The Man in Blak Posted July 19, 2014 Report Posted July 19, 2014 Three minutes into part one of the Russo interview and he's already talking about how hard it is to get wrestlers with a strong "southern" accent over. No wonder Cornette dreams about murdering this guy. EDIT: And yeah, the "Gund Arena" incident where Austin vetoed a program was related to Jeff Jarrett. If I remember right, the story was that Austin had already refused to work with him for supsected personal reasons (Jarrett called out Austin 3:16 as a shoot in his first promo upon his return to the WWF, bad history with payoffs in USWA) and, despite that, they had scripted a sequence where Austin was going to run-in on Jarrett during some sketch with Ben Stiller and give Jarrett a stunner. Austin knew that doing that would plant the seeds for a match with Jarrett, so he vetoed it (with an extra dose of foul language for WWE Creative in the process). Quote
Lust Hogan Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 Austin's show today is with Ken Shamrock. This is part 1 and it's good if you want Shamrock's background but they didn't get into wrestling or MMA much. That will be part 2. This one can be skipped. Quote
jpchicago23 Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 The episode with shamrock was pretty powerful. It hit home with me since my dad pretty much grew up that way as a foster kid and in and out of gangs/jail. Austin is so good at keeping the flow going too. Quote
Lust Hogan Posted July 29, 2014 Report Posted July 29, 2014 Part 2 of Shamrock was posted today. This was pretty much all about MMA with a little bit of wrestling but is a great interview. Ken Shamrock alluded to some issue in Pancrease with "the Japanese guys" and Minoru Suzuki that didn't seem right. Does anyone know what he's talking about? Quote
soup23 Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 Nice nugget in the latest interview with Ricky Morton where he talks about Doug Dillinger being a police officer in Charlotte and getting a retirement from there before he started full time in WCW. Only have about 20 minutes left, but I have enjoyed the Morton interview overall. Quote
jpchicago23 Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 I think the Morton interview was one of the best. I love how Austin lets guys reminisce and just steers guys along. Solid listen Quote
WrestlingPower Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 Did Morton offer anything new other than his usual stuff of "we sold out everywhere we went"? Quote
soup23 Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 He did a bit. I thought he towed the line well between being someone that you can tell thought it was better in the "good ol days" and not giving any value to the talent of today. I thought his opinions about working indies today were pretty astute and he mixes in some interesting stories here and there. Quote
kev72 Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 I went to look for the Ken Shamrock Interview and I can't seem to find it? Did he take it down? Thanks kevin Quote
Matt D Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 I wish that Ricky Morton was a poster here. He'd enjoy himself. But then so would Austin. Quote
goodhelmet Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 I don't think so. The minute somebody like jdw listed all the reasons Brody sucked, they would hate this place. Having said that, I loved the interview with Morton. He is somebody who really needs their own podcast. I had a phone conversation with him about 7-8 years ago and the guy is entertaining in conversation. Quote
shoe Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 I popped big when Ricky flipped Austin's phrase and made it his own. Quote
JerryvonKramer Posted August 8, 2014 Report Posted August 8, 2014 I find it impossible not to love Ricky Morton. He always comes across as a very sincere guy who has given his life for the business, and despite being screwed over multiple times, he seems like he's come to the point where he isn't that completely bitter fuck that he could be. He gave some great insights into in-ring psychology here and it was cool when he was comparing Ole to Arn and Tully, and when they were discussing calling it in the ring. Fantastic interview. Quote
Sidebottom Posted August 9, 2014 Report Posted August 9, 2014 The only thing I didn't like about Morton was his blatant jealousy of Kevin Nash. He really had the blinkers on for that one. Quote
Loss Posted August 9, 2014 Report Posted August 9, 2014 He was fine with Nash until it was pointed out to him that Nash criticized him for his comments on ESPN's Outside The Lines in 1999. Quote
Cross Face Chicken Wing Posted August 20, 2014 Report Posted August 20, 2014 Austin's podcast with Kamala was outstanding. However, I'm biased because Kamala is a personal favorite and the greatest gimmick in the history of wrestling. Quote
BigBadMick Posted August 26, 2014 Report Posted August 26, 2014 Not on Austin's show but since it was his opinion I thought I'd comment here. He was on Keller's show last week. Keller brought up WWE wrestlers being unhappy with the uncertainty of PPV pay even now, in September. Austin talked around it a bit, coming off as a WWE apologist (something I'd never have accused him of before) and basically suggested that if the guys need to take a cut now to cover set up costs on new technology, so be it. He also mentioned wrestlers covering bodybuilder salaries for the WBF in the early 90s without coming down negatively on it. Found this flabbergasting considering the number of blow ups he had with management on lesser issues over the years. Quote
Lust Hogan Posted August 26, 2014 Report Posted August 26, 2014 Jim Ross was on today. Outside of the time limit rant he normally goes on this was pretty fun. Austin knows how to move things forward. Tony Schiavone will be on The Ross Report tomorrow. Quote
Matt D Posted August 26, 2014 Report Posted August 26, 2014 I saw that Ross was on Austin today and decided to listen to the Piper podcast with Samoa(n) Joe instead. I was thinking of turning NPR on actually. Quote
Lust Hogan Posted August 26, 2014 Report Posted August 26, 2014 Yeah, it was nothing groundbreaking but I enjoy Jim Ross being interviewed by Austin. Quote
rovert Posted October 15, 2014 Report Posted October 15, 2014 Austin's Unleashed Show this week is going to be commentary synced up to his Wrestlemania 17 match against the Rock. Really liked the track Austin and Jim Ross did for that on Austin's last DVD set. The whole timing/rhythmic quality of that match being explained was really interesting. Quote
Zoo Enthusiast Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 Awesome. Been a drop-off lately. Quote
WingedEagle Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 Just wanted to provide another rec for the director's cut podcast of Austin/Rock at Mania 17, or whatever you may call it. Insightful, fun and a completely refreshing take on a match that I imagine most folks here have already seen, if not multiple times. I listened to it on the elliptical and tried to also read the paper as I normally do. The paper had to wait until I got back upstairs. Definitely worth checking out. Quote
TRMD Posted October 20, 2014 Report Posted October 20, 2014 Huh, so there IS a thread for this. Yeah, this episode is great. It's absurd how excited he gets watching something that he not only participated in, but has said he's watched numerous times before the actual podcast. Also, I love the little shots he throws at Rock for throwing shitty elbows and doing a bad blade job. Quote
MoS Posted October 20, 2014 Report Posted October 20, 2014 I don't think he took any little jabs at Rock at all. He just said they had to be careful with the blade job because Rock was going away to film a movie. Quote
