill Dundee this week. Rare to hear Bill being interviewed by a contemporary. Quote

goodhelmet Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 I thought this was great. I generally dread Bill Dundee interviews but he was more open and upbeat. When you take away Alice and MSL, Cornette is still better to listen to than just about anybody. Quote
CFTV Posted January 18, 2014 Report Posted January 18, 2014 I thought this was great. I generally dread Bill Dundee interviews but he was more open and upbeat. When you take away Alice and MSL, Cornette is still better to listen to than just about anybody. Jimmy doesn't need a co-host. Both MSL and Alice take away from the Jim Cornette experience. What is Alice history? I heard her on another MLW podcast within the last 6 months or so. Quote
Zero Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 Just listening to this latest pod, I could go the rest of my life and never listen to Cornette talk about politics, and it'd be too soon. Quote
jpchicago23 Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 Just listening to this latest pod, I could go the rest of my life and never listen to Cornette talk about politics, and it'd be too soon. He even talks about it in the Bobby Fulton episode? Damn I was hoping he would drop that shit in that one Quote
goodhelmet Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 He starts off the show on a rant but it doesn't bleed into the actual interview. Quote
WingedEagle Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 Just listening to this latest pod, I could go the rest of my life and never listen to Cornette talk about politics, and it'd be too soon. Yeah, its unfortunate but I just can't listen to the show anymore. MLW and Bauer & Pollack are more than enough. Quote
Zoo Enthusiast Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 Once I see the words "Court Bauer", I'm already well past more the more than enough point. Quote
ajtroma Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 Considering Corny shares the same political views that I do, I enjoy it. Enjoy them more than any conversation with that slimy, carny reprobate Bill Dundee any goddamned day. Quote
WingedEagle Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 Once I see the words "Court Bauer", I'm already well past more the more than enough point. I meant more than enough content to pass the time. I actually enjoy Bauer. He keeps the shows from meandering too much. Quote

El-P Posted February 13, 2014 Report Posted February 13, 2014 This week's edition's got Don Callis. Now there's an interesting guy who hasn't done a whole lot of interviews. Quote
cheapshot Posted February 13, 2014 Report Posted February 13, 2014 Always liked Callis, he always comes across well. Should be a fun interview. Quote
WrestlingPower Posted February 14, 2014 Report Posted February 14, 2014 The Christianity rant really was offputting this week. I guess I've never heard someone so zealously argue that Noah's Ark didn't exist and that the whole Bible is a work of fiction. I mean I knew there were people that believe that but I've never been exposed to someone so passionate about arguing it and thinking anyone who believes it is a complete moron & trying to force their views on others. I don't know what Jim & Alice's views on how they think the Earth got created, etc. is but any other explanation is MUCH more preposterous and astronimically impossible than the truth they perceive to be so preposterous. Someone needs to send them "The Case for Christ" to get their minds really going although I fear how much the show would devolve if they started digging in further. Quote
Loss Posted February 14, 2014 Report Posted February 14, 2014 I realize Cornette is the one who opened the can of worms on this topic and I respect you putting your opinion out there, but we should probably refrain from discussing the merits of Cornette's religious and political opinions in this thread just to keep this conversation from going somewhere that has nothing to do with pro wrestling. Hope everyone understands. Quote
goodhelmet Posted February 15, 2014 Report Posted February 15, 2014 I agree with Loss. You can absolutely shit on the idea that Cornette is using his show as a pulpit for his religious and political beliefs. What we don't want is this thread devolving into arguments about his political and religious beliefs. With all that said, I enjoyed his discussion with Cyrus. I had no idea he had a rep as a good worker. EDIT: Also, don't respond to Tim's points about the merit of his argument. I will delete your post and you will be wasting your time. Quote
Bix Posted February 15, 2014 Report Posted February 15, 2014 Callis was really good in the ring in Winnipeg on Tony Condello's shows. Definitely could have done more if used right. Quote
jpchicago23 Posted February 15, 2014 Report Posted February 15, 2014 I tried seeking out one of the cage matches vs Martel and had no luck. Sounded awesome Quote
WrestlingPower Posted February 19, 2014 Report Posted February 19, 2014 Anyone subscribing to the MLW-VIP? Wondering how long the drive-by shows usually are. Quote
pantherwagner Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 The ones I have listened to are 30-40 minutes so they are perfect to listen to during a commute to work. Alice is a terrible host in general but she's a terrible fit for this one. She knows little about wrestling in general and pretty much nothing about pre-Attitude era stuff so she is there to read questions and not much more. Then again I'm not sure MSL would be better since he'd somehow find a way to make the show about him. IMO Cornette would benefit from having somebody to bounce ideas back and forth with. The shows themselves are fun but after a few Cornette shows you end up with a lot of redundancy in his rants. Quote
jpchicago23 Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 Yea Alice is terrible and tries way too hard to sound sexy and its kills what Cornette could really be. At least MSL has inside knowledge of the business Quote
goodhelmet Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 This is actually the problem with the entire MLW podcast system as a whole with Cornette in the mix. There isn't one person there (Bauer, Alice, MSL, Konnan) that can hang with Cornette when it comes to wrestling history. I enjoy the Konnan show because Konnan cracks me up and I love hearing inside dirt on WCW and TNA. I enjoy Cornette interviewing guys like Jim Ross and Bill Dundee because they go places that Ross and Dundee would never go if they weren't talking to Cornette. I like the shows where they talk to the WWE writers the same way i enjoyed Dave Lagana's old podcast because it gives you insight into the inner-workings of the WWE machine. Quote
WrestlingPower Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 Yeah, who is Alice & where did she come from? I'm not sure why a site like that needs a "personality" with little to no wrestling connection. I really like the Bauer & Pollock show especially since I let my Observer sub lapse so it's my only source of intelligent discussion on current events. And Bauer's insider knowledge is MUCH better than anything Alvarez would have to offer anyway. I've really grown tired of MSL and I will only listen to the Konnan shows if there's a guest that interests me although Konnan needs to not interrupt so much. He cut Samoa Joe off several times on stuff I was hoping to hear the answer to. Quote
