Wasn't Dasha ring announcing Collision?

Yep. Don't get that one at all, totally out of nowhere.

Anthony Henry is the worse though. Got a broken jaw against another AEW contracted worker on an indy show and now gets cut ?

Big time fail on those ones.

Curious to hear more on these. Definitely breaks with AEW's past, although it's possible this is just a rash of contracts not being renewed, or people asking out? (Although the surprise from Henry definitely contradicts that.)

Per PWInsider, more cuts are coming.

The issue here is timing. Like, we all know that the roster is super bloated as it is and that the professional wrestling business is rough, but then CM Punk does an interview which got people talking and affected public perception, and there were reports that he might give MATT HARDY a new contract, and then there were future endeavors.

People are also digging some older TK quotes about how "he's not going to take it out on employees even when punched in the face by circumstances", and well... he can't have it both ways.

Agreed.

Although you can also look at it in another way in term of timing, is that everybody is looking at WWE anyway because it's Mania week, and arguably (not even arguably, really) the biggest Mania ever, so it's gonna be forgotten in two days anyway (which would makes it quite a bit cynical).

Still. Context surely has changed, and releasing people is nothing new in pro-wrestling, and it's way far from what WWE did during the pandemic, during which AEW held it together for so many people. But it's a clear sign that the company has changed. Nothing new. But it's yet another occurence of "Oh, it's just another pro-wrestling promotion".

I think it's more a matter of some of the new office hires convincing Tony that perhaps it's time to trim the fat a little. Not releasing anyone was fine during the pandemic when people really didn't have any options, but it really wasn't sustainable long term.

Slim J's post-release tweets are especially disheartening, particularly when he says he was hoping having a contract would enable him to be able to look after his family better, but instead he was working a second job to pay the bills. It also suggests he was working for a pittance, so it's not even like this will help the AEW bottom line that much.

That's not so surprising. He only worked a bunch of times on Dark and then on ROH. He was more around at the short time they did the terrible Thrustbuster thingy (with Boudreaux, talk about a winning proposition), but he was never really a regular.

There's this notion that because you're on TV, you have to make a shit tons of money, but really only a handful of big stars are. The discrepancies between the top dogs (pun intended) and the guys at the bottom of the card are kinda ridiculous, really. And if you consider WWE and the obscene money they are making, even the top dogs are basically underpaid. I remember the French referee working at NXT UK told that she never earned *less* in her entre life, ponder that for a second.

And then you have Mr. Workers Right who is talking about how workers should be paid on the house (yeah, sure, now that he's an established big-ass star and the company brand is the draw anyway, what a fucking clown). There's only one way, and it is known : unionize. Won't happen, but this is the only way stuff like a guy getting his jaw broken working against another company contracted guy and getting cut a few weeks later won't be tolerated.

When anyone tries to take advantage of having a moral high ground, they will be judged more harshly when they finally compromise.

Yup. No one expects anything decent out of WWE. Which, ironically enough, actually benefits WWE, because it doesn't matter what they do or what you learn, it's a given it's always been a shitshow, as Ronda Rousey has been saying. AEW was perceived very differently for a while. With high expectations come high responsibilities, or something...

He's going after top new talents. Not the Parker Boudreaux or the Jora Jolh's of the world, which weren't used at all anyways.

His explanation for the Boys is that they did not show up at several shows.

Still, Dasha. :(

Actually, both Boys have refuted the reason Tony Khan gave for releasing them. Should be interesting to see their version of the story.

Oh wow, that's bizarre. It's pretty evident only the lowest common denominator on Twitter continues to really care about that incident, so I'll be surprised if it pops a rating. Bucks matches and segments have been dying a death for more than a year now.

Feels like they are validating Punk too. Cattering to a small/loud portiom of the fan base that can't get past AEW vs WWE stan wars.

This definitely reeks of Bischoff challenging Vince to a street fight on PPV. Was that in 98' or 99'? I won't bother looking it up as it wouldn't have mattered if he'd done it in 97' or 2000 or 94' - it was a bad idea and only drew attention to how much the people in charge were obsessed with "the competition." Plus, you don't get a single match out of it. There's no potential payoff.

Or, for that matter, when JR promised to bring back Razor and Diesel (not putting the blame on JR either, it was obviously a Vince idea) which was equally lame and a terrible idea that had no chance of leading to any sort of payoff anyway.

Just a horrendous, horrendous decision that I predict will have minimal positive impact on a rating while further giving AEW haters something to dunk on.

As insane as this sounds, this would only be a good idea if it leads to Jack Boy Jungle Perry making his return and cutting the Bucks off right before the footage gets to the spicy parts.

Other than that, what the fuck are they thinking? CM Punk was talking about that incident on Ariel Helwani's podcast, not on the main TV product.
